“Stylish and quiet”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

This is a beautiful townhouse that has been converted to bed and breakfast accomodation. The rooms are more like suites; huge, ornate, with bathrooms to match. Despite the size, the accomodation retains a cosy yet smart vibe and feel, with each and every space in the house filled with some form of artwork. But it's not cluttered and busy, but calm and chilled. The hotel is situated just 10 mins walk from Station Midi, but the road and surrounding area is a little run down and felt seedy at night; although Brussels and Belgium as a whole has low crime rates we (as two female travellers) wanted to rush back indoors after an evening out. The owner and his friend who deputised for him during his absence were friendly and unobtrusive. Our only surprise was how rubbish the breakfast was. It was literally a yogurt and bread (not toast) with butter or spread and tea or coffee. The second day we got a pastry. There wasn't even a tiny attempt at serving a continental breakfast, which given how much the hotel was to stay in, was pretty tight to say the least. Our room wasn't tidied once during our stay, and I think this is common practice given the owner's laid back approach. Our room opened out into the communal areas on the first floor, which didn't allow for much privacy. Overall though a good place to stay if you want to avoid the big hotel chains.

Room Tip: Don't stay in the first floor room. It leads onto the communal living room which is adjacent to...

What a nice surprise, staying in this beautiful house turned into a B&B in the middle of Brussels, 5 minutes walking from Eurostar train station. Quiet location and everything decorated with a keen eye for detail,
From the outside (street) it is almost completely hidden, no signs. Street looks like any other street close to a major railway station (not so inviting). However once you cross the threshold, you feel like entering into a different world. Beautiful high ceilings, large staircase (downside no lift) wooden floors and a central living room which could be the stage for a Ralph Lauren photo shoot.
Rooms are themed, I stayed in Ghandi (India), large room with a balcony and a kitchenette. Unbelievable how quiet it was, I had the balcony doors open and all I heard was the muffled chanting of a muezzin from the nearby mosque, which gave it an extra special touch.

So all in all a very nice experience and best value for money in Brussels.
Look on their website for photo's.

I would definitely come back here again.

Room Tip: India room (3rd floor) on garden side is quiet Difficult to park infront of the Hotel Reception ho...

Sometimes you hesitate to put your comments on the Internet, because in a selfish moment you want to keep the secret to yourself. L'art de la fugue falls in this category. Everything was perfect to the smallest details. Spacious rooms, nicely decorated and furnished. Very friendly and hospitable owner who made sure our stay would be perfect. We will return at every occasion we have. Excellent healthy breakfast in the nicest area you can imagine. This place is more than a bed&breakfast, it's more a palace&breakfast. Thanks you !!!!

Loved this B&B.
Way better than expected and nicely priced.

The caregiver, who was covering for the absent owner was friendly, helpful and made every effort to keep us happy.

Rooms were huge, uniquely decorated and nicely kept. Clean and you can actually feel that the furniture is not the cheap and old budget stuff seen in other 3 star hotels.

The only downside would be the steps...all the way up to the fourth...nope, no elevator. But even the sweaty climbing is well worth it!!!

Super close to midi and a supermarket on the other side.

Ask for the top floor...it is a loft, humongous with lots of windows. Moon roof that shuts. Terrace, tons of places. A tub and a shower and double sinks.

Could not ask for more.

This place is beautiful and perfectly situated in a safe Muslim neighborhood a short walk from Midi train station. Frédéric is a really great host, and lives on site on the first floor of the B&B. He's done a great job curating art from all over the world and the pictures I've attached reflect this. Wifi is fast and continental breakfast is delicious. The only knock is that there is no decaf coffee. I highly recommend L'Art de la Fugue.

Very close to the Brussels midi station, very helpful warm owner. We stayed at farinelli room which is royal and clean and very spacious. It has a bathtub too. The breakfast was meager with just fruit, juice, cafe. There is a kitchen ( we were allowed to use the kettle to heat water).
Not really close to city centre but metro station is walking distance to get into city centre in 15 mins.

Room Tip: Farinelli room

This place was very convenient to the train station, on a quiet road. The innkeeper was very friendly, if a bit quiet. The placed is decorated from his travel collections from around the world- very nicely. A few issues were that there were no curtains on our room with floor to ceiling windows. The breakfast was also a little lacking as we were only offered bread (untoasted) and yogurt.
