Timberstone Bed and Breakfast

I am not usually a B&B person as i find the quality of bed and breakfasts in England quite poor. But I have to say this was an excellent stay. Tracey and Alex truly make you feel welcome, the rooms are big and clean and made up to very high standards. The breakfast is wonderful too. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend this to anyone visiting Ludlow/Shropshire. An ideal place for hiring out with your family too as there are 4 rooms and 4 bathrooms. Really very good indeed.

Our visit started with a welcome cup of tea. The service we received throughout our short stay was of a very high standard and always friendly. The room was lovely and given the location in the countyside the views were great. Do have an evening meal during your stay as it was of a very high standard and no worries about having to drive home! There was nothing we didn't like. It's a short drive from Ludlow so if you're looking for a quiet relaxing stay, beautiful coutryside views, warm friendly hosts and great food I'd suggest you stay here.

"Bread and breakfast" is a misnomer as the hosts now serve first rate dinners also.
Premise comprise a beautifully restored and somewhat expanded cottage in lovely surroundings
The owners could not have been more welcoming and thoughtful and the meals and drinks selection were really excellent
Only (minor) criticism was that our mattress was on the hard side!

Jane and I first stayed at Timberstones for the 2007 Ludlow festival. We have been going to the festival for a number of years and stayed in various B&B/Guesthouses in the area. Timbertstones is the only accomodation that we have been back to having stayed there again this June.
Why did we go back?
Two hosts, Tracey & Alex who cannot do enough for you; rooms that are impeccable in the layout and decoration; the surrounding contryside; the feeling of bliss when you wake up and see the dawn coming over the Clee hills and the sun spreading across your room through the open doors onto the balcony, knowing that shortly you will be enjoying one of Traceys amazing breakfasts with home made bread and preserves with Alex doing a great job with local produce over the stove. Even the two boys that Tracey & Alex have are a treat with one of them making us an unexpected gift at breakfast! (It helps if you can make paper aeroplanes!).
The first year we stayed the property was in a state of flux with building work going on ( a ground exchange heater for hot water?!) and an extension to the property in the first stages. Even so the stay was a good one.
This years stay was even better with Tracey now cooking evening meals to request and a wine list that Alex has bought in using his knowledge of the wine trade.
Would we stay again? A resounding yes. We have even booked a weekend in October this year and we have booked ahead for the festival next summer. I cannot reccomend a stay more highly than that.

We have just returned from a weekend away at the Timberstones B & B which we first discovered in the Alastair Sawdays 'Go Slow England' book.

Well where do I begin, we travelled with our friends to enjoy a chill out weekend in Ludlow, Shropshire. We stayed in the recently added extension to the cottage and our room had a balcony. The views were beautiful and all you could hear was the sound of the birds and the occasional cow in the field. We had a freestanding bath in our bedroom and also an ensuite shower room. I wasn't sure what to expect but it was a wonderful idea and was extremely restful looking out onto the rolling hills while relaxing in the bath. We dined in on the first night along with other guests with a superb meal prepared and served by Tracey & Alex and eat out at the Boyne Arms on our second night recommended by our hosts and wasn't at all disappointed. The atmosphere over dinner at the B & B is relaxing informal and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The breakfasts also are a wonderful array of organic cereals, homemade jams, fresh fruit and locally sourced produce to make a fine full english cooked breakfast. Also a nice touch is that they provide you a printout of the local daily weather.

Tracey & Alex are excellent hosts and nothing is too much trouble to ensure you have a wonderful stay, their attention to detail is first class. Both are very wecoming and friendly without being obtrusive. There is still some ongoing garden work and a few improvements but I'm sure with the vision they have for this Bed & Breakfast we can't wait to see what they do with it on our return.

There is plenty to do in the surrounding areas, with Ludlow (only a few miles away), Bridgnorth, Ironbridge and so many more places I'm sure anyone visiting will have more than enough things to do if the slower relaxing pace of life is what suits you.
