We booked an apartment as we are a family of four, two adults with two teenage children. The apartment suited our needs and we were very comfortable and were able to cook and eat our meals in the apartment. The apartment was clean and quite well appointed. The location was in a beautiful area with easy access to other French towns. The garden, pool and tennis court are well looked after and made it very enjoyable for the family. The staff were friendly and the breakfast was fresh and delicious.

I have rated this hotel as a 4, but really put it around 3.505 and rounded up. This is such a hard review to write because of the very mixed feelings I have about the property. First and foremost, the owners are warm, attentive and very helpful. This really is what elevated the note I gave. I'll separate this review into what I liked and what could be improved/one should be aware.
As I said, the owners are great and the main building, which was purpose built, that houses roughly 6 rooms and the breakfast area is spotless. The small bathroom had a modern water temperature control. I prefer to have a sink in the toilet room and not have to leave the toilet room to wash my hands, but this often happens in Europe. The grounds are nice with a shaded area for sitting and a lovely pool area. They even have a tennis court which is impressive for such a small property. There is a security gate for the building, but not for the parking lot (you must have a car if you are here as taxi or other arrangements to see the area are impractical). If you fear driving in the area at night, they will provide dinner for 30 euros. The breakfast is abundant as far as breads, yogurt, fruit and packaged cheese. I was not offered and did not ask for either a hot breakfast nor meats. Thus, for its type it was a very good offering, but not superlative as others have claimed. There is a lot of breads, but little diversity beyond that.
On the down side, I rented the least expensive room here because I knew my wife would return to the US after the first night and I didn't see the wisdom of spending 30 or 60 euros more per night when I was alone. This meant we had one of the upstairs, small rooms. Our first disappointment was that we could not control the temperature in the room. We thought there was air conditioning but after a discussion with the owner learned that there is not air conditioning in the way I would define it (either individual units or a central using a compressor that generates cold air). Instead, they have piped cooling for the entire building. This also serves as heating in the winter. While we have such heating in our home in Michigan (which works very well), for air cooling the system is inadequate. On a 90+ day in Provence, such a system is overwhelmed. Fortunately, we asked for a fan and Nathaly found one for us. When we went to bed at 11:30pm, the room was still 81F (my wife has a thermometer on her travel clock). Without the fan, sleeping would have been impossible. The other issue with the room is that it did not have "double exposition" meaning a way for air to flow through the room to cool it. Thus, we had to go downstairs and open a door and leave the door to our room open to get some fresh air. Not optimal and certainly one can't do this while sleeping. Even after this, the room was still 81F. All this was exacerbated by the room having a small, classic french bed. Two people can sleep on it, but this is not 5-star luxury as previous reviews implied. This is especially true when it is hot, as there is no place to move in order to find a cool spot on the sheets. As a single in the room afterwards, with a fan, it was tolerable. I had the occasion to see one of the larger rooms downstairs and this would be nice for a family or two sets of young couples. Many of my complaints above might have been resolved in this room. Having said this, to rate this as 5-star is adding a Provence bonus to the property. As a Gites, it is top end, but as a lodging more generally, less so.
Regarding getting here, the owners would do themselves a favor if they put a plan on the website on how to get here. The hotel is not on the D60A, but on a dirt road that comes off of the D60A at kilometer marking 4. The signage for the hotel from the roadways (other than within a few hundred meters of the hotel) is non-existent, which also does not help. All of this is a pity as it is really very easy to find. If coming from Aix on the A51, get off at Bouc Bel Air, drive down the D8 and at the first round about after the Paul Boulangerie turn right. It is a right about a kilometer or so down the D60A. If coming from Marseille or the airport, get off the A51 at Cabries, go north until the roundabout with the D60A and turn left. Alternatively, if you come from San Remy through the Carmargue as we did, you can take the D543 just past the roundabout with the statue of the goat, turn let onto D60A and go about 3 km until you turn left. Be careful driving down the dirt road as there are many ruts, marked by cones, that make you slow down to less than 5km/hr unless you want to bottom out the car.

In summary, if you come here with a family or as a couple in the summer and take one of the larger rooms with airflow, you should have a nice experience, especially if you want to swim or play tennis. If as a couple you decide to take the smaller room, pray for a cooling stretch, otherwise your relationship will be put to the test. Honestly, had they not had a fan, I would have switched accommodations the next day, even if I had to pay for the other nights as the room never cooled down, even when it was cool outside. Having said this, the owners really are very nice and helpful and you are in Provence, so life can't be too bad. Of course, I have stayed at far more comfortable properties in the Gites style in Provence (e.g., mas de figues near San Remy) so I cannot give it top note.

La Milane II is everything one dreams about when planning a trip to Provence: restful, sun-drenched, languid comforts. La Milane is deep in Provençal countryside, yet quite close to Aix. The guesthouse is quite new, but built period sympathetic to the original maison already on the property. Everything from linens to the bedroom to the bathroom were perfectly pristine. Light breezes blow through windows and terrace doors. The gorgeous pool beckons from just beyond the fountain and rose garden. Breakfast is an utter delight. The proprietor and staff are lovely, genuine people. We hated to leave.

This B&B is a new construction on the family estate in the countryside near the village of Cabries. The owners were very thoughtful and provided a beautiful breakfast. Very quiet and restful on lovely grounds.
