“Clean and comfortable”
Reviewed 27 March 2014 via mobile

This was our first visit to beautiful Dominica and we were very pleased with our 8 night stay at Sea View. As other people have mentioned, we found Elle and her staff to be very helpful and friendly. The apartment was very comfortable for the four of us and we did have a spectacular view of the sunset on the Caribbean.

The kitchen had all we needed for cooking, but it is a bit of a challenge to find groceries. Definitely stop at one of the larger stores when you are driving from the airport because nothing opens early in Mero and the selection is limited. Take in the market on Saturday in Rosseau for great fresh fruits and vegetables.

We didn't rent a car, but instead used the local buses. It added to the adventure of our trip and was a reasonable way to get around but we did find that on Sundays buses are not as plentiful. The shortcut path to the bus stop and beach is down and up a relatively rugged steep hill so be sure to have sturdy shoes.

The people in Dominica are so very proud of their beautiful country and welcome visitors. It was a pleasure to visit all that this island had to offer. We enjoyed snorkeling, hiking to waterfalls, bird watching in the rain forest as well as relaxing in the warm weather and island breezes.

We stayed in the Moonlight Apartment, I would recommend an upper unit if you can get it. The one lower is still nice, just limited ocean views. The unit was very spacious and spotlessly clean. The sunsets and views from our balcony couldn't get much better, which is where we spent most of our time. Locked gates at night and the units themselves seemed very secure, although the area in general seemed very safe and I would have felt fine leaving the doors unlocked frankly.

The kitchens are outfitted with plenty of misc utensils/pans/pots. The beds (King sized) were very comfortable and the AC in the bedrooms worked well. The area was very quiet, I never once heard anything while trying to sleep. Hummingbirds frequent the grounds that are very well manicured. It is a steep, 2 minute hike down to the beach, but nothing I really minded, and if you have a car you can easily drive. The beach at Mero has several very nice swimming areas, 90% of the time it was almost deserted. The only time I saw any semblance of a crowd was during the several hours in the afternoon when a cruise ship was in. Several small cafe's or restaraunts nearby, and there is a store in Mero which provides the basics....and good ice cream.

An easy 20 minute drive to Roseau, or 30 to Portsmouth. We rented a car which made it easy to get around the island and obtain supplies, driving is a bit "white knuckled" but nothing that isn't overcome with a confident and aggressive driver, which we had.

Only downside...their website says they have a converter for power, they do not. What they meant was they have a converter from Dominicia 2 prong plugs to European 3 prong, but it's still 220, so make sure you bring a converter from home if you're American as it was quite the ordeal to find one on the island. If you find yourself looking we finally found one at James Store in Picard directly across from Ross University.

Internet was kind of spotty, but that's an island problem, not the Sea Views. When we needed towels or anything they were very good about providing them, they also gave us a lot of tips on things to see and do without getting caught up in the "tourist" atmosphere. I would definitely recommend this place, great value, great place.

Room Tip: Pick an upper unit if possible, much better view of the ocean.

We had a very good trip to Dominica. Our first week we stayed at the Caribbean Sea View Holiday Apartments. They have an excellent view of the ocean and units are spacious, clean and quiet. The patio overlooking the ocean was very nice to sit and enjoy your morning cup of coffee. It was nice to have a kitchen to make the coffee and a morning snack or even breakfast as well as a fridge to keep the drinks cold.

It is also a short walk down to the village of Mero and to the beach.

Room Tip: Check when you book as some rooms have a/c and others do not. However, we found that with the window...

I was very happy with the quality of the apartment at the Carribean Sea View, it fact I was shocked at just how spacious it was. Very clean, well equiped, with a lovely tiled bathroom, and nice kitchen will all applicances you could need. My apartment had screens on the windows, so I opened the windows and cooled the apartment with the breezes, and we slept very comfortably in the air conditioned bedrooms - the beds were comfortable

I thoroughly enjoyed the size of the balcony - I spent most of my time here including meals and relaxing, watching sunrise and sunsets. A very quiet, relaxing location.

