We chose this resort as the base for our family holiday (3 adults, 3 older teenage kids) based on Tripadvisor reviews, with a deal through Webjet and we couldn't have been happier.

We booked a 3br poolside apartment, and were blown away by the location, amenities and fit-out of the accommodation.

Downstairs is a well set out TV area with dining table to the side and a fully appointed kitchen with views to the pool/spa (for parents who want to keep an eye on kids). There's also a downstairs toilet. The patio leads directly into one of the two pools through a pool gate, with the large spa set between the two pools. Upstairs were the three bedrooms, one with ensuite, and the bathroom/toilet. Washing and drying were in a cupboard at the top of the stairs. Stairs to the roof led to the rooftop sundeck.

The pool area was kept clean and tidy and the spa was quite large enough for multiple families to utilise without treading on toes. The pools are not heated to a high temperature, but one is smaller than the other, so feels a bit warmer. It was good to jump straight from the spa to the smaller pool for a cool-down.

The beach is a 5min walk away via an access path and normal beach entry. The Resort is placed mid-way between two patrolled areas so there is a 10-15min walk to the flags, but if you just want to laze away and catch the sun, then there weren't many other people around so you felt you had the beach almost to yourself. We also caught the sunrise one day... beautiful!

Amenities are a bit of a walk, or a short drive. The nearest supermarket (Coles) is 5min drive and there are good restaurants and take-aways both North and South of the resort.

The airport was a bit of a worry for me, but as mentioned in other reviews, you really don't notice it. You hear a landing and takeoff in the morning and early evening if you're "at home" but normally you'll be out doing stuff, so it's not a problem.

Access to attractions was not bad (we had a hire car and there was a lock-up garage!!). Australia Zoo is around 45min drive as is the Hinterland area (Maleny and surrounds). Noosa and Caloundra are 30min either way. That's pretty much the boundaries of the Coast, so anything else is in that range.

Finally... the owners and staff are very friendly and helpful!! I drew on their knowledge of the surrounding area and things to do, and there was no issue in leaving bags at reception on our check-out day. We were also lucky to extend our check-out ($10 for an extra hour which isn't bad) as there was no-one coming in after us.

Definitely recommended for family or group accommodation on the Sunshine Coast!

Room tip: Poolside apartments have direct access to the pool. Beach villas are separated from the pool.

We had two 2 bedroom apartments next to the heated spa and pool. After golf, a plunge in the pool and a spa was mandatory followed by watching golf on Foxtel provided free. Beach only 50 to 100 metres away, patrolled in one part. Staff at the Resort were both friendly and helpful. Good food, both takeaway and bistro, was not far away, particularly High Tide down the road a bit.

We recently spent a week at the sand dunes resort and really enjoyed the accomodation. The apartments are starting to look a little tired and worn (marks on furniture, some holes in carpet etc.) but this is easily forgivable because you can see that they value cleanliness. Our dealings with staff were wonderful and they were proactive in making sure things went smoothly with late check in. Gardens and pool are very well kept (we saw staff cleaning pool in the mornings) and heated pool was fantastic for winter vacation! Location is superb if you want quiet and low key. Really easy walk to Mudjimba which had a nice park for kids and a couple of cafes/bakery for your morning coffee. Plus beach access and short stroll along the sand to patrolled/flag swimming area. Parking included plus everything you could need provided in kitchen. We could occasionally hear planes from airport but these were not a bother at all.

We have just completed our 11th holiday at the Sand Dunes Resort (our 2nd this year) and it just gets better each time. The location is perfect and the fully equipped self contained apartments are spotless on arrival and everything works. The bus stop outside the front gate is a bonus saving lots of driving. The staff are friendly and helpful and the new management are as good as the previous ones. Certainly worth travelling from Phillip Island at least once each year. The pools are maintained well as are the spa and the barbeques.

Room tip: The noise from nearby the airport can be a little disturbing at first, however, after the first day or two you don't hear it anymore.
