If you're looking for a quite, sunny getaway this is definitely worth a visit.

Pool: immaculately kept, plenty of sun beds

Food: not the best we'd eaten but absolutely fine- and there are lots of wonderful restaurants within a 15 minute drive.

Staff: attentive, friendly, helpful

Rooms: perfectly kept, housekeeping in every day, modern, spacious, equipped with kitchenette, sea views, lovely little balcony, big shower room.

Facilities: gym- small but fine, table tennis, pool, board games all available. Didn't use the spa but it looked quite small- but sure it did the job!

Overall we can't wait to go back- left feeling relaxed, happy, well fed, tanned and rested...

Room Tip: Don't be worried if you don't get a sea view room- the hotel is situated in beautiful green rolling hills so you'll almost certainly have something lovely to look at! The beds are quite firm so if that's not to your taste take a softer pillow with you on your travels.

Eleven nights b&b at the Astra was just what the doctor ordered, Poppy on reception and then Sylwia behind the bar tendered friendly greetings, and a little over an hour after landing we were paddling in the sea. The apartment was very clean and quite spacious in comparison with others we have stayed in, and the bathroom was very much the surprise star of the show. Amazing what a hook to hang the shower head on can do for a holiday! Towels and bedding were clean and changed every three or four days. The kitchenette fit snugly behind the large cupboard doors and contained an electric hotplate and extractor, fridge and sink. And a kettle.

We had read mixed reviews of the food but arrived with an open mind. We had a pizza and a salad for lunch which was perfectly acceptable. On one evening we ate pizza again, which was freshly cooked and delicious, but we were the only people eating in the restaurant. Breakfast, on the other hand, was attended by all and sundry, even the staff ate there, which was quite a good sign. Usual continental fare plus a variety of warm stuff, scrambled eggs/fried eggs/bacon/Greek village sausage/spinach pie/etc. This was a nice experience, usually accompanied by a chat with Sylwia and Anna ("Laydee!!"). Although staffed by fun and friendly people, the bar area was usually quiet. We noticed after a few days that this may have been due to the prices which were 1-2.5 euros more expensive than every other place we ate at or drank in.

The quality of the apartment and the food, together with its proximity to the beach, meant that we very much enjoyed our stay at the Astra. The gardens are very well kept too, a couple of guys tend to them and any maintenance throughout the day. There is much local wildlife, most notably the swallows which were great fun to watch and listen to.

Between the apartment and the beach there were a couple of collie crosses. As we have a collie at home it was a wrench to see these two living off the bins, so we fed them whenever we saw them. By day three they had begun to wait for us at the bottom of the steps every morning, and we were worried that we may upset the hotel staff, but there was no problem, the dogs seemed to be tolerated by all. The black one is a little shy around men but the orangey-brown one was a superstar, he was bags of fun. They had good teeth so they can't be very old. Both dogs enjoyed the pasta and spam we bought from the supermarket opposite Astra, and we managed to get a doggy bag from all the restaurants we ate at. Please feed them if you see them, they are awfully grateful for food!

We ate at Milos restaurant the most, this was about ten minutes walk away. Friendly welcome and fresh food. Fois is perhaps 20-25 minutes away, and well worth the trek past the Irina Hotel. Sotiris studios had a good menu and was always busy, and the cafe at the entrance to the beach, Tropicana, was the cheapest place to get lunch and beer.

We would return to the Astra in the future, however we would almost certainly rent a car as well. Having spent 70 euros on taxis during this trip it would only have been another 30 to get a small car for a week. Other than sunbathing, playing with stray dogs, watching planes land and eating there isn't that much to do in this particular corner of Kefalonia (which was absolutely enough for us!) so bear this in mind if you plan to visit Svoronata.

