Tairoa Lodge & Cottage
Ranked #1 of 4 Hawera B&B and Inns
Reviewed 17 April 2012

A little bit of a challenge to find on the way into Hawera, and an adventurous little drive into the parking area, but a very warm and friendly welcome awaited.
A beautifully (if slightly over) restored build with nice gardens. Excellent indulgent service, with tea on arrival served in the lounge with all the trimming. Breakfast was everything you could every want, served with style.
If you have to stay in Hawera - treat yourself:-)
$180 for a twin room with full breakfast seemed reasonable to me, but my travelling companion thought a bit overpriced by NZ standards.

Room Tip: There are only three to choose from :-)

I really enjoyed my stay at Tairoa Lodge. The best part about the stay was the wonderfully warm and inviting hosts! I was travelling on my own so Linda kindly invited me for cocktails to meet her friends. The home and the surrounding area is carefully and tastefully restored. Breakfast in the morning was delicious. I highly recommend this lodge as a destination for anyone travelling through the area... it is very comfortable, welcoming and peaceful.

Whilst travelling throughout NZ for the rugby world cup we had the pleasure of staying at the Tairoa Lodge which is a beautiful house surrounded by well maintained gardens.
Whilst the accommodation was not that close to the game in New Plymouth we could not fault Linda's hostessing skills.
Linda attended to all our needs and provided a delicious breakfast.
We would highly recommend the accommodation and the local museum which is a must!

We only chose Tairoa because it was one of few places still available within driving distance of New Plymouth during the 2011 RWC. We had tickets to the USA vs. Russia match, so we had hoped to find something a bit closer to Stadium Taranaki.

While the drive from Hawera to New Plymouth was not convenient to our purposes at the time, the selection of Tairoa turned out to be a very good thing. The lodge itself was charming, and the secluded grounds seemed perfect for a relaxing afternoon stroll.

Linda was an excellent hostess, and provided for all our needs, including a quick afternoon tea on the day we arrived. Breakfast the next morning was delicious and very well presented.

Tairoa is better suited for a romantic getaway than a rugby road trip, but it worked for us. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who’s looking for a peaceful weekend escape in a quaint country setting.

Such a gorgeous place, and Linda is a fantastic hostess and amazing cook. We were lucky enough to get a decent snowfall during our stay which made it pretty magical.
