I was a little dubious about our choice during the ride up to the bungalows (distance from main snorkelling/surfing sites etc.), you have to pay up front and it is expected that an extra bed will be purchased for kids (even if they sleep in your bed), but after an iced coffee at BS huts restaurant - which is perched on the shore overlooking an idyllic mainland panorama - all concerns were lost. Surfers, snorkel enthusiasts, paddleboarders, families all looked to find their place here.
The staff of BS huts were a great help in organizing boat/snorkel trips, ringing the other hotels for their free pick-up buggy service, and general helpfulness. Things move a bit slower on the island, so don't expect things to be done in a jiffy. And if you want your toast to come out with your eggs, or ice cream with the banana fritters, you'll want to mention that too. It's not sharp on customer service in the framework of standard hotels, and that's what also makes it more personable here.
We were a family of three - one 5 year old - staying four nights, and we chose to upgrade to the extra bed when we arrived for 15$us/night, which bought us a much more spacious and very charming bungalow with a small bed enclave build into the structure. Our daughter loved it. The beach pool was small (little kids level one end for wading that drops off into a deeper space) but accommodated the handful of (15-ish) huts/residents. It was fully booked one night and there was never a feeling of being crowded. Definitely not a drinking and partying scene here.
Surfers walked their boards down the stretch of "beach" (not really a bathing beach, but Mushroom Bay is only a 7minute walk away), and paddled around the point to one of the main surf areas (the Playgrounds), excellent opportunities for new surfers and paddle boarders alike). Mushroom bay also offered other little kid friendly eating options with a pizza oven restaurant. And if you forgot your sarong or board shorts, two tiny shops could service basic needs - though with less wiggle room for haggling (I happily paid twice the amount for an el-cheapo sarong at the local).
While at BS huts we took two snorkelling trips (great with a kid in tow, bring your floaties for the boat ride though, as not all outriggers have lifejackets and it can get fairly choppy if you are making the trip out to see Manta Rays), had a massage (fine), hired their paddle board, and utilised their restaurant for most of our meals (all food was great! Fresh tuna sandwiches, fantastic beef burgers, and as to be expected very tasty local fodder - most mains were around 30k-50k idr.).
Tips for taking kids and yourself here: buy your silicon mask and flippers for the kids before coming, the pickings on bali were slim, the options on Lembongan - zero (snorkelling trips organised with a local skipper even had fine equipment for adults). Bring an extra swimsuit ladies! There was nothing nearby, other than Sanur, if your bathers suddenly lose form. Sun cream, shampoo, soap etc. without parabens - bring from home. Bring extra plastic bags or a water proof bag for outrigger rides. Bring a basic bite soothing cream, not so many mozzies but ants or other things that nip will get you. We brought a little night light, which came to good use). The bungalows a/c varied in temperature, you might need to move to a different bungalow as we saw other residents do, during the day they were extremely hot so if you have a child napping take a water sprayer with you (it helps wonders!) I wish I took some rehydration powder with us and a hair conditioning treatment, as the constant pool/sun/diving mask/ocean combo was a little hefty on the body.
We were planning our return before the second day was through.

Room Tip: Air conditioning can be different from room to room. You might need to shift bungalow to meet your temperature requirements.

First time to Bali and Lembongan and we didn't know much about the islands, so we looked at tripadvisor for help. To be honest we were a bit sceptic when we arrived, since then entrance is a mix of building materials and "garbage" but once inside the "hut area" it is like a little oasis. Very friendly and helpful staff. Two nice pools although we only used the one by the ocean. We had a large hut which was very nice and clean and the little path areas with lush bushes and flowers was a nice place to run around for our five year old. The location is quite good with just a short walk to mushroom bay, but a way from the bustle. The outside bathroom was a great hit with a night time shower. The little restaurant has a good menu that will last a short week (without getting tired of it) and even though prices are higher than mainland Bali it is very cheap - we spend 250 AUS over four nights on drinks, food, some massages, a snorkel trip and a SUP hire.

