“Lovely little cottage - perfect base for the Forest of Dean”
Reviewed 13 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

Thoroughly enjoyed our 4-day stay at Olive Barn. The cottage was beautifully presented - as soon as we walked in, we knew we'd arrived somewhere special. David was an exceptionally welcoming and helpful host, and the cottage had a cosy old-fashioned charm, while being fully equipped with modern items such as central heating, tv, dvd player, wi-fi and digital radio. The free tea, coffee and chocolates on our arrival were a particularly nice touch.

The location seemed ideal for exploring the Forest of Dean, with virtually all attractions within half an hour's drive. The nearby Italian restaurant was superb, with excellent food and friendly staff. The local fish and chip shop also provided great food in large portions, while the pub just up the road had a warm, cosy atmosphere and a wide range of drinks. The pub also served food, but the midweek menu looked very basic, so we weren't tempted to try any.

Overall, we had an excellent holiday, and would definitely recommend Olive Barn.

“What a little gem!”

We stayed for a week in Olive Barn with our dog and what a wonderful little place it is. David, the owner, made us very welcome indeed. He's a very friendly chap with an easy way about him.

Never having visited the Forest of Dean before we really didn't know what to expect. My first thoughts on driving into Blakeney was that it looked a little down at heel. But the barn soon changed my mind!

The barn is small but perfectly formed and has some lovely decorative touches that make it feel more like a home from than just another holiday rental. The furnishings and fittings are high quality and the kitchen is very well equipped. We cooked our evening meal on a couple of occasions and we wanted for nothing. David had even left teabags, coffee, sugar and a pint of milk. The bed was comfortable and the bedding was lovely and felt new. And as for the shower...well it made me feel like I was on the Starship Enterprise! There are books to read, a digital radio, free wifi and a flat screen TV which we didn't turn on all the time we were there.

There is a shop on site and is really well stocked with all sorts of things. There was even a watch winder for sale in the 'miscellaneous' department! But the local bacon and sausages were exceptionally good. We brought some home with us. The shop had everything we needed. The village also has a pub, The Cock Inn, about a 7 minute walk away and serves very good food Weds - Sat and Sunday lunchtime. Opposite the shop is Dolce Vita, an Italian restaurant serving really good value Italian food. There's also a small beer garden there too.

Blakeney is absolutely ideally situated for exploring the Forest of Dean - there are some amazing walks - but also Gloucester, Chepstow, the Severn and more. Symonds Yat is a 'must see.'

We loved Olive Barn, we loved the Forest and the local people are really friendly.

I highly recommend it.

“Perfect Base For Forest of Dean”
Reviewed 9 July 2015 for a stay in June 2015

We stayed two nights at Olive Barn and was greeted on arrival by David the owner. Very charming and full of information about the area.

Olive Barn is absolutely perfect for a couple to explore the local area. Clean, very well furnished and equipped with a certain style that suited us perfectly. We would not hesitate to recommend Olive Barn! Thanks David for a perfect break.

“Charming bolt hole”
Reviewed 29 June 2015 for a stay in June 2015

We stayed here as a base for Forest of Dean and Brecon Beacon activities. The Cottage was as lovely as the pictures convey. We really felt like we had our own little home from home. Good communication from the owner leading up to our stay and reassuring to have either the owner or his partner close by to welcome us and assist with any problem that might come up. Property maintained in good condition and clean. Slept well in the very comfy bed. Lots of little décor touches that made the place feel modern and quirky, but still intimate and cosy country cottage all at the same time. My only sadness is we didn't arrive to find posh chocs waiting for us as others seem to have done, but everything practical we needed we found provided, just bring food and you are good to go explore. But if you forget food, not a problem, as village shop, Fish and Chip shop and Italian Restaurant all within a few minutes walk.

“Cute cottage, photos don't do it justice”
Reviewed 14 November 2014 for a stay in November 2014

Had a great stay. Cottage was spotless & lovingly decorated. Dave the owner is really friendly & has lots of info on the local area. Lots of little extras to welcome you to the cottage, especially enjoyed the local cider & chocolates. Well placed in the village with an Italian restaurant across the road which served tasty dishes.
