Spent a night at the Holiday Park before going on the Forgotten Highway Adventure. Very welcoming host. We had a campervan and a cabin for our party of 4. Good standard of accommodation and all facilities were of a high standard. A well equipped kitchen has a very nice shaded outdoor eating area and tubs of herbs that we were invited to use (and did). We left our campervan parked there for two nights connected to the power for a very reasonable charge. We also left our overnight bag (with medication in) sitting on a table. The very kind hosts took the bag to the Forgotten World Adventure office and it was sent down to us the next morning for which we were most grateful.

This place is convenient, and has all the amenities - kitchen, BBQ, showers, power, water, laundry (extra but much cheaper than in town), and dumping station. Everything is included in the price - so no surprises. The area is quite open so not much privacy.

We stayed two nights in the "Kiwi Cottage" (shown in the picture above) and it was very comfortable. The cottage was great, as it rained a fair bit while we were there and we were happy not to be in a tent!

We did the Timber Trail bike ride, so this was our base and it was perfect. Paul from Epic Cycle Adventures came to the camp, picked up our bikes, took a group to the top of the mountain and we made our way down (6+ hours). He then brought the bikes back to the camp. All very well organised and fun. A good outing if you are sort of fit and want to see some beautiful scenery.

Spent 2 nights here 1 before doing the Whanganui journey in a tent and one after in a cabin. I have stayed in hundreds of campsites over the years and this is one of the best.
Only bad point was no free wifi best touch was the free herb and veggy garden

Of all the places we stayed at during our campervan trip around the North Island in September 2012, this was definitely one of our favourites. It's nothing particularly special in it's location or facilities but there's a real charm about this place and we found it very welcoming and relaxing. It's by a pretty spot next to a river and a short drive into the town. The kids loved the resident pig, Julia, the chickens and the tyre swing. Bathroom facilities were spotless, as was the camp kitchen. The hosts were so friendly and even gave us some of their hens eggs for our breakfast. I would very happily return here again.

We stayed here yesterday. Good value for money. From the outside you can see paint peeling off and looks to be in a sorry state. Inside its got a musty smell. Bad things end here...

Great location, hosts are very friendly. We forgot to bring blankets and I wanted it for 2 people, Host gave us a whole lot of blankets, talk about customer service, they're up there.

Kitchen has it all, cutlery, microwave etc. The stove didn't work, but its no big deal we can still use the communal kitchen next door. I'm sure they'll get the stove fixed soon.

Comfy beds, and a comfy couch. Got heaters, you need it since the unit isnt draught proof!

Had a nice time overall. Nearby in a secret location you can see glow worms, ask at reception

Rocked up here over Easter weekend without a reservation but had no issues getting in. The english owner said they've never been full in tHe three years he's owned it. I don't know why. It's a lovely little site with free kayaks to amble along the neighbouring river.

Our pooch enjoyed the open space and befriending the pet goat! The owner's sweet dog was no trouble.

Each night they get a fire going for customers to socialise and tell good old fashioned campfire tales! Recommended.
