“Great hotel in dodgy part of town”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 November 2013

I stayed here in a twin room with my mum for a long weekend in Nov.13. We caught the Eurostar so it was nice and convenient for arrivals & departures. It took 5 minutes to walk across the road to the hotel and being so close to the station, we used it on our first night to have something to eat. The area was a bit on the dodgy side. Nothing happened but it was full of men just hanging around the streets and sitting outside the restaurants and they all go quiet when you walk past. A bit unnerving and I'm not the easiest person to unsettle. We decided to go out for a walk on the first night and we turned left out of the hotel......don't! Nothing is up there other than empty buildings and dodgy people. Turn right and it takes you to pretty much everything within 15-20 minutes.
The staff were great. Really friendly, spoke English. We used the breakfast room on both mornings and the staff were also great and the room was clean. The breakfast was good, nice selection if you wanted cooked, fruit or just toast.
The hotel inside was really nice. It looked brand new and everything was in a great condition. The room was small but designer looking. Beds were comfy, 5 English TV channels to pick from. The bathroom was nice and clean, easy to use.
My only gripe was the shower. I have NEVER been in such a hot shower in my life!! Room 214...I could have died! I finished up turning it off and rinsing myself off with a cup from the sink and standing in the bath. So hot I burned my scalp!!! But on the plus side, it was powerful :-)
We stayed at the front of the hotel and the sound proofing was so good, an entire market had set up over night and we didn't hear a thing.

Room Tip: Double check the shower temperature as soon as you check in so you don't have a surprise on the...

It's always hard to evaluate hotels in cities that have a huge tourist demand, because as with many things, the hotels are too overrated. This seems to be the case of Cascade Midi.

My room was very nice and Internet was free. Beds are comfortable, and the room was very quiet (facing the backyard). WC has all the indispensable stuff, and was reasonably sized.

Staff was helpful, cheerful and professional (although the receptionist insisted in speaking spanish to me knowing I'm Portuguese - it was an effort to be nice that I appreciated).

Breakfast was not that special, with the standard egg and bacons, fruit, yogurt and cereals.

So why I think the hotel is overrated? I cannot pinpoint a specific thing - the hotel is a spartan four stars hotel. It has all the minimum amenities a four start hotel has to have, but no extras. For the price I payed it could be better.

I still have to find a hotel that really makes me want to go back to Brussels.

Room Tip: If you need to get a good night sleep, ask for a room facing the backyard.

Stayed here one night while transiting to London on the Eurostar. Hotel is about a two minute walk from Brussels Midi Station, and thus convenient to those needing a train the next day. Room was really nice, modern & clean. Pretty much what I expected for a $100/night hotel room.

This is a lovely, relatively new hotel located 300 m from Brussels Midi Sud train station - so convenient for travellers arriving from Paris, London and Germany. It is a 20 min stroll to La Grande Place and less to the Mannekin-Pis. Our room was on the ground floor, facing the streeet and was very quiet - we had a lovely night's sleep! The room was bright, clean, airy and quite big - certainly big enough for the 2 of us - the bathromm was also large. We had an evening light meal at the bar (our choice - we could have used the dining room) that was really tasty and breakfast that was sufficient for us. The staff (front desk and bar) were friendly and attentive. We think that Cascade Midi is good value and we recommend it.

Hotel Cascade Midi is a modern hotel (built in 2010) adjacent to a key transport hub in Brussels, the Midi/South train station. You have just-across-the-street access to a wide network of railway destinations in Europe and train/bus services to both Brussels International Airport and Charleroi Airport (Brussels South). The hotel is around 20 minutes walking from Grand Place, but you naturally have close access to metro and tram if desirable.
The hotel is relatively small in size, but with modern and functional rooms of acceptable size. The staff service was friendly and casual and the hotel cleanliness was good. Internet was free of charge.
If you want easy access to a wide range of transportation, the Midi area and this hotel, is a very good choice. If central parts of downtown or the eastern Brussels city center (Grand Place, shopping, museums, EU institutions) is more important, a hotel in a more north-eastern direction might be more conveniant.

The room is way bigger than I expect, location is OK, only takes about 20mins walk from the hotel to the Central part of Brussels. The bathroom is soooooooooo good. Wifi signal is good. You can get almost everything you want.

Didn't try any other facilities in the hotel. The price is already very good for the facilities i have.

I arrived at this Hotel in Daylight and was not impressed with its location or the natives hanging around outside in the street. Whilst extremely well positioned for the station, it is not a place for the feint of heart.

The room was very comfortable and well appointed although the mini bar was poorly stocked and quite pricey. The bar did not have any draft beer and only Leffe Dark in bottles on the day we visited. This may not be a problem for all but for such a hotel located where it is - is a let down.

All the staff were extremely polite and courteous. The breakfast was also very good. Overall an expensive one night stay, with little to do unless you wished to walk around outside in the dark and risk being mugged.
