“Amazing!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 August 2014

I spent a night in semporna and then did the 5 night 6 day package on Mabul! My first day was a none diving day which in hindsight i probably would have changed but wanted to prolong my last week travelling. I had a day in Sipadan which was incredible (thank you Simon) and 3 days in and around Mabul, which was also amazing! DM were all great along with Rachel who took us out one day! Dive groups were small so room to see all the amazing stuff! I stayed in the dorm room which was a great room, with 3 bathrooms for 8 people! I had a perfect 6 last days travelling around asia and a massive thank you to the captain of the boat, who was taking us back to semporna, that turned around as i forgot my passport (nearly ended terribly)!

Thanks again for an amazing stay!

My work colleague recommended this place to me and I'm glad she did.
Scuba Junkie Mabul Beach resort is a great diving resort. I stayed for 8 days with 7 days of diving (23 dives) including 2 days at Sipidan

I stayed in the Deluxe Air-con room and found it to be quite nice. The queen size bed in my room was very comfortable and there was also a single bed too. The a/c was great as it was really hot during my stay. The bathroom was quite basic but clean and the room was made up daily. There was no TV or minibar fridge in my room. Would have been nice to have a minibar fridge in the room to keep water bottles cold. The VIP rooms have a fridge but I couldn't justify paying an extra MYR 50 a night just for the fridge.

The food is included in the price of the room. The meals were buffet style and there was a good mixture of western and eastern foods. There was plenty of fresh fruit, tea/coffee facilities and a large drinking water cooler to fill up your water bottles too.
The meals were all at set times and the diving was scheduled in between. This meant all the guests and dive staff dined together which I found great and got to meet and chat with a lot of people.
Above the dining area there is a bar where you can buy beers, softdrinks and cocktails. The bar can charge the drinks back to your room but be warned, there is no credit card facilities at the resort so you need to pay by cash.
Free WiFi is available at the dining/reception/bar area but it is really slow due to everybody using it. Speed is better when there are less people around - late at night / early in morning.

The diving is amazing. I cannot comment on diving hire gear as I took my own.
The dive masters were great and really looked after us.
Most of the dive sites were within a 15 minute boat ride from the jetty. Sipidan and Siamil are longer depending on weather. The diving conditions were really good. Great visibility (>20m)and virtually no current on almost all dives. Water temp was ~28deg so we dived in boardies and rashie - no wetsuit needed here. The famous Sipidan is an amazing dive location and well worth the extra cost however the close reefs around Mabul, Kapalai and the Seaventures rig were great too.

Overall, Scuba Junkies Mabul Beach Resort is a great place with amazing diving. I am planning another trip there.

Me and two friends stayed here in march for a week. We all got our open water and advanced in that time.
As a new diver I found the staff brilliant, confident, and capable. I was impressed by not only their skills as divers but also the efforts out into conservation.
We were there for shark week and enjoy every minute.
It is not a kick back place, you dive for early morning till late afternoon so prep ear yourself for that.
The food was fresh and served up at breakfast lunch and dinner and not forgetting cake o clock!!!!
Hope to return one day, and sipidan dive is a must see!!!!!

Mabul offers great diving - I did my Advanced Open Water there and was perfectly happy with the service.

Scuba Junkie Mabul Beach Resort is one of the Resorts on the island that offers "western standards" with nice Bungalows, clean western standard bathrooms; food is okay. Staff is friendly.
WiFi is slow but available.

If you want to dive Sipadan - get your permit as early as possible!

In general : I was perfectly happy these couple of days and had an amazing time diving.

I spend 6D/5N at Scuba Junkie on Mabul Island and completed 16 dives on 5 days. Out of the 5 days, there was 1 day that we dive in Sipadan which was the highlight of the whole trip.

