“just right - what more to say? good landscape, good food, good rooms... good prices”
Reviewed 5 July 2013

This is an utterly pleasant and relaxing hotel.
Staff are friendly.
Prices are reasonable.
The baths are great and you can also get massages, facials, etc in the wellness centre that is part of the hotel.
The buffet in the Oasis restaurant is great - the only criticism of it might be "how not to overeat?" :-)
Some of the rooms are not very big. But they are comfy, very quiet, lots of choice of TV channels, most have great views and some have balconies.
There are lovely, spacious sitting areas around the different floors of the hotel so if you need a bit more quiet space it is there - just not necessarily in your own bedroom.

Oh and do not miss the 15-minute underwater music in the spa, every hour on the hour.

Room Tip: Ask when reserving to avoid a room overlooking the parking lot.

This is the third time we spend a weekend in Lavey-les-bains and specifically in this hotel: rooms are fair but clean, better the ones on the first floow with terrazze on the beautiful garden. The hotel provides free access to warm pools, where you can have hamman, sauna or simply enjoy the contrast between the warm water and the chilly temperature outside. It's nice in summer but it's even better in winter when you can swin surrounded by snow!

First I should say I love, love, love Lavey-les-Bains and have been visiting for years with a local friend. Until recently I'd only ever come to the baths for 3 or 4 hours at a time.

This week I stayed for a few days in the hotel.

I wasn't expecting much and was overall pleasantly surprised by the hotel decor & facilities.
The grounds of the hotel are gorgeous; I did not expect the lovely walking paths.

With just a few important upgrades this place could be truly fantastic. Most have to do with food service.

1. They desperately need a better chef.
If this is a health-oriented establishment they should not feed people cheap, institutional food. Examples? Fatty breads and cheeses at breakfast and cheap jams with artificial ingredients, wheat and corn in the jams. Yuck. Also: The restaurant staff informed me that all evening desserts prepared from cheap boxed mixes. Why couldn't they make a simple panna cotta themselves with fresh ingredients? Like I said, the desperately need a better chef.

Much of the dinner buffet felt like being in an old folks' institution. The buffet is terribly overpriced for the quality of the food.

The only good meal we had was at the chalet: salad, lamb, pommes frites each exceptionally well-prepared. (I unfortunately ordered the vegetable rosti & the potatoes were terribly undercooked and it was topped with unusual vegetables that do not suit rosti at all, like Italian marinated red peppers. Yuck.)

I the future we'd eat only at the chalet.

2. Beware that there is no access to real food in & around the baths. This s a real hassle & huge missed opportunity as people sat in the water for hours.

Service could remarkably improved here quite easily & just doesn't seem to be the focus of the operation. If you know this going in and do not expect it, hopefully that will help.

3. I had a massage that was no good at all. Stick to the saunas and baths.

Room Tip: Beware the train noise.

Towards the end of our rail adventure in Europe we decided to go to a wellness hotel in Switzerland and decided on the Grand Hotel des Bains at Yverdon-les-Bains. What a treat. The town was small and this hotel was first class. The biggest treat is the adjoining spa. It's free if you stay at the hotel. They have several hot pools with different bubbles, steam and sun room and a lot more. It's the best I have been to and we'll go back when I get a chance again!

To be fair, this hotel is quiet and accomodating. The room is clean and simple. But the pillow and the bed are uncomfortable for the price I paid. 175 CHF. each person and extra person for 80 CHF. I was with my husband and my 12 yrs. old son, so we paid for that simple room for 435.00 CHF. per night. Ok, you will have free access to all accomodities in this hotel. I love the warm swimming pool, the hammam bath and the sauna. Maybe, if I paid a little bit less, I will rate this hotel for 5.

We spent a week end in Lavey after our recent move. This break was excellent, the hotel is good, the staff attentive, and our "grand charme" room was very spacious.
The food is good, plenty to chose from in the buffet.
We had a lot of fun in the pools, the sun was out so it was lovely
Only downside was the light in the bedroom, too weak and you can hardly see anything in the bathroom

The hotel reminds you of the ones from the 'belle epoque', as does the furniture and decoration. Most importantly, the beds are fine, the bed covers very light, and in this hotel you can still sleep with the windows open.

The spa facilities are one of a kind, and a must see, especially on a bright and cloudless day , or, when you happen to visit in wintertime, amidst the snowy shores of the spa complex itself..

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a queen or a king bed, since most of the bed in rooms are twin..
