Our first impression was to turn the car around and go home due to what looked like an under-age bar behind the hotel. We decided to give it a chance but not sure we would go again.

Good Points:
The staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for us - the food was good and the portions generous.

Bad Points:
The room was OK. Felt it wasn't worth what we paid. We were shocked when we found out the rooms had been refurbished as we felt ours was dated and a bit grubby in places.

The fire exit was through a bedroom and our room was connected to what appeared to be a communal toilet - we heard several people using the bathroom due to an inch wide gap in the connecting door.

Verdict:
All in all, a good effort but a long way to go.

Julie and Tim went above and beyond for us under very difficult circumstances. The rooms were comfortable, I would recommend them to anyone who wants to be in the area. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Julie's homemade soup was wonderful. I definitely would stay there again. Barbara from Ontario, Canada

We are sorry the stay did not live up to your expectations - especially that you felt the room was grubby. We do have discos or karaoke every friday night as we are one of the few sources of entertainment in Bungay and the surrounding area - however we do ensure all attendees are at least 18 and that they are well behaved. We are aware of the issue of noise from the duty manager's flat toilet in the room and have taken steps to make sure this does not disturb guests.

A group of us had booked so that we could attend a school reunion, and I want to say thanks to Tim and Julie for the work that you put in to make us welcome.

I had a single room on the top floor (The Billy Moss room), and although the carpet and furniture could do with replacing sometime soon, the room was spotlessly clean - it couldn't be faulted, not a spec of dust or grime anywhere. I would have liked to have had a towel rail for the shower too. My bed was very comfortable and I would have been very happy to sleep there for another night - not always the case with hotel beds.

There was a good welcome pack in the room - perhaps the addition of a pen would be helpful for guests to fill in their breakfast order form and guest feedback questionnaire? Since the rooms also have individual names, perhaps add a sheet to the pack explaining who the characters that the rooms are named after?

The food was great (lunch and breakfast); although the lunch menu is a little limited it is good quality. Plenty of choice for breakfast, and well cooked. To get to the nit-picking detail, a good butcher's sausage would have made the breakfast even better, but what was provided was perfectly acceptable as fas as I was concerned.

If I am in town again, I would be more than happy to stay there again and I'm happy to recommend this to anyone looking for excellent value accommodation. Tim and Julie have only been there since Nov 2010, and anyone reading reviews really ought to disregard anything written before then.

Thank you for your kind comments. The ideas about a pen and background on the name of each room have been taken on board as have another guests comments about bottled water in each room. We are glad you enjoyed the stay and hope to see you again at the next reunion.

Our room was clean, tidy & spacious. Jules and TIm were fantastic hosts and even gave us a bottle of bubbly to celebrate our first anniversary which was totally unexpected but very thoughtful and very much appreciated. They really did go over and above to ensure our stay was as enjoyable as possible.
The bar meal was very tasty, very reasonably priced and of good portion size. Breakfast lived up to expectations, again being of good portion size, excellent quality and with properly poached eggs!
All the staff were very friendly, helpful and welcoming. Looking forward to our next visit.

We had a lovely 1 night stay here, our room was very nicely decorated, all bright white linen, and clean bathroom - the hosts were really friendly and we had a long chat in the bar - the bar food was great - Jules' sticky toffee tart was dreamy - but very deadly if you're trying to loose weight! We were quite miffed we'd eaten at the function we'd attended that night - could have had a lovely meal at the bar - I know that this hotel has had bad ratings, but I think this couple are really doing their best to turn it around - we will definitely stay here again - I hope they go from strength to strength and that they have great success with the Kings Head and the Queens Jules!!!

Room Tip: Very central, easy to find

We stayed at this hotel whilst visiting family.
The owners Tim & Jules were fantastic, friendly and hardworking. I had read reviews dated before November when they took over and was somewhat unsure as to what we would find. I have to say that it does not sound like the same place. As said Jules and Tim are friendly, helpful and work really hard. The room was spotlessly clean and the breakfast was lovely. It is a very old building and they are improving it as fast as they can.
They made our stay fun and enjoyable and really can't do enough for you. If I could think of any suggestions to make it even nicer, it would be maybe to have a bottle of still water in the room as we forgot to take up water and as the building is so old we were reluctant to drink water from the bathroom tap as unsure if it was mains water.
We would definitely stay again and wish them all the best as they deserve to do well.
