“A nice hotel strategically and beautifully situated”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 July 2013

In northern Scandinavia good hotels are not easily found outside the larger towns as Sundsvall, Umeå, Luleå, Bodø, Tromsø and a few others. If you take the inland E45 through Lappland this is particularly true. One of those few good hotels is the hotel Wilhelmina, situated in Vilhelmina, a small town with around 4000 inhabitants. The situation is very convenient for the car tourist; about 500 km south of Kiruna and around 300 km north of Østersund. For our regular travels between central and northern Norway this road is the most convenient; we have stayed here twice, and will do so again, space allowing.

The rooms are adequate, even if the bathrooms are rather spartan. The hotel has a a good restaurant, (with comparatively high prices) and a bistro in the adjacent room. The breakfast was nothing out of the ordinary, but good enough. There is free overnight parking. The hotel is, as you will have seen from previous reviews, situated above the lake Volgsjøn, and the view is beautiful. On a good summers day you can enjoy it from the restaurant terrace.

The price was reasonable, around SEK 1000 (USD 200) for a double room.

This is a nice hotel with comfortable rooms, all with a fine view of Lake Volgsjön. The staff were friendly. While not lavish, breakfast was adequate.

The hotel is a short uphill walk from the Inlandsbanan station, and the 45 bus (the long distance bus to Østersund and Gällivare) stops outside, so this is therefore a good place to stay for those visiting with or without a car.

With a limited choice of places to eat in the small town of Vilhemina, we ate in the hotel on both nights of our stay; both food and service were good and the dining room and adjacent terrace also face the lake.

This was our second stop on our way up north on the Inlandsbanan. We left totally refreshed and pleasantly surprised. The hotel overlooks a beautiful expanse of water and green trees. Make sure it the weather is fine that you breakfast/dinner on their terrace. The food is top notch. Also bring your swimmers and bubble away while looking a wall of glass directly over the above view. After which nip into the sauna and look out of the wall of glass at the above view. Later get a beer and play pool in the games room. The room is average but comfortable. Tip: the showers by the jacuzzi and sauna are much nicer than in the room.

Vilhelmina itself is very small and you will see everything in about an afternoon. There is a really nice bakery and a few shops. The main attraction is the church and the old houses. There is a great Sami artist on that street.

Nice and comfortable hotel. Lovely jacuzzi and sauna with huge glass windows out onto the lake. Good food in the restaurant. Must be the best in wilhelmina. Near to the oldest street and not far from the church. pleasant staff.

This was a great spot to stop at on the way down from the North cape. The rom was nice, the bathroom OK, the rates excellent and the staff friendly. It even had a flat screen TV!
The bed was good too.

The hotel is spelt Wilhelmina but generally the town is called Vilhelmina.

Spent many nights at this hotel over the years, ask for a room overlooking the lake (frozen in winter) and it's a nice place to relax. Breakfast is typical Swedish fayre and the restaurant is ok but I've never seen it very busy, the bar, like any other here, is expensive.

The "town" itself is very small but is the largest for miles, driving North in the winter from here other cars tend to be few and far between and if you hire a snowmobile it's quite likely you won't see anyone else at all once off the main drag.
