This is the second time we have stayed here. This time we had one sea front twin room and a garden room with aircon. We went there for the diving. World Diving is based at this guesthouse and offer an excellent service. The staff here are very friendly and can't do enough for you. The food in the restaurant is very good and excellent value for money. If you want to go diving or just get away from the busier parts of Bali for a few days this place is great.

The beachfront rooms are basic but nice. I fell asleep to the sound of waves crashing on the shore and had beautiful sunset views from my terrace - no need to spend time in the room anyway! One problem that might deter people is the open slats on the windows allowed certain "wildlife" to enter the rooms. I always had geckoes in my room and one evening had a mouse run through. It didn't bother me, but I know others might not appreciate it!!! For 100,000 rupiah a night I had no complaints. The garden rooms seemed much nicer though I prefer the beachfront views. The staff were friendly and the restaurant served excellent food.

We spent three nights in one of the excellent near new garden rooms built behind the original property. The rooms were very comfortable and just a few steps from the pool.
When you choose between a garden room with either fan or air conditioning, you get exactly the same room. The air conditioning is simply switched off if you choose the fan option.
The difference between fan and air conditioning was 100,000 Rp so we took the cheaper option. In future we would probably pay the extra for air.
The hotel was well located with the original rooms and restaurant right on the waterfront and the new rooms and pool about 50 metres behind.
The breakfast included in the price was excellent and other meals available were of good quality and value.
The staff were very friendly and helpful.
There does seem to be some confusion over the price of the rooms. The price quoted on the internet and indeed on printed lists in the rooms is less than staff were quoting verbally. Our account was made up at the higher amount but this was resolved when we produced our internet confirmation.
We had a look at the cheaper original rooms while we were there and thought they were excellent value.

Pondok Baruna Guesthouse was recommended by my parents who had stayed there one month prior to my visit, as they had had a satisfactory stay. Unfortunately I can't say the same. The accommodation itself is quite nice however the staff were horrible. They were lazy and rude and even yelled at us when they thought we stole their bath towels (which btw they had taken after the first night and not replaced despite me having asked on several occasions!). We would love to return to the island so while we were there we checked out of few other places up the beach and in mushroom bay - the staff seemed very friendly, rooms were nice and they were very competitive in price. I will defiantly be going elsewhere next time.

If you're thinking of staying at Pondok Baruna, go for the garden rooms at the back of the property - they are lovely, modern, next to the pool. The beach-facing rooms are older, smaller and many are very close to the restaurant and diving centre. Overall, our stay at Pondok Baruna was wonderful. These are modest accommodations, so don't expect luxury. But we were well taken care of and could access most of the amenities and services we needed at the hotel or nearby. Jungutbatu, where Pondok Baruna is located, is a fantastic location to explore Nusa Lembongan, and you have an opportunity to stay in a place that is right amongst the locals. Early every morning, we would go for coffee and the nice breakfast prepared by the staff, in the open air cafe facing the beach. We watched as the locals brought in and hauled around their daily seaweed catch, while children played on the beach and the tourist and dive boats came and went. It was lovely. Other than relaxation, we visited the island in order to go diving, and the dive centre here - World Diving - is superb! Very professional, friendly and knowledgeable dive guides, and the underwater sights are breathtaking. If you don't dive, go out at least once for a snorkel. On the day we did not dive, we rented motorscooters for about $9 US per day from Pondok Baruna and zipped around Lembongan, over to Nusa Ceningan and back. Highlights from around the Island include the Mangroves, Mushroom Bay and Secret Beach. Around Jungutbatu, there are many warung (cafes) and we were surprised by the consistently good quality of the food wherever we went. Try the Pondok Baruna cafe and the Bunga Bungalows Cafe for food, and if you need a fruity cocktail, Scooby's is the place to go. We stayed at Pondok Baruna in the low season (December) and the whole area was pretty quiet - not a lot of people around, which didn't bother us at all. We heard it gets quite a bit more lively in the May-November period, which may take away from the chill atmosphere a bit. Weather for us was mostly good but it does rain in the low season so be prepared for a downpour. Our overall experience at Pondok Baruna was good and we would recommend it for budget-conscious travellers who still expect comfort and cleanliness.
