“Marvellous holiday home, ideal for relaxing getaway”
Reviewed 26 February 2013 for a stay in February 2013

Ellis Lodge offers excellent accommodation, conveniently located in the Forest of Dean. The modern interior is sleek and stylish and the thoughtful attention to detail ensured we had a really comfortable stay. Beautiful woodland walks straight from the front door and the stunning scenery at Symonds Yat a short car journey away. There's plenty to do in the vicinity if you want to - or simply enjoy relaxing in first class surroundings!

We look forward to a return visit.

“When can I go back!!!”
Reviewed 26 February 2013 for a stay in February 2013

What a fantastic place, walking through the door you instantly relax, everything is there from the "Senseo" coffee machine to the logs for the wood burner....... sit back relax and chill..... sky movies on tap and just outside is the forest of dean less than 20 seconds walk away.....

We had a great time and an excellent stay in "Ellis Lodge" and will be going back as soon as possible, the house is spotless and everything is of good quality. Eco friendly you can do your bit as well, underfloor heating and very well insulated and super cosy .

We arranged for our food to be delivered by Waitrose just down the road in Monmouth which was perfect.

Dean Heritage Center is a must especially if you have younger ones for the Gruffalo trail... We also had a lovely walk around Symonds Yat just 2 miles down the road. Recommend the local ales and the pork belly at the "Saracens Head" (http://saracensheadinn.co.uk/) by the river.

“Absolutely beautiful Holiday Home”
Reviewed 18 February 2013 for a stay in January 2013

Brilliant Communication from Graham and Carol.

Spotless and warm Holiday Rental, everything was perfect from the kitchen to the bathrooms and the wood burner is an excellent addition for the cold winter nights.

I would reccomend this to anyone we had a fantastic time

Management Response
20 Jan 2013
Thank you for a Great Review, Our property manager Jacky is great, knows the area very well and is a mine of local information. We also love the walks to Symonds Yat and Yat Rock, a great walk to King Arthur's Cave, a walk we particularly like is what we call the 4 Rocks walk, the Long Stone, Harkening Rock, The Suck Stone and The Buck Stone. We also like to walk through the forest down to the river Wye and into Monmouth, after something to eat and drink, we some times take the option of a Bus back to Coleford. I will look to document these on the web site.

As we say on the ellislodge.co.uk web site dinnerware mainly consists of Royal Worcester, Denby and Wedgwood. The redevelopment of Ellis Lodge was focused on providing outstanding facilities for couples (though families are more than welcome (we raised two fantastic children there :¬) )) with the 3 bedroom being doubles with En-Suite and King size beds, though as per your request for a decorated Christmas Tree we would have been happy to supply a few plastic items if you had requested, please feel free to do so when book again.
As well as the high quality food chains, the Forest of Dean and area has a wealth of local high quality food producers, including Crooked End Farm for organic produce, the Severn and Wye Smokery, which is not only a great place for fish lovers, also has an amazing selection of locally produced products. If you like cider a must is a visit to the Westerns Cider house at Much Marcle, where as well as tasting some great real ciders, you can tour the cider making facility as well as have a high quality meal in their on site bistro.

“We had a lovely time at Ellis Lodge and our only wish was that we’d booked for a whole week!”
Reviewed 5 November 2012 for a stay in October 2012

We had a lovely time at Ellis Lodge and our only wish was that we’d booked for a whole week instead of a long weekend. Arrived on the Friday and went to the New Inn to sample the local ales by the open wood fire, before retiring back to Ellis Lodge where we used the kitchenette area for dinner and drinks.

Saturday we walked to Symonds Yat which was about 2 miles, sampling the spectacular views and local wild life. We tracked down the valley to have lunch on the river bank at the Saracens Head, watching the ferryman transport people from bank to bank on the rope ferry. Lunch consisted of a beautiful 10 Oz Black Welsh Ribeye with Potato Wedges and a Beer Battered Haddock, Mushy Peas and Triple Cooked Chips with a couple of ales.

We walked back to Ellis Lodge to work of some of the lovely food we’d had and fired up the wood burning stove for the evening, promptly causing a power nap from all the fresh air and days’ activities. That night we used the double range and cooker to rustle up a roast chicken dinner sourced from the local shops, before retiring to the living room in front of the TV.

Over all we found the property clean with enough facilities to cater for large parties and well finished to a high standard. We especially liked the under floor heating and the wood burning stove was a real treat, giving that lively warm glow.

Defiantly planning to go again and would book for a week, as we feel that we missed out on several of the activities and areas of natural beauty the area has to offer, 5 Stars from us.

“We didn't want to leave!”
Reviewed 19 September 2012 for a stay in July 2012

I recently stayed at Ellis Lodge with my partner and our friends and it was exactly what we were looking for. It's in a great location, you don't feel like you are completely cut off, there are shops and pubs just a short walk away (our favorite pub was the New Inn!) but you are also just across the road from the forest and we found some great walks which start from there. The owners provided us with everything we needed so we felt at home almost instantly. We wanted a base for a week so we could get away from city life and enjoy what the country has to offer and it was exactly that. We had easy access to days out canoeing, mountain biking and country walks. We have already started talking about booking again next year!
