“Great hotel & very friendly staff! Lots to do!”
Reviewed 3 April 2012

We booked this hotel through groupon for £105 which got us 2 nights with breakfast & use of the health suite free. This was fantastic value! The hotel is practically on the gorgeous sandy beach with only a small road separating it. The breakfast is HUGE! As well as a full Scottish breakfast you get free tea/coffee, choice of 5 fruit juices, yoghurts, porridge, cereals & croissants! As you dine you look out to the beach which has spectacular views! There's plenty to do as there's a pool, sauna, steam room, arcades room, child's soft play, gym & pool/snooker room. There's a lovely small shop for essentials & pool stuff & the staff are friendly & helpful within. The deluxe room (the cheapest room) its plentiful for a couple with more room than you need with a big open wardrobe, nice bathroom & very large shower! Everything was clean & well presented. Iron/board & hair dryer provided free as was the safe which were nice touches. Would highly reccomend especially if you get a good deal like us. Only things I would ask them to improve would be the restaurant menus were a bit limited & repetitive for main meals so we took a short drive to kircauldy for dinners & the jacuzzi was cold. Overall I would gladly come again.

We stayed at the Bay Hotel for one night on 19th March. We unfortunatley unlucky with the weather as it was very grey and overcast after a lovely few days beforehand which was a shame as the hotel overlooks the water and would have been lovely to see the views on a sunny day. We were checked in by a friendly receptionist and given a larger room than requested as had booked an executive suite. The room was clean and spacious with a sofa and chair in the living area and a bedroom above in the mezzanine area which also overlooked the Forth, there was also a balcony which would be lovely on a sunny day. For me the only downfall was the road outside but I am a particularly light sleeper so was disturbed by some road noise in the morning, but for sounder sleepers this should not be a probelm. We ate in the restaurant and the staff were again freindly and attentive and the food was very good and bar prices excellent. All in we really enjoyed our stay and would return

The Bay Hotel is in a beautiful situation with exceptional views across the River Forth towards Edinburgh from modern, well appointed rooms. The hotel restaurant is a big disappointment with poorly presented food. The quality of the dishes served was barely edible. The desription on the menu of local produce, particularly fish, tasted more like frozen fish - dry and tasteless. I would recommend the hotel however advise strongly that you travel elsewhere to eat.

I purchased a B&B deal through Groupon. I was aware the hotel was on a caravan site however was wowed by the size of the site. Checked into our room by friendly and helpful staff. The room was modern and had everything needed although we were in a disabled room with a view of the carpark- probably because we had paid so little. We chose to go elsewhere for dinner.

We both has a brilliant night sleep, comfy beds, no noise. The breakfast was served in a room overlooking the beach with spectacular views. The food was lovely, full cooked breakfast and cold buffet.

We then decided to go for a dip in the pool- YUCK!!! The changing room is mixed, busy, dirty and only had two showers. Gritty wet floor with sticky plasters. There was only a hand dryer to dry your hair, nowhere to plug in straighners. The pool area was MUCH smaller than it looks and considering it was about 10am on a sunday morning in march, the pool was like people soup. It was sooooo not a relaxing experience. Far too many kids.

If you are looking for a relaxing hotel break this is not it! Go to a spa hotel.

Room Tip: If you are paying full price demand a room with a sea view

We stayed in this hotel for our wedding anniversary, never again, we complained about our room, looking out onto a back wall, and what looked like a service entrance for deliveries. The window ledges were dusty and the windows were filthy, only to be told " we are on the beach front " but our room was to the back !! I found a pair of ladies stockings behind a chair, not mine, made us wonder if the room had been cleaned at all, totally unacceptable, We had to ask for sugar for the tea/coffe in the room, We were offered a room upgrade, But at a price, which we declined. It was take it or leave it, We stayed but only because we had already paid. The pool area was dirty with cracked tiles, the jaccuzzi did not work the sauna and steam rooms were very small, the changing rooms not very clean, I could go on and on. NEVER AGAIN,, Would NOT recommend this family run hotel to anyone

Room Tip: bring extra money for room upgrade

[Please note, we didn't stay at the hotel. We were so unhappy with the way we were treated we decided not to use a room that we had paid for]

Initially a booking was made at relatively short notice using a voucher purchased from Groupon. There was a mix-up with the dates by the hotel (on 2 occasions) & the when advised, their response was that we either pay a surplus (to keep our booking) or change dates. The alternative dates were unsuitable & inferior rooms offered so we declined these options. I suggested that we pay half the surplus, as although it was the hotel's mistake, this seemed reasonable. The hotel admitted their errors, but declined any concession. I feel they had an obligation to honour the booking as it was their error but they advised this was not the case. In the end I was simply told "you will find things work differently in a private hotel than a chain". Clearly. The worst customer service I have ever experienced.

The way that loyal customers are treated here is absolutely awful and I definitely wouldn't recommend this hotel or caravan site to anyone, ever, from a customer service perspective! Mrs Wallace, in particular, has obviously never quite grasped the concept of what keeps her family in business, or indeed what customer service actually is.
