We stayed at MWH in Axminster 2 nights, for we attended a wedding in the area. Besides being of very high standards, the place is full of a character. We (the two of us and our 15 monts daughter) simply loved it ! Thank you Tim and Ruth for your kind hospitality (best breakfast ever).

If you're heading to the River Cottage HQ and fancy being near the Axminster Canteen, rather than staying out on the Coast in Lyme Regis, then you'd be hard pressed to find a better place to stay than Mill Water House. Located perfectly, the house is a 10 minute walk or 2 minute drive from the River Cottage Canteen, and a 5 minute drive from the River Cottage HQ. Furthermore, it is less than a ten minute drive to the beautiful town of Lyme Regis and its famous fossil cliffs.

Tim and Ruth run their B&B with genuine warmth and the room we stayed in was spacious, bright, airy and clean. Fresh milk is provided for each room in a communal fridge, and instant coffee and an assortment of teas are provided. Breakfast was superb, with tea, coffee, cereal, juice and fruit available, followed by a cooked breakfast and toast. What makes the breakfast particularly note-worthy is the homemade muesli and fruit compote, the labelled, homemade jams and the self-evident quality of the produce in the cooked breakfast. Eggs are cooked how you want them, you can substitute or exclude whatever you like and porridge is available on request.

We had an absolutely lovely stay and, especially given the room rates, Mill Water House offers incredible value for money.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 1 and had a peek in the others. They're all wonderful, but Room 1 is definitel...

Like many others, we stayed at MWH whilst also sampling the food at River Cottage Canteen.
I have stayed at many B&Bs, this is one of the better one's. Excellent breakfast considering the reasonable price of a night's stay.

When we were staying they only took cash. Not sure if this is a permanent or temporary thing.

A very pleasant stay in Axminster.
We had a fabulous large room which was great as we had our 2 year daughter in a travel cot. the hosts were very friendly and accommodating. Supplying fresh milk and a variety of teas is great.
The house was super convenient to Axminster town centre.

Friendly welcome , warm comfortable large bedroom , home cooked breakfast & reasonably priced. Mill Water House is just 5 minutes to River Cottage HQ & 2 minutes to Axminster centre for River Cottage Canteen.Everything came together for a "smashing" weekend.

I can only endorse all the previous glowing reports of this delightful place. Tim and Ruth were extremely welcoming hosts. It was so interesting to hear about the history of the Mill and their involvement in it - a continual "business in progress" as Tim put it with regard to the changes to the place over the years. Two of the best nights sleep we have had for a long time having been used to living somewhere with a lot of road noise. Room was large and the fact that we had a sofa too made it a nice place to relax after a busy couple of days house hunting in the area. It was a freezing weekend outside but so cosy inside Water Mill House. Would like to return in the Summer to enjoy the garden.

Tim recommended a couple of local pubs - The Old Inn at Kilmington and the Tuckers Arms at Dalwood. We ate at the former on the Saturday night although would recommend booking for this place and anywhere else half decent at weekends. We had already tried the George at Chardstock only to find all tables reserved. Pubs in Axminster a bit disappointing - the Axminster Inn is the best of the bunch, especially if you are a real ale fan as I am, as they have a range of Palmers ales. Cinnamons Indian restaurant very good.

Will definitely return and highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

My wife and I stayed here over New Year, as we were booked into the River Cottage Canteen for the New Year celebrations (RCC is an easy walk of about 10 minutes from Mill Water House, which made it very convenient).
The house is located just off the A358 in a quiet spot down a private drive. It's an impressive building and the interior doesn't disappoint with great decor complemented by sculpture pieces and paintings. The welcome from Tim and Ruth set the tone - they made us feel at home straight away. Our en-suite room was spacious with quality furniture, TV and tea and coffee facilities.
Breakfast was good, with cereal, fresh fruit, juices, yoghurt and the "full english" was spot on (adapted for us, as vegetarians) with plenty of tea and toast to go with it.
Highly recommended and well priced.
