“4 nights at O lar do Ouro”
Reviewed 29 April 2014

We have just returned from a Dolphin enountour trip to Ponta do Ouro.

Although the weather only permitted for one out of the three encounters we travelled from Johannesburg for - O Lar Do Ouro was a great place to stay - albeit far from the beach.
We have to hand it to Eben who runs the guest house with his partner Diana. He made out stay AWESOME! Helpful, warm and sharing of information about Ponta - he made it a holistic experience - which went some way to lighten our disappointment about the limited encounters which materialized. He was kind enough to transport us in the evenings to participate in the local social scenes. A great guesthouse - if a bit far from the beach. The hospitality makes up for it as does his generosity of spirit.

Room Tip: We stayed near opposite the pool - it was fine. There is no fitness centre or room service as its a...

What a fantastic stay we had, the hospitality by Eben and his crew, the excellent food and friendly
staff, not to mention the very comfortable beds. Wow, we stayed 5 nights and it was truly amazing. Thank you

We stayed one night at the guest house, and would have stayed two if the extremely loud mating frogs in the pool next to our room were not there, and if the hostess had showed minimum courtesy. She runs a dolphin tour company but we lost interest in that since she was the hostess of it. There was several conflicting informations about where to show up, no excuses for malinformation, no "good mornings" or "have a nice journey" or other normal things you expect from someone in the service business. The host however is the complete contrast: as good as they come, helpful in every way, friendly and courteous. The food is fair, the place in itself is basic but has a nice atmosphere. The wifi is slow. The location is too far from the beach.

Room Tip: Choos one away from the pool.

My husband and I stayed at the Guest Lodge in June. We were only there one night but we felt very welcomed. The owner was very knowledgeable about the area, and gave us very useful advice on things to do and places to eat. The rooms themselves are very basic (but as other guests have stated: clean and comfortable). However, the premises are beautiful and very inviting. Additionally, the breakfast was good. We would stay here again.

I have never come across such amazing hospitality, excellent service and with a smile all times.

I was travelling on my own and never felt lonely. The exterior and interior is just amazing. After a day in the sun just dropping, literally, into a clean "coolish" swimming pool was wonderful. The food was superb with that home away from home make dishes.

My stay at O Lar Do Ouro was in conjunction with Dolphin Encounters which was another experience of its own. Excellent 5 star swimming with Dolphins experience. In fact "Dolphins swimming with us" experience.

To Evan, Diada and the "CEO" baby Charlotte - thank you for a wonderful holiday and will be bad one day again with my family.

All the best for the Future with your beautiful Guest Lodge

We have stayed at many places in Ponto over the years. O Lar Do Ouro is a winner. Spent 4 nights here in April 2013. It is a little pool of tranquility in what can be a busy little holiday town. Lovely garden and pool, great lounge to chill on comfortable couches. Good food, friendly staff. Far enough from the centre of town, but not too far. Would not hesitate to stay here again. My only reservation was the bed i slept in - it creaked badly

This a a long established guest lodge and the owners are very experienced, well versed in the local area and Dolphin Encountours booked us in here when for our Swimming with Dolphins package. And we are so glad they did. Janice and Teri are warm and hospitable. The food was superb, plentiful and served with real graciousness. Our room was pretty basic, but it was clean and comfortable. We all slept well, partly due to our early starts on the water and the sun but also because O Lar do Ouro is restful place to be. My children were made welcome in the common lounge area and the garden and the pool. Plenty of magazinges and board games for the odd raiy hour. A lovely hideout to enjoy paradise for a very reasonable amount of money.