The only draw back of diving Sipadan now is, you have no choice but you must stay for at least 4 days before you can get 1 day in Sipadan. Meaning, if you wanted to go to Sipadan 2 times, you have to stay for at least 8 days. The dive sites in Mabul, Kapali and Siamil are OK but not spectacular. There aren't many coral, at least not as beautiful as a lot of the sites in Philippines that I have been to. But the macro life and giants stuff are abandon. I would recommend you request to dive underneath the Seaventure site "Yellow Garden". There are many many things to see there and it is kind of amazing, too. It's worth going there for 2 - 3 dives.

July was suppose to be a good time to dive in Sipadan but we have relatively poor visibility in day 1 - 2 due to typhoon in Philippines. It gets better afterwards but still not crystal clear. Probably need to come here in April - May. Should be the best time.

We saw over 50 sharks in the 4 dives at Sipadan and also many, many turtles. Tuna, Barracuda and Trevally in a wall or tornado . . . amazing

We stay at a Delux A/C ensuit which is basic by very clean and spacious. There is one King bed and 1 Single bed. We often use the Single bed as a sofa. The water pressure is weak but there is hot water and that's a plus. The water is kind of salty but I think this is something you would expect for staying in an island. The air-con works fine and there is a ceiling fan, too. Power got cut occassionally, but when the power is back on, the surprising thing is the air-con automatically switch back on, too. great! Make sure you bring with you mosquito repellent and put them on before you go to bed or you get eaten alive. I have mosquito coil and I burn it through out the whole day to keep the room mosquito free. Still my boyfriend got bitten badly.

3 meals are included in the package and you kind of eat the same thing everyday. It can get a bit boring after 3 - 4 days. The best dishes are the fried noodles and the curry. Lots of fruits and salad, if you are vegetarian, there will always be 1 dish for you.

Soft drinks is relatively cheap to get from the bar only 3 riggets and alcoholic drinks around 10 riggets. The bar is a very very good place to hang out, chill out or just have a nap.

There are many cats on the island and they are all very friendly. It's heartbroken to see some of them not getting proper care and some of them have skin and eye problems. It's very sad. We were befriended with a couple of cats and they are lovely and gentle. Very good companions. If you see them, please treat them well.

Overall, Scuba Junkie is is delivery values which exceed it's price and I will definitely come back again.

Room Tip: No. 23 which is the room I stay is very close to the beach and jetty. Otherwise, you can pick a room...

We visited July 2014 and had an excellent time. The dive staff are extremely knowledgeable and more than willing to help you find the unusual underwater, and at the end of the day your dive guide would sit down with you and help you fill in your log books, reviewing everything you saw that day. I was very impressed by how they managed so many divers each day, and the staff in the dive shop could look you up and down and correctly size you up with the right equipment. Siamil island, where the last dive of the day is a macro dive, was a big highlight for us. The Dive site known as AWAS, just outside the front of the resort is really impressive as well. From doing a few snorkels when we first arrived, we had no idea there were so many turtles and other interesting creatures right on our doorstep. The diving boats and equipment were of high quality, and there were small dive groups (2-4 people). After speaking with people from other resorts, I was surprised to learn that Scuba Junkie has their Sipidan boat leave much earlier in the day, making the most of early morning conditions and giving you the first dive with no other dive boats around.

We were lucky enough to be staying there when some turtle eggs hatched, and the resort staff knocked on our door that morning to let us know that we could come down to the beach and watch them get released into the water. Scuba Junkie do great conservation work with the turtles, paying locals a higher fee for each turtle egg than what they would earn on the black-market, helping protect these beautiful animals. You can see the success of the project by the large numbers of turtles in the surrounding waters.

The food is of high quality, where there is a buffet style meal three times a day. So much to choose from, and not lacking in flavour. The diving/accommodation package is very affordable compared with other nearby resorts, and appropriately priced.

Great service all round, very professional diving outfit if somewhat an industrial production. Cafeteria had a very "summer camp" like feel. Dive sites and all the dive Masters were fantastic! Get a permit for Sipadan early if you can.