I swam at the beach at Mero (which is a steep hike without a vehicle, although close by) and enjoyed the black sand beach. I ate at a nice restaurant on the beach called Romance.

I used a taxi service while I was there driven by a local man named Augustine (casualdominica@gmail.com) - his van is spotlessly clean and he's knowledgable about the area. He took us to Roseau and to the Champagne Reef for snorkelling, which is a must!

I would stay at this apartment again

Room Tip: Go for the 2nd floor room with a balcony!

Great to find an apartment with a/c on the Caribbean coast. Well appointed apartment, well above the norm from our experience of Dominica. Local bars and restaurants, produce all available nearby, even in June. You need to have a hire car to explore easily from here.

First, a few words about Dominica. If the one thing you must have in a tropical vacation is a beautiful, swimmable beach, you should probably forget about Dominica. But... if you are interested in unspoiled tropical beauty both above and beneath the sea, and you don't need to be pampered at a four star hotel, then I would not hesitate to recommend this island. My wife and I have travelled extensively in the Caribbean and the Bahamas and we have never seen a more beautiful island. The rain forest is spectacular, flowers, unusual birds, lakes, rivers, and unbelievable waterfalls wherever you go. Under the sea, I found some great snorkeling up and down the west (Caribbean) coast. This is a hiker's and diver's paradise.

Now, to Caribbean Sea View Apartments. My wife and I stayed at four different places during our Dominica trip and this was our favorite. Our Apartment, the Sunset Apartment, is aptly named as it is perfectly situated to take advantage some of the most beautiful sunsets that you will see. It was spacious, meticulously clean and has a very large covered balcony, overlooking the Caribbean, where, in addition to the sunsets, we watched 3 different kinds of humming birds gather nectar from the abundant bouganvillea and other tropical blooms surrounding the apartment. When we were at the apartment and not sleeping in the very comfortable king size bed, we spent almost all of our time on the deck, eating all of our meals there. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need to prepare whatever meals you would like to make.

Summing up, Sea View was a great place for us and quite reasonable as well. For our seven night stay, we paid ninety American dollars per night.

We stayed eight days on the east coast at Rosalie 3 Rivers Eco Resort, and then eight days at Caribbean Sea View Holiday Apartments. We had booked the Royal Palm apartment well in advance and had an email from Ellie, the Manager, telling us to arrive after 2.00 p.m. when either she or one of her staff would be available with the key. We arrived well after 2.00 p.m. but neither the staff nor Ellie’s relatives had the key. We waited for about half an hour in a rain shower before Ellie arrived. She said she had emailed asking us when we would be arriving. We received no such email. Ellie told us to phone her if we wanted fresh towels. There was no suggestion that the sheets would be changed during an eight night stay. After the welcoming friendliness of the people at Rosalie 3 Rivers, the reception we received at Caribbean Sea View Apartments was in stark contrast. Instead of an apology, we were told we could leave if we wanted to! We felt most unwelcome. We saw little of Ellie thereafter.

We found the Royal Palm apartment spotlessly clean. It was furnished and equiped to a high standard. The kitchen had all the equipment one could ever need, including a coffee percolator, fridge freezer, full oven and microwave. The dining room could be easily converted to a bedroom by way of a pull down bed, neatly concealed as a cupboard. The lounge area was comfortable. The bedroom had a four poster bed, and fan (no air conditioning), and plenty of cupboard space. The bathroom was clean and modern with a walk in shower. There was a small uncovered verandah. This was overlooked from the verandah above so was not so private.

It was our 25th wedding anniversary. We had hoped for privacy, but the property seemed to have paper thin walls. We could hear clearly people’s conversations in the apartment above. It was particularly so when we were in our bedroom and to a lesser extent in the lounge, because one of the verandahs to the apartment above was just outside our bedroom window.

The apartment looked out towards the sea and the garden. It was glorious to see and hear all the birds which were attracted to the garden.

Towards the end of our stay we did meet Ellie’s father and his wife, who were friendly. They gave us mangos and grapefruit from their garden. Their friendliness made up for the initial unwelcome reception we had received on our arrival.
