The manager David was eeeeextremely helpful !! I love the view and huge rooms. You do have to walk to your room at night with a flashlight and a guide since it is very dark. We faced the lake which was very nice.Food was delicious. We had lambchops for dinner..Wonderful service and a great stay.

Room Tip: Face the lake.

The Kigio Wildlife Camp was a scheduled overnight stop during a 12 day safari tour. We arrived late in the afternoon to find a delightful camp! Had we known, we would have scheduled more time at this lodge. It would have been great to do 2 nights here allowing us time to explore the surrounding area and do a bush walk. The staff was great, food was fabulous and atmosphere great! Definitely recommend this lodge!

The place to go for bird watching. The local naturalist is a bundle of charm and really knows his birds - and the plants around the lodge. We were the only guests in camp at the time, so we got the royal treatment: all the game walks we could overcome, first class service and excellent food served in front of the fireplace.
The huts are enormous; charmingly decorated in safari style and with all facilities in good working order.
Plenty of wildlife. We saw hyenas and a short glimpse of a Caracal - and lots of herbivores.
Well run eco-tourism camp with a very charming staff.

The thatched roofed, adobe huts are cool and different. No phone service, but the wifi works. Eat outdoors looking at a lush green meadow and river with hippos in it. The staff were fabulous. You get to order one of 2 entrees each meal instead of other hotels buffet. Food was excellant. Vervet monkies are around the surronding trees. Community members come to sell their paper beadwork. You can go on nature walks to a waterfall, looking for hippos and walking with zebra.

We spent two nights and hated to leave. We really enjoyed the stay.

Room Tip: Ask to stay in the huts and not the camp. The huts are all the same.

We stayed one night at Kigio as part of a safari package. Just a little different from our other lodges at Maasai Mara and Amboseli. Stayed in Turaco cottage and loved the huge room, balcony overlooking the river, hot water bottle in the bed, rustic shower/toilet/washing area (flip-flops and bath robes provided!), canvas back wall with window coverings that rolled up. We enjoyed sundowner and night safari (saw hyenas) and then a wonderful soup and shepherd's pie meal served in front of the fireplace. As there were just 4 of us there that night, we had breakfast at the table overlooking the river with sun shining on us. Wonderful food, pleasant time with Shirley and David (managers) and George. Perhaps not for everyone if you wish to have Internet, spa, telephone, laundry, but if you want to see Africa in a new way and still have reasonable "comforts of home", Kigio is a delight. I called it "glamping"! We wished we had been booked for more than one night.

A very nice lodge in a beautiful Nature Conservancy. No television, hardly to phone coverage, and Internet not working, the best way to enjoy Kigio…. On the other hand, the beauty of the place, the animals so close, the surrounding mountains and the river passing by… all this makes Kigio a lovely place.
The rooms are very big (maybe this makes them less cosy), food is OK and the staff was very friendly.
We did several walks near the river, as well as a night game drive. This one was quite special, we saw a hyena hunting under big a full moon. We had a fantastic long week-end at Kigio.

Kigio Camp provides all of the amenities to those seeking to experience the look and feel of the African bush, and does so while striving very hard to maintain the delicate ecological balance that the land deserves. The rooms were clean and enormous, with views of the Malewa River flowing right below your deck. The thatched roof leaked a bit, bit that only added to the ambience of the place. The centrally located Dining Hall served up meals that were delicious and plentiful, and the staff were incredible.
