Owner description: A wildlife park set in the East Devon countryside

This wildlife is ever expanding and last year it received a zoo license meaning they are getting bigger and more exotic species now. There is plenty to see and do at this hidden attraction in Devon. Probably my favourite two species on display are the raccoon dogs and the leopard cats.

Although this park is still being extended it is a lovely place to visit and see some interesting animals. This was my second visit and there has been a lot of work done in the past year adding more enclosures and some interesting animals I haven't come across before. The small tea room sells some lovely cakes and is a lovely place to get a cuppa during your visit.

The first time we visited, last year in summer, we were pleasantly surprised, but on eagerly revisiting in early Spring the park didn't meet expectations. It may be because it was early in the season (no excuse though because the ticket price is the same!) but the park was scruffy, pens were mislabelled, and staff in shop more interested in chatting to friends than attending to visitors. Talking about how cheap they can buy in sandwiches, and how long the sell by date is (yuck) within ear shot of customers - not very professional or endearing. My impression was one of a park interested in maximum profit from visitors without much interest in customer service. The animals are cute and entertaining but the enclosures are small and not very interesting - visit Shaldon park to see how this should be done properly!

This is a very well presented and maintained wildlife park.

Lots of animals to see and lots of the birds like peacocks and chickens roam free and can be fed. Particular highlights are the larger animal padocks with wallabies, zebras and goats, meercats and large variety of birds.

The childrens play equipment could use some money spent on it and is starting to look old and worn out, which is in contrast to the excellent quality and matenence of the animal enclosures.

Its not huge but large enough to spend a couple of hours and have lunch.

NOTE: They do not take card payments so you will need cash to cover the entry fee of £7 for adults and £5 for kids over 3.

My children liked the Zebras, wallabies & meerkats the best. Lemurs also a hit.
Some enclosures seem far too small/shallow for some animals & birds especially the biggest crane, Harris hawk & the raccoons & its not that nice to see birds & animals pacing along their confines.
Some animals were hiding away & although some 'homes' had viewing windows not all of them did which was a shame.
Non reflective glass would also be a big improvement to the ease of viewing.
It wasn't very busy when we went & I can imagine the walkways may get crowded when its busier.
The children's play park is a nice additional feature & the staff were friendly.
While I appreciate it must take a lot of money to run & maintain the park I thought £7 per adult & £5 per child was a bit expensive for what it was.
