“British touch in Brussels”
Reviewed 16 March 2012

This is a rather elegant hotel with a distinctly British touch. The rooms are fairly large and comfortable. The breakfast is good but expensive. Completely free, easy and fast internet access is an added value though. The location is a little bit off, but you are still only a few subway stops from the real downtown. I like it, and will probably stay here again.

Although a few minutes removed from the city centre, the hotel remains admirably located and adjacent to metro, tram and bus stops. The rooms are traditional, spacious and even a little decadent. The service is perhaps a little slow but this does detract too greatly from a fine hotel.

The only downside is the restaurant. Prior to the takeover by Eurostars, it offered excellent food at a reasonable price. Regrettably, the restaurant now offers only poorly cooked fare at a high price. Eat instead at one of the restaurants close by in Avenue de Tervueren or its side streets.

This hotel is very conveniently located, right next to tram and metro. Check in experience was efficient but impersonal. The room was big and comfortable, and being situated at the back of the hotel was very quiet. The bathroom was ok, with the usual toiletries etc and the bit of mould on the bath which other reviews have mentioned. No sign of the bidet mentioned in the room description, but it's hardly essential. However, the bed was not at all comfortable and in real need of replacement! It looked like a divan base with a thin mattress on top. The lighting in the room was too dim, despite there being four lamps. We were only there to sleep for a couple of nights so it wasn't worth complaining, and the price was reasonable. Definitely not 5 star.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back

Had a nice quiet room that did not face the street, which made all the difference in the world in terms of the noise level. Price for room was very reasonable. Room was very clean and much bigger than expected compared to other European hotels I've stayed in (especially in Geneva). Free Internet and breakfast included in price was great. Also had dinner at the hotel one night and that was good. Mattress? Terrible! Hope management reads this and does something about it. However, I would definitely stay here again.

Love or hate? Both words would not be appropriate, but something in between.
For the purposes of my business trip the hotel had a good location, and in general terms the facility is ok - but the clock is ticking.... Wireless included.

With time the decor and facilities are becoming more and more outdated. Rooms are of good size, bathrooms well appointed and clean. But for a modern traveller this is like sleeping in a Laura Ashley showroom - ok if you like a very, very floral experience.

If booking early, rates offer good value, but at times the requested prices don't match with the offering.

This property is part of Small Luxury Hotels, but I do wonder how that is justified. Ok springs to mind, but at best this is old world luxury if that word is supposed to be used.

Not my first stay, but first time I had dinner here. Hasty and very cold service in almost empty restaurant. Shame really, as the restaurant / bar area could be one of their strengths.

There is fairly handy metro connection to central Brussels. Location works well for business purposes, but this would not be my choice for a weekend stay, unless friends/family etc. nearby.

Room Tip: Street side rooms can be a bit noisy in the morning, heavy traffic outside. See hotel website for th...

I stayed here with my mother in December to visit the Christmas market. The location is not central but the metro station is right outside the hotel and it was very convenient to get to Ste Catherine.

The room was large and although next to the lift it was very quiet. The decoration is a bit dated and the lights in the room were sometimes temperamental.

We didn't have breakfast there so I can't comment on the food. The mini bar prices are crazily high but that seems to be standard in all hotels. There was no kettle in the room. Really, I would rather have a kettle than a fax machine.

The shower and bath were good.

I booked this as a secret hotel where the name is revealed once your booking is confirmed. The rate was at a big discount but I think it was enough to pay. I would definitely consider other hotels if I visit again.

One annoying thing - the ticket from the airport for the airport bus can be used on the metro but for the return journey, you cannot buy a metro/airport bus combined ticket - annoying. Also, the metro ticket machines do not take euro notes - so you need a pocketful of coins!
