We stayed for 11 days and had an amazing time. The complex is situated out of town just a stone's throw from the beach- one of the only sandy beaches on the island. The rooms are quite adequate, nice size with great balconies over looking the sea, the only draw back are the showers -not great and leaky. The pool is great with lovely people working there but best of all is the restaurant, amazing fresh fish and lovely staff. We quite often had dinner on our balcony, filling up on supplies in Argostoli(cheaper there) and using the hob- perfectly adequately. The only big drawback is the flightpath, quite a shock when you first hear it! but there aren't too many flights although the 6.30 am flight form Athens will be your morning wake up call

Room Tip: Upstairs to have better sea view

Ammes Apartments is a fantastic resort with a lovely pool, spacious rooms, fantastic staff and local amenities nearby.

I visited Kefalonia with a friend for a cheap getaway before summer. It was fantastic. It has brilliant beaches, boat excursions departing daily from Agostoli, shops and restaurants in nearby towns, tourist attractions such as the Caves on the east of the Island and friendly locals.

Ammes Apartments is brilliant. The rooms are clean and offered a brilliant view of the sea (we stayed in Number 3). There is a maid who comes in daily, a TV with Greek stations, hairdryer, balcony or terrace, showering facilities and a small kitchenette.

Isabella who attends the pool bar is fantastic- really friendly and cannot do enough for you. She honestly made the holiday one to remember. George is also brilliant, with every visit to the pool being a good one - he also cooks a brilliant BBQ!

Isabella's cocktails are a must try! She has a large menu of different cocktails all for 6.50 euros and some specialities for 7.50 euros. My favourite was the Long Island Iced Tea, but all of them were as good as the last. They are much cheaper than anywhere in Agostoli, and are much nicer! She also makes a fantastic baguettes and pizzas.

The planes landing at the nearby airport are no problem. The sound lasts for 10 seconds, and is more of a thrill than a nuisance. We were never woken by the planes, nor did they cause us any other trouble.

Overall I will be returning to Ammes for another visit. I cannot recommend it enough! Well done Ammes!

Room Tip: Block L offers sea views.

I must confess I felt slightly underwhelmed when I arrived at Ammes. We'd only booked a couple of days earlier in search of some sun. The taxi ride from the airport took less than 5 minutes but set us back 15 euros - not a great start. We were shown our room which was fairly basic. We'd opted for B&B, but the 'kitchen' area appeared more or less redundant.
HOWEVER, the room was spacious and spotlessly clean and we had a sea view from the balcony. We met Fondas almost immediately, I think it's fair to say he is probably the heartbeat of the place. Nothing was ever too much trouble for either him or Sharon. He told us everything we needed to know and packed us off to the beach with a complimentary bottle of water.
If you're thinking of self catering..don't bother! We ate at the restaurant the first 3 nights. Really good fresh fish from the ever changing specials, and very reasonably priced. A lovely place to sit and watch the sun go down.
The beach is only a couple of hundred yards away and is a beautiful sandy beach, which is also safe for swimming. Sun beds currently 6 euros for a pair for the day. The chap who runs the beds also has the 'Tropicana' beach cafe at the entrance. A bit like Ammes, doesn't look much, but provides everything you need at a great place.
There isn't much else in the area, but you don't need much else. There is a mini market a couple of minuted walk away and the car hire next door to that.
We hired a car for 3 days which I think is a must, if only because Kefalonia has so much to offer, it would be a crime to go all that way and not experience it.
It would be fair to say we grew to really love the place. Yes the planes do fly low over the beach and apartments, but they're not that frequent and added a certain something you wouldn't normally get. Ammes is a no frills kind of place that could be easily improved cosmetically, but it provides everything you need and at a great price. But it's the people that make it what it is and why some many people go back time after time. If it ain't broke........

