We have just returned from a stay at the Rothesay Hotel for 2 nights over Christmas, 24th and 25th Dec. I had booked 4 double rooms, 3 doubles on the ground floor outside garden area and 1 double no. 10 inside the house. Upon arrival we were shown to our rooms, my daughter's room (10) four poster, was nice but she did have a problem with the shower, no hot water at one time. My husband and myself, my son and my youngest daughter had the 3 garden rooms, outside, accessed from side entrance. The rooms were ok but in need of updating as the ensuites had damp appearing on ceilings and around showers. Our room was the four poster which felt cold even though there were 2 storage heaters which you could adjust, also the lighting was very dim, the whole room felt gloomy and I did not like the feeling of being 'outside' and separated from the main house. We spoke to Lynn the owner and asked if we could change our room, she offered us an upgrade to a suite for an extra £10 per night. Even though we had to pay extra, we changed rooms immediately and although the suite had to be accessed from outside the main house again, it was warmer, larger and had recently been updated, nice ensuite, lovely shower. Having paid £80 and £90 for the other rooms, I felt they should have been this standard also. I was not keen on having to constantly access bedrooms from the outside of the building to get to the main Reception and the Dining room, I would have liked all rooms in the main house. My daughter and her partner tried sitting in the lounge one evening but found there was no heating on and it was just too cold, so they came into our room instead. On the plus side, the breakfasts were lovely, very well cooked and presented and lovely and hot, plenty of tea and coffee. Lynn and her husband were very friendly and accommodating and overall we all enjoyed our stay with them, just felt certain areas were not up to scratch.

We spent a couple of nights at the Rothesay and were extremely pleased with our choice.
You are made to feel at home upon arrival - Michael and Lynn (the owners) are a great couple who went out of their way to welcome and assist us in exploring an area we had not visited before.
Our room was very clean & comfortable and the breakfast is absolutely fabulous (from a fussy eater!)
Will definitely visit again.

We stayed at The Rothesay for a wedding up at Highcliffe Castle. We couldn't fault our stay here. The rooms are modern with a nice country feel to them, beds are really comfortable. The breakfast was lovely with Lynn cooking what you like - we were stuffed both mornings. The location was perfect for us as well as it is really close to the castle. There are plenty of things to do in the area as well, with lots of places to eat. We went to the Cliffhanger the 1st night we were there, which was lovely.

If I was to have one moan about the B&B, it would be the 10.30am checkout. This would not normally be a problem, but we had quite a bit of bubbly the night before! Self inflicted I know, but a 12pm checkout would have been perfect!

All in all, we had a lovely stay and would definately recommend it.

What a great B&B. Lovely welome from Michael and Lynn who go out of their way to make your stay comfortable and relaxing. What a bonus having the swimming pool to help work off that amazing breakfast. Would definitely recommend.

The owners were very welcoming on arrival and throughout our stay. its walking distance to the beach and pubs/restaurants and a short drive to the new forest. However the first night we were put in the highcliffe room and the mattress springs had gone on either side leaving a hugh lump in the middle. We had to turn the mattress over to make it even bearable to sleep on, needless to say it wasn't a very fitful nights sleep. We complained but as they were full had to be moved the next day. To add insult to injury we were charged full price for the first nights stay. The room price of £90 for four poster bed and ensuite (which was tiny with only room for one person at a time) was expensive for what it was. Needless to say you can make your own mind up but I won't be going back there!!

Not amazing but very nice and in a lovely spot. Manager was friendly on arrival and reccomended a fab restaurant within walking distance (the cliff hanger - beautiful food and sea views). Rooms were clean and comfortable (shower not great though). Breakfast good.

Nice pool (although you need to book the time you want to use it as only 4 people allowed in at a time and non residents also use it).

5 min walk to highcliffe castle/gardens and highcliffe beach (beautiful).

Id recommend it as a perfectly good B&B to stay in while visiting Highcliffe and its attractions. Nothing particularly outstanding though.