Pros:
+ Very nice place with friendly staff
+ Great rooms and nice pool
+ Good prices (although probably in the high end for Bali)

Cons:
- Nearby rooster gets up early (not a problem for us with a five year old)
- Beach is not the best

We had read several reviews indicating the practice of double booking rooms, so we re confirmed our booking 3 days prior to arriving for an ocean view room. On arrival we were advised that our ocean view room was double booked! Aykurumba! They offered us 2 adults and 2 kids a rom out the back, larger in size, though about 10 metres from the construction of the two new huts. Resulting in loud electric saws and hammering (mainly in the afternoons) along with a fine spray of saw dust drifting over the pool. We were disappointed to not have the pleasure of hearing or seeing the ocean from our room. We were approached by the owner on the last day who apologised for the mix up, he indicated they have several agencies that double book their rooms. He did refund the difference in price of the rooms and cover the cost of our lunch meal.
Overall if you are intending to stay don't necessarily expect to get what you have booked. Otherwise though a pleasant enough place.

Dear Sir and madam,

Thank you very much for stay at Bay Shore Huts and thank you for making review on the Trip Advisor.

Please kindly allow me to response about your comment of " double booked the room and do not too much expecting to get the room request. "

Basically our concept is to reach guest satisfaction and ensure them for having comfort with service and facilities either room and outdoor. About for not having ocean room, basically our hotel is on the beach and even the guest accommodate on behind , their still able to listen the seabreeze. Our hotel is quite new ( 2 years ) and we admit that we are on progress to keep learning and anticipate of complaning arise from the guests.

There is no object at all for us to give the cash back and FULL REFUND IN CASH " should we find the mistake is coming from our side. This is to guaranteed that we would like to positioning our hotel as a GUEST SATISFACTION is our major point.

We truly apologize for not making you happy even though we have been tried to give a lot of compesation during your stay with us.

Please kindly email me direct at omegasan1@yahoo.com should you wish to response and further questions.

Hi ive recently came back from a 3 week stint in Bali.Ihave stayed at lembongen many times in the last 20 years and found Bay Shore Huts to be the best by far.My children are aged 13 and 15 and both surf so the main beach Jungut Batu is to busy.Having stayed at Mushroom Beach a few times Tamarind Beach was much quieter for myself and my children. The surf break at playgrounds was to busy so both kids were able to surf Tamarind with no crowds. We had the Deluxe garden view hut number 11 which was fantastic. The hut was clean ,very large in size and we had a beautiful view of the bay.Swimming pools were lovely and clean and the owner Putu and staff were fantastic. We stayed there 8 nights and we are looking forward to going back to Bay Shore next year. The restaurant served excellent food and nothing was a problem .I would recommend bay shore huts to all of my friends as its just beautiful.Kathryn fox.

This was our fifth year running staying on Lembongan. We have always stayed in the Tamarind Beach location away from the main hub of Jungut Batu as we prefer the more rural and peaceful appeal of this part of Lembongan.

I was unable to book our preferred accommodation for the full 6 nights we were on the island and had to find an alternative for the first 2 nights. What an absolute delight to find this fabulous locally owned and run establishment. The staff are so friendly and nothing was too much trouble for any of them. I would have to single out Nick as one of the most friendliest and always with a huge smile on his face. When it came time for us to relocate to our other nearby accommodation he made sure all of our luggage was delivered leaving us to simply make the short walk unhindered.

The pool, eating and deck area offer magnificent views to the North across the Bali Sea of Mt Agung. The food was of a high quality and the included breakfast was more than satisfactory. They are still putting the finishing touches on the new reception area which is located towards the rear of the property. The four huts surrounding the pool at the rear would be ideal for 2 or 3 families wanting to have their own private space with the added bonus of a swimming pool.

When my family and I return next year we will be booking Bay Shore Huts for our full stay and I would encourage anyone considering staying in the Tamarind Beach area to give this establishment serious consideration as it is one of just a handful of truly locally owned and operated businesses.
