This is a beautiful townhouse that has been converted to bed and breakfast accomodation. The rooms are more like suites; huge, ornate, with bathrooms to match. Despite the size, the accomodation retains a cosy yet smart vibe and feel, with each and every space in the house filled with some form of artwork. But it's not cluttered and busy, but calm and chilled. The hotel is situated just 10 mins walk from Station Midi, but the road and surrounding area is a little run down and felt seedy at night; although Brussels and Belgium as a whole has low crime rates we (as two female travellers) wanted to rush back indoors after an evening out. The owner and his friend who deputised for him during his absence were friendly and unobtrusive. Our only surprise was how rubbish the breakfast was. It was literally a yogurt and bread (not toast) with butter or spread and tea or coffee. The second day we got a pastry. There wasn't even a tiny attempt at serving a continental breakfast, which given how much the hotel was to stay in, was pretty tight to say the least. Our room wasn't tidied once during our stay, and I think this is common practice given the owner's laid back approach. Our room opened out into the communal areas on the first floor, which didn't allow for much privacy. Overall though a good place to stay if you want to avoid the big hotel chains.
