Had an excellent meal at Agostinho's last night and will definitely be returning soon. The meal was excellent, mainly fresh local ingredients and a wonderful chef who cooks to perfection. Try the Caldo Verde soup - you wont be disappointed. The ambience was great and attentive service - thoroughly enjoyed it and all we could wish for in a meal out.

I was very disappointed with the food in this restaurant. The service was more about eating and paying and I did not feel special at all. The only thing that was special was the price. £85 for very average food. Mussels and Scallops to start. The mussels were bland and they hadn’t removed the unopened shells. The skewers were only tasty because the scallops were wrapped in ham. The main course was Veal escalope’s in a white wine sauce. Tiny piece of veal for £11.50. Side dishes were extra. £7.90 for a small portion of boiled cabbage, carrots and cauliflower cheese. The veal was tender and that was the only good part. Deserts were a Crème Brule, which you can’t get wrong and a meringue with strawberries and cream. The meringue was shop bought! Budvar was £3.50 per bottle and they have the cheek to add 10% to your bill for service. It should be the customer’s choice. The worst meal in ages and very over priced. I don’t mind spending money but I expect something in return. I will not be going back and would not recommend.

The warmth of the welcome and the comfort of the restaurant are a perfect beginning to a relaxed evening. There is a real interest in making sure that the food choices are explained and most importantly the food is freshly cooked.
I would thoroughly recommend Agostinhos. It may not have the trendier decor of some of the other venues in Leigh, but if it is good food you are interested in I would recommend you give it a try .

I went for a family meal in Agostinho's last weekend, really liked the 'family feel' and intimacy of the place and took me back to the 1980's growing up going to mainly Italian restaurants, unfortunately the food was very much stuck in the 80's regarding quality and taste. Duck for main was overcooked and fish a tad rubbery, subsequently at the end of the meal I mentioned that the food was ok but overcooked and lacking flavour, the matriarch of the place took great offense which then turned into something out of a farce from Faulty Towers but they kindly took money of the bill, also on the positive the wine list is extensive and very reasonably priced.

We hadn't been here for a while, but a birthday gave us the opportunity and its still the best cooking in Leigh! Everyone from the "young trendies" to my 91 year old Mum loved it- from Mussels to roast beef, it was all freshly cooked, delicious and generous portions. The set menu is excellent value (with delicious specials)and the welcoming staff even remembered my favourite Portuguese wine - Vinho Verde (the owner once brought a bottle from home for me when she knew stocks were low- nothing is too much trouble). 5* Thank you!
