Rectory Farm and Holiday Cottages
Ranked #2 of 3 Levisham B&B and Inns
Reviewed 10 September 2013

We stayed for a week at Cowslip Cottage in the beautiful, secluded village of Levisham. The cottage was lovely-spotlessly clean, very well-equipped (special mention to the gorgeous bed, more comfortable than mine at home!) and in a wonderful location-I loved that we were literally 10 minutes walk from the moors. A nice touch to have a stand with leaflets about local attractions & walks-very helpful as there's no mobile phone signal (a bonus as far as I'm concerned-extra peaceful!) Younger kids would enjoy the farm animals (horses, ducks, chickens) and the trampoline (though my teenager did too!). Lovely to have a welcome pack with eggs, milk and home-made bread and cake. All-in-all, everything you could need and more, and at a very reasonable price. Can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: Even if you're staying self-catering, make sure you book in a breakfast-great value and quality...

Delighted to read you had a great weeks holiday in our cottage, We try hard to make things as memorable as possible for everyone. Delighted you enjoyed our breakfast and looking forward to seeing you again soon.

The table tennis and trampoline do not have an upper age limit as we are all young at heart!!

we booked here because we wanted to have sunday lunch on the north york moors railway and needed a place to stay locally.the lunch and day were amazing dining in pullman coaches with uniformed waiters and silver service.highly recommended.
we chose rectory farm because of previous good reviews and we werent disappointed.michael and heather are great hosts who include lots of extra bits that make a stay special for very reasonable cost.they offered us an upgrade to a bigger room for an extra £5 per day which is worth doing if available.they do cater for horse riders as mentioned in previous posts with stabling available.
the horseshoe inn up the road is busy at weekends but there is a sister pub on the main road the fox and rabbit which is bigger and does similar food.we would recommend the fylingdale inn near robin hoods bay if you want to go further afield.
we visited pickering which has quirky shops and a flea market.whitby has the abbey and a famous chip shop.robin hoods bay has a nice sandy beach plus rockpools-it is a sort of northern version of clovelly.scarborough and filey are nearby.
if only they were 150 miles closer we would visit every week!

What a great time we had at Rectory Farm Levisham, we holidayed with our 4 horses and they were catered for at Rectory Farm. Heather and Michael could not do enough for us, great hosts. We were met by Michael at the bottom of the hill in Lockton and he escorted us up the hill into Levisham. Heather welcomed us and got our horses settled in. We then sat down to some home made cake and tea, a welcome treat after our drive from Doncaster. We had 3 great sunny days of riding over the hills and through the woodland. A must do holiday for horsey owners wishing to take their horses on holiday. I could not reccomend this establishment enought. Oh the rooms were beautiful , and we had a lovely breakfast cooked by Michael. They even provided us with a plentiful supply of ice for our G&Ts. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Room Tip: All rooms lovely

Just returned from a weekend Mountain biking at Dalby Forest using Rectory Farm B&B as our base.Despite a very late arrival on Friday night we felt very welcome, safe and secure bike storage was offered too. Our rooms were spotlessly clean with super comfy beds and all the comforts of home. Really delicious and filling breakfast with great fresh coffee, the rhubarb and ginger jam was gorgeous and the stewed fruit was a real treat. Having our own lounge with log fire, flat screen TV and complimentary tea and cake after a hard day out on the bikes was a real bonus too.Michael and Heather were very attentive but never intrusive and we all felt very comfortable. Hoping to return again soon as there is so much to do and see in this area.

Thank you for your positive comments

. We have a safe and secure area for mountain bikes and being so close to Dalby forest, make an ideal base for the fit and adventurous, However the steam railway which runs through levisham station on route between Pickering and Whitby offers a quieter and less energetic way to discover this area, with a taste of a bygone era.

Delighted that we were able to make your holiday enjoyable and look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

A warm welcome with tea and cake for us after a 15 mile walk from Hutton-le-Hole. Very clean, comfy room, quiet and well equipped. Our dog was catered for in the farm's tack room overnight too! A short step to the Horseshoe pub for a good meal and a few real ales, and an undisturbed sleep. Breakfast was hearty, homemade and substantial, the hosts attentive and friendly. A refreshing stop on our walking holiday, good accommodation and good value. Easy to recommend.

Room Tip: The rooms in the main farm building were all of a high standard.

A lovely, spacious, comfortable, quiet, clean room with views of the village
A good, hearty breakfast; locally sourced bacon, sausages and eggs freshly cooked on a hot plate. Homemade preserves and home baked bread (toasted)
Michael and Heather made us most welcome and always felt they were on hand, if needed
We will certainly visit again

We have enjoyed three nights B&B in the delightful farmhouse. The owners made us welcome. The breakfast was one of the best we've eaten - excellent sausages, bacon, homemade bread, jams and stewed fruit. The room was spacious, well furnished and clean with a nice sitting area. The surroundings are beautiful. An experience we will treasure.
