“Nice service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 April 2014

I intend to book a room for June, but wrongly booked one for April. I should have been charged for a cancellation fee because it's near the check-in date. However, the customer service at Gasthaus Steinbock is so nice that they said they can understand my situation and not charge me this time. I am so appreciate their understanding and recommend this accommodation for the nice service.

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 December 2013

My fiancee and I stayed here for two nights in December 2013. We selected it after doing approximately 10 minutes of internet research. The value was, in my opinion, excellent, all things considered. The location is nearly perfect: the gasthaus is convenient to the Wilderswill train station and two small markets, there is a river right out front that lulls you to sleep, and behind the property are hiking trails leading up to a long wooded ridge.

The room itself was made up very nicely, but we felt crumbs or something inside the bedsheets. Slightly disconcerting, but it did not affect our sleep or overall enjoyment. Additionally, the shower curtain liner had mildew on it - it didn't bother ME but my fiancee skipped a shower because of it.

The staff was pleasant if not coordinated at times, and they were also "out of" the blue train passes and were unwilling to discount our self-purchased local train tickets when we checked out. Part of the draw was the free transport, but alas, we still had to pay.

The restaurant was, to my American sense of the value of a dollar, overpriced. The food was perfectly palatable; I ordered a burger that was decent but not spectacular (which did not come with fries or any side to speak of) and my fiancee had a steak which contained a fair amount of fat. Those two dishes, a beer and wine ended up running us 93 CHF. I guess the food is just that expensive in Switzerland but be prepared to drop a large dime on food.

Breakfast was filling - there were several types of good Swiss cheese, meats, yogurt, fresh and canned fruits, cereals, coffee/tea, and orange juice. Plenty of bread, too.

Parking is free so that is a plus, and it's a nice-sized parking lot right next to the property.

Overall, I had a positive experience and would go back, but I definitely was not prepared for the sticker shock at the restaurant.

Room Tip: Room 103 has a good-sized patio outside with tables and chairs. In the summertime I bet it would be...

Stayed here three nights for a conference in Interlaken after our reserved hotel elsewhere was closed due to water damage. Could not have asked for a better hotel, especially as a replacement! The hotel is a two minute walk from the Wilderswil train station or the bus stop, and both provide frequent and free transport into Interlaken with the guest card. The room was on the second floor with a nice view of the river below and covered bridge right next door. The church bells mentioned elsewhere were a nice addition, and did not both at all with sleeping. The staff were great, helping with every request and assisting with an extended client meeting over a very nice dinner. There is also a nice wanderweg (walking trail) nearby that takes you up through the woods and into the next village with a great view of the Jungfrau.

We stayed for two nights in a room on the top floor overlooking the river. The sound of the river very relaxing to sleep with. However the church bells from next door every 15 min was hard to get used to. You did not need a watch just the church bells to tell the time. The room was large and comfortable, the shower a bit small ( I am a big guy) but water pressure and temp was great.
It was very easy to get to town by bus or train and they gave free transport cards for our stay which we used quite a bit. The building itself was very charming and well maintained. Staff was very kind as well.

The breakfast was more than adequate with fresh rolls, cold cuts, cheese, eggs, cereal, and such. No complaints about it at all.

We had a very pleasant 2 nights and would return again.

We stayed two nights and had a cosy room with a fantastic meal. The room was wood clad as it was up in the eaves but adequate size and facilities. It had probably the most powerful shower I've ever experienced and everything was clean. The hotel staff were extremely friendly and helpful, keeping the restaurant open long enough for us to get there when we rang ahead to say we were going to be late.

Little tip, enter the longitude and latitude co-ordinates into your SatNav to find it. Once you have it's really easy and obvious to find.

It has a very nice cozy room with all the basic and a perfect view of the Alps. The food was halal and the lamb was excellent. They even provide breakfast with soft croissant freshly baked. Location is good with all the convenience of walking distance. We took the first train to Lauterbrunnen just 5 minutes away of walking. We took the early bird train at 0640 hrs with a price of EURO245.00 for 2 persons. Just perfect for our trip to Swiss

I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel - was only for 1 night but I will return here to spend more time. Location is superb - just a short walk up from the train station and right on the river. Its right next to the church as well - so the frequent tolling of the bells takes getting used to!

Room was superb, overlooking the church grounds. Very attentive owner/staff who sought to make sure everything was OK. Even offered free train tickets as we looked to go into Interlacken for an evening meal - so that we wouldn't need to use car.

Was very impressed with this hotel.
