“Excellent staff and great food !”
Reviewed 7 June 2014

We stayed overnight after a lovely day walking around Flatford, Dedham & Lavenham. Upon arrival and throughout our stay the staff couldnt have been nicer or more friendly. The room was fine, recent decorated and very comfortable - if I only had 1 small gripe it was very warm overnight.

We had an excellent 3 course dinner, all food beautifully presented and very tasty. Very good value for top notch food. Overall it was a nice visit for a birthday treat, a lovely part of the country and would recommend to anyone.

Friendly welcome, clean, good sized room full of character. Comfortable bed, though slightly on the hard side for me. Tasty vegetarian meal in the bar - though there was only one option available. Well-kept Adnams beer on tap. Good night's sleep, but room rather too warm even though it was a cool, rainy evening and I had the window open - not sure why it stayed so warm. Breakfast was the highlight. Orange juice tasted really fresh. Decent large French-style cup for coffee, which came in a cafetiere. Scrambled eggs the best I can remember having in a hotel. Fresh fruit and Tiptree marmalade. Excellent!

Stoke by Nayland is a beautiful Village dominated by its imposing church, St mary's the tower of which oft used by Constable in his paintings.
The Angel Inn is a very old building full of quirks and charm and about as 'country pub' as you can get. two lovely small gardens, although set on a crossroads, there is hardly any traffic.
A booking problem was handled efficiently and without fuss. The rooms are delightful, very quirky, odd shaped with copious beams, etc.Very clean and with all the amenities you would expect from any good Hotel. The Bed was very comfortable. Breakfasts are served in the galleried dining room and are excellent (eggs Benedict, lovely)
Ate at the Inn both evenings of stay. there is a restaurant and a Bar Menu. The food was of a very high standard and a good choice on Menu(s) reasonably priced. The wine list is small but concise and the Malbec we chose, superb.
Service throughout was very good and the staff obviously being professional trained as opposed to the 'get on with it style' of some establishments, not perfect, but just ask and it is done.
Stoke is a perfect quiet base for the whole of Suffolk and every outing was a joy and easy, albeit a Bank holiday weekend.

Room Tip: All the rooms (I saw two of six) I suspect are different and I sure all as charming in their own way...

We were staying in Stoke Nayland at the Hotel opposite for two nights and booked the Angel Restaurant for dinner the first night. The food was excellent , well prepared and presented, the service was firendly and efficient, good wine list and all in all quality at a reasonable price. The only negative was that the Prosecco was a bit sweet and flat, but it was instantly replaced, no problem.

Selected this hotel from an internet search for places to stay near Dedham. A great find, their didn't appear to be a straight line in the building, some of the doors into the rooms were very low, but it was everything I hoped it would be for a building of this age and to top it Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding for dinner - a perfect first night in England. Would have loved to have stayed longer. Great staff, friendly and welcoming.

This was a recce to assess possibility of a family reunion weekend in Constable Country. All the staff were very friendly and attentive. Our room was clean and comfortable. The weekend included dinner at The Angel, and the 'twist' was the second night dinner at The Anchor, Nayland. Both meals were good and the service excellent. We are arranging to return for the same deal with more family.

Room Tip: Room 4 has a good view and nice bathroom

My Wife and I spent 2 nights at the Angel on their "Dinner Bed & Breakfast With A Twist" package, dining at the angel on the first night & at their other inn "The Anchor" on the second night, (3 miles away in Nayland), the deal included transport to & from The Anchor.
On arriving we were greeted & checked in by smiling friendly staff & taken to our room (room 1) which was fabulous.
our first evening meal was first class & we could pick any dishes from the a la carte menu, the service was excellent & again the staff friendly.
on the second night we were driven to The Anchor by one of the owners & greeted again by friendly smiling faces & promptly offered a complimentary drink.
The food at The Anchor is quite different to The Angel, more gastro pub than restaurant with a menu comprising of many pub favourites such as angus beef burger, fish & Chips, Sausage & mash & many other choices of starters & mains. The quality of the food & service was again excellent.when we were ready we were chauffeured back to the Angel for a nightcap.
Breakfast on both mornings (I had full English) was great.
All in all we had a very enjoyable stay & what a change to be served by happy people (sometimes hard to find).
Try it, you wont regret it.
