Karaoke till midnight nearby ! Pray before dawn !! = Noisy = Restless = Not Relax = Not enjoy.
Extremely tiny room for three. Thin mattress on wooden strip bed, don't turn around while sleeping.
Course without training. Instructor not even try to solve your problem. Diving all by your talent.

I was trying very hard to contact Spheredivers Homestay before I came. Luckily I could make it come true at the very last minute, so I have spent a wonderful time with Spheredivers for 6 days and finished my AOW course. Friendly staff and delicious food, professional diving services with care and unforgettable seaview. What more could I ask for?

my wife and i stumbled upon this gem whilst on our honeymoon in 2009. we'd stayed in semporna's posh water front hotel previously with pool, air con, etc but wanted to stay on mabul for more diving but were terribly let down by scuba junkies who'd apparently arranged for us to stay on mabul but upon arrival, they did not even know we were coming! we went from place to place by boat and fortunately, spheredivers with ish had room for us.

location wise, it is built on stilts on the water amidst the sea gypsy village with access to the shore via a rickety wooden walkway.

the building itself is a new wooden structure, basic rooms but with all facilities to ensure a comfortable stay such as fresh water showers, proper flush toilets (note all are plumbed to a proper sewerage system and not emptied to sea). there is a wonderful open communal area where great local and fresh meals are served eg grilled tuna, mantis shrimps also! not as tasty steamed but better if grilled i think. nevertheless, holidays are about trying new things and we'd certainly never tried this before! this area is where you can relax and socialise, watch the wonderful sunset and is also where dive briefs are held.

diving the area is superb, sipdan is a km away or so visible from the accommodation, water is clear, marine life numerous, turtles everywhere, great for macro life too as well as big stuff. spheredivers ish's boat is great, brand new tanks and compressor.

overall, the team there looked after us superbly no fault at all. food great, location fantastic, accommodation, comfortable despite being basic but we are in a quite remote area in the middle of a sea gypsy village so what can you expect! it is an adventure akin to safaris.

would revisit without hesitation and have recommended this place to friends.

This will be the place for you to stay if you are looking for peace and escaping the city buzz... I've been staying there for 5 days and 4 night stay... wonderful host (Stanley) always trying to make your holidays enjoyable and fun... fantastic DM (Azhar)...
The rooms are clean and good enough for the price that we pay which is RM 70/per night, and that price include 3 meals per day plus some evening snack... The food are delicious (kinda mix Chinese and Malay cuisine... On our last day they even serve Nasi Beriyani and Rendang rusa... (^_^)
The toilets are clean and the housekeeper always making sure the toilet are well maintain and usable all the time, not like other homestay... The sun deck are a great place for sunbathing and hang out...

The electricity are shut down from 0900H till 1600H but that is not problem since you will be doing activities around the island during that time. The only thing that bugging me are about my sleep quality, the sleeping mattress are so thin that after 2 night you sleeping on that mattress you can almost feel the wooden plank that support the bed... After a tiring activities such as snorkeling and diving, having a good night sleep is essential...

My girlfriend and her sister & boyfriend stayed at Sphere Divers homestay for a few days in August. We were a little apprehensive being non-divers but it was the perfect place to relax, do some snorkeling and sun-bathing and learn a bit about Mabul and its people through Stanley, the fantastic host and resident Dive Instructor. We were treated like kings I was treated to some local rum as it wa smy birthday when we arrived), fed some fantastic food including the biggest platter of tuna sashimi we'd ever seen - would've cost about 100 quid in London! We were taken out snorkeling which was mind blowing. So many beautiful fish and coral landscapes. Stanley is a pillar of the community in Mabul and his work with the local children through his school is extremely admirable. The accommodation is basic but comfortable and the sun deck was great to relax on with a few sunset beers!
