“Sleep like a King”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 April 2012

This Castle hotel exceeded all of our expectations. The room was very large and the view was amazing. We were in the Prince double room with a seating area separate from the bed and everything was better than expected. The castle is great, and when we arrived I mentioned that the steps looked old and worn to which my wife replied "It is a medieval castle....It is supposed to be old." The restaurant here also is not to be missed. Wild boar and venison as well as other German foods. Everything was wonderful.

I am very pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. Yes, your wife is right. The castle was probably built in the year 1000. Our family is trying everything possible to get original. The Princess room, with its large windows have a really great view. It is one of your nicest rooms.

Fantastic! I am over 50 and I finally had a dream come true by being able to spend a night in a castle! My husband and I really enjoyed our stay. We had fun walking around the different floors and exploring different areas in the castle. Dinner was excellent and so was the room. Everyone was very helpful.

We did not have the opportunity to stay in the Castle overnight as we were staying with friends, but we did get to enjoy a wonderful dinner there with our friends and their children after visiting Rothenberg. It was marvelous fun and superb food! The castle itself is very beautiful. What a treat to be able to enjoy time together in a medieval setting. I would recommend it to anyone

The coolness starts early - you can see the castle for miles, and it looks just like you think a castle should. The exterior is immaculate. The interior is very nice also (but you have to be able to appreciate stuffed animal heads). We stayed in one of the nicer rooms up on the 4th floor, so it was a bit of a hassle to haul the luggage all the way up. The room was spacious, very comfortable, and well decorated, and the view was nice.

The only complaints I would have were that the first person we talked to at the desk was curt just short of the point of being rude (although there were other staff people that were extremely kind and helpful). The restaurant menu didn't appeal to us (although I'm sure that just relates to our personal tastes) and there weren't any other decent restaurants in town, so we ended up going back to Rothenberg for dinner (the breakfast was very good, though).

You have to sleep in a castle at least once in your life, and this one is a very fine place to do that.

Stayed here after early morning arrival from US in Frankfurt and day trip visit to Rothenburg...distance covered on first day was just right and room was comfy for jet lagged family. Castle is very cool...especially for kids...they loved all the taxidermied birds and animals everywhere. We stayed on third floor in fairly large room...sofa bed pulled out so room could easily accomodate four people. We loved seeing the four foot thick stone walls in our room! Breakfast buffet was excellent and staff was very nice and polite. Would highly recommend as a unique experience.

This is a huge solid fortress! I've never seen beam and windowsills so big! The veiw was great, the nights silent, (we kept the window open). The food was good, venison and mutton on the menu, as well as chicken and beef, breakfast is self serve and typical for the region( meats cheeses, eggs, breads) overall it was an amazing experience!! Stay at least two nights!! This would be a great honeymoon destination, so secluded and romantic.

My family and I just stayed at the hotel over the weekend, and I had expected a much better experience based on the reviews I read here. The castle, while historic, felt cluttered and poorly maintained. The woman at reception was very rude and abrupt, acting as if we were wasting her time.

There was a wedding when we booked, so room choices were limited. We were in a large room with a sitting area on the top floor - and for the price, I had hoped for much more. The furniture was badly scratched and outdated. The upholstery was ripped on the couch, with the foam stuffing showing in multiple spots. The television was tiny and only had 6 channels. The bed was two twin mattresses pushed together, and the pillows were flat from too much use. No other pillows or blankets were available. The bathroom was split- which was not a big deal- and clean enough, but hadn't been updated for awhile. While fresh fruit was provided in the room when we arrived, there were lots of dead flies in the windowsills. It's still a bit early here for flies, so I'm not sure how recently the room had been cleaned before us.

We ate dinner at the hotel restaurant, and the staff was stretched with the wedding, so service was slow. Our waitress seemed nice enough but busy. Food was ok for the price.

I would not go back if in the area, and would choose to stay in Rothenburg instead.

We are very sorry that your expectations were not met.
Upon request, you still have pillows and blankets at the reception. A bed with two mattresses are standard German.
We opened our hotel on Friday afert renovation, all rooms have been cleaned thoroughly.
