“reasonable”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 December 2013

We have just returned from a one night stay. Seemed a fairly good position at first, within walking distance of the city. A lot of dodgy looking people one the corners between Midi station and the hotel. My husband was pick pocketed by a child 5 minutes before we got the Eurostar home. Apparently this is very common. There were police in the hotel reception and we were sure something had happened in there too.
The rooms were reasonable but pillows small and lumpy. We had a bad nights sleep because of them.
Wouldn't return, better to be nearer the city.

Can't rate it highly enough; just a short stop from the town centre, sizeable clean rooms, comfy beds, welcoming helpful staff.
They delivered my phone (£400+) for only 13 euros as I stupidly left it in reception; seriously, they could of kept it... Honest people.
Still, great time, would definitely go back.

I stayed here for one night before catching a train from Brussels-Midi the next morning. The location couldn't have been better for the station. I didn't notice anything particularly dodgy about the road, despite previous reviews.

The room was very clean - everything looked new - and best of all the bed was very comfortable. There were plenty of sockets around the room (a little thing, but one some places miss out). I would recommend this hotel for anyone who needs to be by the station, but not if you need to be in the centre - it's good, but not good enough to stay so far out specifically for the hotel.

Hotel Cascade Midi is ideally located close to Brussels Midi station . Lovely clean rooms with tv mini bar and air con. Hairdryer located in bathroom and lots of power points for charging electrical items.

The hotel has a bar and a small restaurant for breakfast , which had plenty of choice and when booking via Eurostar is free .

All in all a great hotel which despite its proximity to the station was incredibly quiet. Great value .

I stayed here in a twin room with my mum for a long weekend in Nov.13. We caught the Eurostar so it was nice and convenient for arrivals & departures. It took 5 minutes to walk across the road to the hotel and being so close to the station, we used it on our first night to have something to eat. The area was a bit on the dodgy side. Nothing happened but it was full of men just hanging around the streets and sitting outside the restaurants and they all go quiet when you walk past. A bit unnerving and I'm not the easiest person to unsettle. We decided to go out for a walk on the first night and we turned left out of the hotel......don't! Nothing is up there other than empty buildings and dodgy people. Turn right and it takes you to pretty much everything within 15-20 minutes.
The staff were great. Really friendly, spoke English. We used the breakfast room on both mornings and the staff were also great and the room was clean. The breakfast was good, nice selection if you wanted cooked, fruit or just toast.
The hotel inside was really nice. It looked brand new and everything was in a great condition. The room was small but designer looking. Beds were comfy, 5 English TV channels to pick from. The bathroom was nice and clean, easy to use.
My only gripe was the shower. I have NEVER been in such a hot shower in my life!! Room 214...I could have died! I finished up turning it off and rinsing myself off with a cup from the sink and standing in the bath. So hot I burned my scalp!!! But on the plus side, it was powerful :-)
We stayed at the front of the hotel and the sound proofing was so good, an entire market had set up over night and we didn't hear a thing.

Room Tip: Double check the shower temperature as soon as you check in so you don't have a surprise on the...

It's always hard to evaluate hotels in cities that have a huge tourist demand, because as with many things, the hotels are too overrated. This seems to be the case of Cascade Midi.

My room was very nice and Internet was free. Beds are comfortable, and the room was very quiet (facing the backyard). WC has all the indispensable stuff, and was reasonably sized.

Staff was helpful, cheerful and professional (although the receptionist insisted in speaking spanish to me knowing I'm Portuguese - it was an effort to be nice that I appreciated).

Breakfast was not that special, with the standard egg and bacons, fruit, yogurt and cereals.

So why I think the hotel is overrated? I cannot pinpoint a specific thing - the hotel is a spartan four stars hotel. It has all the minimum amenities a four start hotel has to have, but no extras. For the price I payed it could be better.

I still have to find a hotel that really makes me want to go back to Brussels.

Room Tip: If you need to get a good night sleep, ask for a room facing the backyard.
