“Wonderful holiday home, right next to the forest!”
Reviewed 15 January 2014 for a stay in June 2013

We spent a week staying at Ellis Lodge last summer and it was more than perfect for us. As a party of 6, the 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms was just superb. It's very difficult finding such a good property which provides 3 bathrooms. A very immaculate and well designed house, there was plenty of room without getting on top of one another. Just across the road is a path leading you in to the forest and in the evening we would walk down and often see Deer roaming about.

It has a couple of pub/restaurants nearby and some takeaways if you'd prefer a night in. All in all a great week was had by all members. Myself and my boyfriend, his parents as well as his brother and his wife.

We are hoping to book Ellis Lodge again this summer and I am very much looking forward to it.

“Excellent accommodation and will visit again”
Reviewed 22 August 2013 for a stay in August 2013

We arrived at the property and the keys were available as advised. On opening the door we were extremely pleased with what we found. Every room was clean and finished to a high standard with a few nice surprises from the log burner, the sky tv available in two rooms through to the bifold doors in the kitchen diner. The small touches were appreciated such as milk in the fridge, toilet rolls in the bathrooms and fresh coffee that lasted us the whole stay. Great location for us with small children with something to do in the not too far locality each day; would recommend Perrygrove for younger children, our six year old loved the miniature village and tree houses. Butterfly park and maze along with the crazy golf kept the children and mum and dad entertained. Would highly recommend and will definitely look to stay again and might even sneak away with some friends.

“Very relaxing with all our needs provided”
Reviewed 9 May 2013 for a stay in May 2013

We spent three wonderfully relaxing nights at Ellis Lodge with our family. The house has everything you could possibly want in a holiday home including a fantastically equipped kitchen which had everything I needed to make a complete roast dinner, from kitchen scales and Yorkshire pudding tin to TWO microwave ovens. We also used the barbecue and the bi fold doors from the dining area make the indoors and outdoors become one. We didn't watch much television but when we did want to see some sport there were two large screens to choose from. Something I was looking for in a holiday property was three double bedrooms and I found this extremely rare but Ellis Lodge had exactly what I wanted even providing en suite bathrooms for all the bedrooms. The digital radios with docking stations, which are in all bedrooms, proved very useful. The area around the property is absolutely full of interesting and beautiful places to visit. I would not hesitate to visit Ellis Lodge again.

“Forest Gem”
Reviewed 9 May 2013 for a stay in May 2013

Accomodation is luxury at its best ....three double bedrooms all with ensuites ( each bedroom has room for a travel cot) all mod cons, heated flooring, large flat screen tv in lounge and kitchen. Nice touches with welcome pack, slippers and fluffy towels. I personally found the mattresses very hard but this was my opinion the others residing didn't have a problem. Outdoor seating areas off the kitchen & lounge are lovely especially with a bit of sun ;)
Location is great for the Forest of Dean and particularly people interested in a walking break. Although we still had a brilliant time, families need to be aware that a lot of the attractions only open at weekends or during half term/summer holidays. Not great on a 4 day break. Also a number are not buggy accessible. Food for thought if you have kiddies under 4. In good weather though the Forest of Dean has some great play areas, and short trails/walks which only cost you parking.
The owners recommended the New Inn to eat which is just down the road and was simply delicious !

“Weekend away in the Forest of Dean”
Reviewed 25 April 2013 for a stay in April 2013

I booked Ellis Lodge for a walking weekend for myself, husband and 2 other couples. The owners responded to my initial query very quickly and continued to answer all my emails very promptly. It was a great house - it worked out at £90 per couple for a 3-night let, which is very good value particularly as all 3 couples were able to enjoy en-suite facilities. There was plenty of space throughout. The kitchen was well-equipped - we cooked every night and were pleased to see that there were sufficient pots, pans and utensils for 6 hungry hikers! We chose the property partly for its location - although on a 'B' road the Forest of Dean immediately on the other side of the road and its possible to walk all day through the woods, along the Wye Valley Way and to Yat Rock without using the car. On the Sunday we walked from the village of Newland (about 3 miles away) in order to access a different section of the Wye and the Offa's Dyke long-distance path. We did run short of hot water on Saturday evening but this was quickly rectified by the owners who switched on the water heating remotely! I think it would be useful to have a book of useful information in the house - this might include practical information on the house and also tourist information for the local area.
