“Everything "ship-shape"!”

My wife had previously been here for lunch, and suggested trying it for a stay whilst investugating some business prospects. What a pleasant surprise and a delight. Very old historic hotel/building. Paid the bit extra for the Lady Hamilton room and what a view across the estuary and marshes. Even saw a juvenile Hen Harrier flying/hunting back and forth on the second morning (verified online via the local bid watch group). The food in the restaurant was great - steak first night & beef burger the second. One of the best, juciest, most succulent burgers I've ever had. Perfectly cooked! Breakfast fresh, plentiful, and very tasty. Lovely to sit on the outside front terrace at the end of the evening, watch the sun go down and finish the bottle of wine. ALL the staff were very helpful, courteous, friendly and helpful - Laura stands out for a little bit of extra praise. Will be back again.

We stayed here for two nights as my daughter had a reunion with old friends. It was at least 13 years since we had even visited the area, and I remembered The Ship being very noisy at weekends, full of youngsters having a good time! How a place can change, The Ship is now much more sedate! Still very busy, but all quiet by 11.30.
Our room was clean and more than adequate for the two of us, there were a couple of silly issues, like a loose toilet seat, I got a nasty nip from, and a window we had to wedge open, but nothing major.
The breakfast was at a decent time for a weekend, and very nice local ingredients. The staff were very helpful and pleasant and it was great to hear the local accent again, would definitely stay again.

Only stayed one night whilst attending a party and would be happy to stay again. Our room overlooked the car park but we could also see the estuary although to be honest a view is not our priority. The room was clean and a reasonable size as was the bathroom and there was plenty of hanging space. The breakfast was very good, part buffet style with waitress service for the main course and there was lots of choice with unlimited tea or coffee.
The only black mark was the state of the bedroom curtains which were only just hanging on to the rail by a few hooks!

Room Tip: There are no ground floor rooms and no lift which could be a problem for those with limited mobility...

Overall our stay was OK, most if the staff were friendly, and the breakfasts were lovely. However, our room was very, very hot and when asked if we had slept well we mentioned the temperature, only to be told "It's an old building, the water pipes go through the rooms". No offer of a cooler room, or fan or anything. We had booked for six nights, so thought there may be something that could be done. The view from our room, and I would guess from quite a few of them was of a wall about 10 feet away. Our room was in the second floor, and the stairs up from the first floor were very steep and had narrow treads, which we found quite difficult, especially with the suitcase. Room 32 was smallish, but arranged quite well, no wardrobe but a good 'hanging' system instead which saved space. The bathroom was great. I'm not sure we would stay again, but if we did it would only be if we could have one of the four rooms at the front of the building.

Room Tip: Try to book a room at the front of the hotel if you want a view.

Just got back from staying at the Ship for 2 nights Sun to Tue. We travelled as our son was playing a cricket finals day at the local neston cc. Two families stayed at the Ship it was wonderful, the place was beautiful, rooms lovely and clean nice fluffy towels , friendly staff and very helpful . Meals in restaurant was spot on and not over priced ate there both nights. Breakfast was good too plenty of choice . Lovely place and town and a ice cream parlour next door which the boys enjoyed to celebrate winning. Fancy a nice weekend away then I would recommend and not far from Liverpool and Chester too.

Wasn't expecting anything great when a friend took us here for lunch. What a total surprise, huge portions of excellent home cooked food. Would definitely visit again maybe even stay as they have some fantastic deals at bargain prices. Highly recommend

Just got back from a nights stay at the Ship Hotel. Arrived yesterday morning in Parkgate. It was a little tired and quiet on a sunny Saturday morning . The staff were very pleasant and although we could not have our room due to being early they offered us a place to leave our luggage as we were going to a family function. The immediate impression was that the area was a little tired and in need of some upgrading. The hotel itself was clean and nicely decorated. The views were beautiful. We went off to our family get together and returned in the evening. The whole atmosphere of Parkgate had changed. Lots of people were out for the evening and family's were finishing their days out with ice creams and a stroll along the waters edge. We had arranged to eat elsewhere as we were meeting family but wished we were staying as the food being served looked and smelled gorgeous. Our room was very nicely decorated with crisp white bed linen ,flat screen television, tea and coffee ,biscuits and hot chocolate. There were good lights and plenty of mirrors including a full length one which isn't always the case and was much appreciated. The bathroom had a shower and plenty of good quality and ample sized towels, a none slip mat, heated towel rail and complimentary toiletries. The shower wasn't very powerful but was not a problem. There was good info provided about the hotel services and surrounding areas. The bed was exceptionally comfortable and the area was quiet even though we had the window open due to the hot weather. Now for the highlight the breakfast what a choice. Starters including american pancakes and pancetta, salmon,Kippers and smoked mackerel. Fantastic coffee and tea unlimited,a vegetarian full English as well as the usual full English. a choice of breakfast sandwiches and eggs every way you may think of. I am gluten Intolerant and Lactose intolerant . I had informed them before hand and they had sourced both bread and milk so that I could enjoy my breakfast along with everyone else. The service was excellent ,friendly and swift but relaxed. The usual cereals were available and porridge, fruit juices and conserves plus unlimited toast.A lot of the items were sourced locally and a local butcher was used and you could taste the difference. All in all I would highly recommend the Ship Hotel

Room Tip: The side rooms do not have good views just of the buildings which are being refurbished next door or...