Room Tip: All rooms good. Some have 20 or so steps though

My wife and I busted kefalonia for the first time in June 2014 and was very impressed with the standard of service and friendliness from everyone at the Astra. Irene the manager was very helpful advising on the best restaurants to dune out in the evening although the food served at the Astra was brilliant, we went B&B. The local beaches are beautiful with excellent facilities however the nearest large town is 10 miles from the resort so a car is a must and the best most competitive company are opposite the resort. Highly recommended

We have just returned from a 2 week half board stay at this wonderful Hotel. Prior to arrival I emailed asking about the cost of a taxi from the airport. Irene replied with all the detail and sure enough as we exited the arrival hall a taxi driver was stood there displaying my name and 10 mins later we were at the hotel. Brilliant. We were greeted by Poppy on reception greeted us in a very professional way and Nothing was too much trouble for her fantastic service - this continued throughout our stay. She is a real asset to the hotel. Poppy even organised our quad bike hire and the service from the guys at Rent a Bike in Lassi was great delivered and collected and gave us a choice of 2 Kymco quads one 250cc and one 300cc. We went with the 250 which was more than adequate. Dinner as part of our half board was a set menu which was good for our taste most nights, alternatives were always available if we asked. During the second week a buffet style dinner was available and this was VERY pleasant. The waitresses in the evening Alda and Jenny once again made the dining experience very enjoyable and you could not wish for more helpful or attentive staff. Breakfast was fantastic, if anything too much choice. The waitress at breakfast was always very very cheerful and always had a friendly welcome for everybody. We enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere in the pool bar on a few afternoons and evenings and Silvia and Alex once again attended to our every need.
We were in block 3 on the first floor and the standard of cleanliness was excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Kefalonia and would recommend this hotel as a place to stay and from where you can explore the island. the trip to Ithaca arranged by the Hotel with Etam Tours was worth every penny and should not be missed. THANK YOU ALL

We have just returned from a week in the Astra Village in Svoronata and it was a lovely relaxing break.
We arrived at night and for some reason the lighting around the complex was nearly non existent and we had a job to find our apartment but we got there eventually, it was a one off as after that everywhere was well lit.
On the first morning we got the time wrong thinking it was one hour ahead but it's two, so we missed our breakfast and we do think the Hotel could of provided us with something as we had paid for it, which left us to buy our breakfast from the local supermarket.
The food for the first 5 nights was a set menu on half board( buffet breakfast) and although the main course was good quality a bowl of lettuce one evening a bowl of beetroot another and coleslaw as a starter wasn't the most palatable especially when you have a 5 year old daughter!
We have got through the negatives now for the positives, and there's lots of them!
It's the first time we have been to Greece without getting bitten once by a mosquito although we were told it was probably the windy weather that kept them at bay.

After 5 nights the Hotel became busier and suddenly went over to buffet dinner and apart from the food not being kept hot the selection was absolutely fantastic and we really enjoyed it.
The breakfast with yogurt, dried fruit, fresh fruit and nuts, omelette and other delicacies the breakfasts were the best we have ever had.
The staff were always polite and helpful and always made sure there was enough to eat and would soon whip up another omelette if needed.
I cannot understand why they do not have buffet dinner all the time as I am sure it would increase there bookings, we would only go again if it was buffet.
The drinks were reasonably priced with a few exceptions and cheaper than we have paid in spain. Three giant cornettos set us back at around £6 whereas in Spain it was costing us £10 two years ago!
The rooms were set in blocks of 4 and were cleaned to an exceptional standard with a lovely kitchen set into what looks like a wardrobe and a brilliant design. It had a kettle, pots and pans a fridge and cutlery. The bathroom was first class with hand soap and shower gel and hairdryer. There was even sanitising gel to clean the toilet seat in the public toilets.
The cleanliness and hygiene was outstanding and really showed up the disgusting toilets you find in the uk.
The supermarket across the road was where we got provisions for our fridge and they were very friendly. The lady in the Astra shop at the Hotel we found not so good as she followed every move you made thinking were going to steal something, I know it maybe a problem for them but she hovers over you like a hawk.!
i hope the Hotel addresses the few negatives as although it seems like we are complaining the negatives are simple to sort out as overall the hotel and complex are absolutely fantastic.
If you want a nice quiet holiday with lovely people and near to a gorgeous beach this is for you.
The planes landing so close by made we feel the holiday even more exciting.
It is not for night clubbers as there are no clubs and discos, it is for pure peace and tranquility
and stunning scenery.
Thanks Hotel Astra for a real great holiday and as soon as the meals go all buffet we will be back.
