Just enjoyed our first visit to the Forest of Dean staying in a charming village of Staunton, the cottage we stopped in was called the Coach house, spotlessly clean, everything maintained to perfection. The location is perfect for a very peaceful stay with a cracking pub in easy walking distance (the food is brill at the White Horse) The owners make every thing so easy and the attention to detail is remarkable (even key tags and instruction to every appliance), I have a passion for woodwork and the handmade hardwood doors are a joy to behold (even the latches are made of hardwood!)......great holiday lodge Martin and Jan
An outstanding let. The Coach House is equipped to the highest of standards. Ideally placed for exploring the delights of the neighbouring countryside. We had no hesitation in booking for another break.
I could not believe my luck that the coach house was available. It was the perfect base for a weekend of mountain biking with a group of old friends. The cottage was incredibly clean, well maintained and had everything needed to make our weekend a success. It will always be my first choice in the forest of dean. Full marks to owner, Ed who was very helpful.
Wow... what a cottage to stay in.. the owners have gone above and beyond to make this cottage amazing with great decor, beautiful furniture and well equipped and just very tasteful! The home is cosy, warm and wonderful.
Communication with the owners was brilliant and I have rebooked for March and April weekends.
Thank you Ed for all your hard work in making this weekend special and relaxing.
We've had self catering holidays for nearly 40 years, and this tops them all. A wonderful, fully equipped cottage in a prime location for enjoying the Forest of Dean. All "mod cons" were provided, along with guides and maps to help enjoy the surrounds. Spotlessly clean, and a "welcome pack" along with all the things that you tend to forget but need meant we didn't have to do a shop on arrival as is sometimes the case. Heating and first supply for the superb wood burner were also provided - along with meticulously clear instructions that ensured it lit successfully!
We'd definitely go back again when we can, absolutely top drawer!
I stayed at the Coach House over a weekend in January with my young family. I was already familiar with the area, having camped down the road at the Bracelands campsite, but wanted to explore it with the family and the Coach House was an excellent base to do this from.
The Cottage is lovely, beautifully decorated, and comfortably laid out, the spacious rooms have everything you could hope for.
Downstairs the kitchen-dinner is spacious, with a nice large dining table to enjoy family meals, the kitchen is well stocked with equipment as well as the necessary cooking and eating utensils (helpfully there is a full inventory listed on the website, so you know what they have so you know what to leave behind.)
The living room, is great, replete with a comfy sofa, an arm chair, Smart TV with DVD player and Apps for iPlayer and Netflix etc, with patio door out to the garden. Perhaps I should say the internet speed is not super fast, so bear this in mind if planning on downloading movies to watch in the evening, but that is such a small thing it really shouldn’t be a reason to be put off from staying here.
Upstairs is just as nice, very large double bedroom, with more wardrobe space than I have at home, a comfy bed and view out of the window across the rolling countryside of the Wye Valley. The 2nd bedroom has 2 single beds, plus a travel cot ready for use for little ones.
Located in Staunton, the Coach House enables easy access to explore the beautiful countryside, which you can explore from right out of the door, with a track down into the FC woods, which (for the fit) would allow you to walk all the way to the Peregrine Falcons at the Rock, or down to the river for the Biblins Bridge or a pint at the Saracen’s Head. Though if it’s a pint you are after you needn’t walk so far, the village pub, the White Horse Inn offers a warm welcome to families offering delicious food, so worth a visit.
You may have guessed, I am a fan, and hope to return for a weekend in the spring or summer.
We were fortunate to be able to arrive on Christmas Day, and it was wonderful to come into a toasty warm cottage with lovely welcome gifts of wine (and champagne in the fridge!), chocolates and biscuits. The cottage was very well equipped and the decor and furnishings all looked very fresh and new. The pre-arrival equipment list was very useful as we could better judge what to bring. The location was perfect, with walks straight from the house. in fact we didn't use the car for the three nights we were there. Lovely stay, thank you Ed!