We have been visiting Ammes Apartments for the past twenty years and have just returned from a six week stay. It is situated in the most beautiful setting you could ever wish for. When you open your bedroom shutters and look out over the sparkling sea and blue sky, you feel a sense of complete peace.
This family run hotel has everything you could wish for. The apartments are basic but spotlessly clean. There is a beautiful pool and pool bar presided over by son George and Izabella who makes pizzas to die for! Fondas and Sharon run the O Mylos restaurant and I defy anyone to get a better meal or better value for money. Sitting there at night watching the sun go down over the headland is something very special. The real star of Ammes is five year old Marilena who is not only beautiful but as bright as a button!
Nikitas and his wife Mary run the booking part of the business with Mary also making amazing Greek dishes like Beef Stiffado for the restaurant.
The situation of Ammes is amazing. There are miles and miles of wonderful walks, small beaches to explore, interesting Greek villages like Svoronata and Salata and an airport only a mile or so away. The whole island is so beautiful that you have to hire a car and see cosmopolitan Fiskado, Assos a little place to die for, the most beautiful beach in the World - Myrtos, spectacular mountain ranges, the capital Argostoli with its stylish shops and restaurants.Pretty seaside places like Scala, Poros,Lourdata and Sami are a short car ride away. There are great boat trips from Argostoli to other islands like Ithaka and Zante. But the jewel in the crown of Kefallonia is Ammes. Whether you want to eat wonderful fresh food (the fish is to die for) in the restaurant, drink until the early hours in the pool bar, laze on the plentiful sun loungers, walk for miles, smelling the fresh herbs growing by the roadside, see brightly coloured butterflies, oranges, lemons and limes for the picking and just breathe in the fresh unpolluted air and meet a really nice Greek family who love their home as much as you will - you have to book a holiday at this very special place.(email for availability of dates on ammes@otenet.gr. Nikitas will love to hear from you! You can then book a flight from most UK airports. See you next year - mines an ice cold Amstel!!!

We have stayed in Ames in June 2013. Room was huge, clean with breath-taking views. Staff was so friendly that they made us feel we were the only guests there. Food in restaurant was amazing, we had a half board, we always had 3-course meal, we were so full we could not move. I would highly recommend, especially for couples, families it is an ideal place. We would definitely go back again. Neil and Dana

I have been to Kefalonia 5 times and Ammes apartments in the beautiful village of Svoronata is not only my favourite place on the island, but is my favourite place in the whole of the world..
Nick, the owner is a great guy and all the bar and restaurant/tavern staff are exceptionally friendly. Also a special mention to 'thundres' the manager of the restaurant/tavern who made us feel pleasantly welcome and looked after us the whole time of our 2 week stay.
The rooms are spacious and very clean, what more could you want for such a relaxing holiday. The resort itself is very tidy but typical Greece!
Nearby beach is Ammes beach (2 min walk) is a MUST GO EVERY DAY and offers great sand and beautiful clear water. This is also my favourite beach in the world which gives great memories.
About 6-8 Euro's for sunbeds.
Here, you are out of touch with everything a little so a car is recommended. Great thing though, you are 2 minutes away from the airport and can see the runway from Ammes apartments. Planes fly right over the beach not so often which is great to see.
Ammes restaurant/tavern also has daily fresh fish specials on offer and also some great nearby taverns and supermarkets about including 'Avithos' taverna.
We WILL be returning again soon hopefully after we have explored tiny Ionian island of Paxos.

We went to Ammes at the end of April and had the best holiday ever. It is a very relaxing place, and less than 5 minutes walk from the nearest beach which has soft sand and clear water. A few tavernas within walking distance, but if you want to see the island you definitely need to hire a car. It's not too expensive and the scenery is beautiful on the journey anyway! I really loved Melissani Lake - it's underground and you get in to a boat to go around it, it's worth the trip there. Also worth driving up the biggest mountain, takes a couple of hours but the view from the top is stunning and it's totally silent as well. The apartment itself was very spacious, clean, good bathroom, and lovely balcony overlooking the sea. Sunsets are so pretty and you get a great view from the balcony too. The pool bar is brilliant - Isabella who works there is truly a gem and pretty much made our holiday. She's super friendly, cannot do enough for you, and stayed up chatting with me until 4am one night, even though she had to get up early in the morning to prepare our leaving barbecue :) Also she makes the best pizza I have ever had in my life with handmade dough, you must try it. All in all, I can't find any faults and I'm quite a fussy person when it comes to hotels/restaurants usually, so that shows how good this place is. And you can't beat the price either. Book now and have a lovely holiday!

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the first floor if you can - you'll get a better view from the balcony of t...
