Charming and Welcoming Small Hotel

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 28 Jun 2015
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The location is ideal for exploring the beautiful Lavaux region. We walked through the vineyards to Lutry and used the excellent train service to visit Lausanne and Montreux. The hotel itself is charming and our room was spacious, spotless and had many lovely rustic features. The owners and staff provided excellent service, which was both friendly and professional. The food was excellent and we enjoyed dinner on the terrace taking in the spectacular views of lake and vineyards. We would definitely recommend this hotel.

Lovely hotel in the vineyards of lavaux. The owners are incredible and do everything to make your stay special. My husband and I stayed with our two and a half year old and newborn and found both the hotel and restaurant to be a perfect combination of a romantic/classy and kid friendly. The trains passing close to the hotel were a bit noisy but everything else more than made up for it.

Looking for a romantic getaway? Do you like wandering through terraced vineyards with amazing views of lake and mountains? Do you want to avoid driving? Do you like good breakfasts? These are some of the many reasons for staying at the Auberge de la Gare in Grandvaux! It is easily accessible by train and there are some of the most beautiful (but steep) walks in the world right outside the front door. In addition, the hotel is squeaky clean, very stylishly decorated, has a popular restaurant and friendly, helpful hosts. What more could you want for an escape?

Highly recommended. Great room and view of the lake, mountains and vineyards. Phillipe was a delight. I arrived by train during a rain shower and was happy the Auberge was only steps from the station.

The inn is part of a complex that includes a restaurant. We stayed on a Sunday night when the restaurant was closed. The room we were given (#5) had a sunny terrace overlooking Lake Geneva and the mountains on the far shore. The inn also overlooks a railway station, which initially made our hearts sink, but we weren't bothered by the noise of passing trains. If you're a light sleeper you might need ear plugs. The room is spacious, very clean and charmingly decorated. Tall people should duck as they enter because the ceiling is low in the entryway. The host was friendly and enthusiastic about his neighbourhood. He directed us to the best portion of the public walk through the vineyards and booked us a table at a local restaurant that served superb food. The breakfast he provided the following morning was generous and delicious. Highly recommended.

Room tip: #5 has a terrace

I had a wonderful stay at L'Auberge de la Gare. The views across the Lake are lovely, and though the station is next to the hotel, the room was quiet.
My cousin and I had a wonderful evening meal of fresh perch cooked simply but beautifully.
I would certainly stay here again, as the staff were very welcoming and helpful.

Room tip: Ask for a lake view. You have to see it across the railway line but still worth it.
