“Great atmosphere, beautiful old inn!”
Reviewed 4 January 2014

Went there with a friend a few weeks back, the waitress was really nice, without me asking she offered me a taste when i asked what kind of ales or stouts do the have on tap. We enjoyed a few pints then decided to try out the soup of the day which was delicious! I'm planning to head back there one of these days to have a full meal!

The circles in front of the fireplace to keep the witches away are just awesome!

Many thanks for taking the time to post your review, I hope you will come back soon to sample more of our ales and perhaps consider coming to one of our Ale and Cider festivals later in the year.

Kind regards

A party of four of us were treated to lunch by one in the party. The cheesy haddock starters were good, though not exceptional; the pear tart starter was less than half eaten because the pastry was too hard to cut; the roast cod loin was mountainous and probably the best meal served; the 'blue steak' turned up 'medium' and the cold meat and cheese platter, though massive was truly disappointing with its 'trendy' baked dried bread served up. Supposedly the olive oil dip was provided to soften the bread but it failed and made the entire dish too difficult to eat and enjoy. The pork ham and leek pie of the day consisted of a piece of gristle, three pieces of meat and little else. In all a disappointment all round.

Visited with my 21 yr old grandaughter for a lunchtime meal. She was impressed with the building, it's history and the delicious food. I chose the beef and Stilton "pie of the day" but was disappointed to find it was minced beef not chunks. Would still go again, it is very special!

Following a stay at Stratford-Upon-Avon, took a detour home to this National Trust 'Public House'. It was a Friday at 13.45 and they had a table available for lunch. The car park was full, as was the Inn, so we were very pleased to find a table. Food very good (liver for me and 'if only I could remember what my wife had'!). Very quaint place and the toilets excellent (always worth checking these out!).

We had a lovely evening meal in this gorgeous old pub. We went on a Wednesday and found that we were right to have reserved a table. It was pretty full. We had a lovely table by the fire. We ordered starters and main courses and were very happy all round. Staff were relaxed, friendly and helpful. Atmosphere exactly what you would expect from such a historic building.
Only regret is that we arrived in the dark and didn't really get to appreciate the beautiful outside of this lovely pub.

This medieval pub was only a 5-10 minute drive from our Manor Farm B & B in Weston Sub-Edge and it did not disappoint. We had dinner on a Thursday night and arrived early at 6:00 PM to assure we secured a table. There were many tables "reserved" so we were glad we arrived early as we did not have a reservation. We would recommend reservations if you desire to have dinner on a Friday or Saturday night. The food was excellent and environment nice and cozy, being what you would expect from a medieval pub. Pricing was reasonable.

Great pub for food and drink. Friendly service, delicious home made food and a unique pub. ( a lovely roaring fire awaited us). A good selection of local produce. Can't sit that many inside so maybe worth booking to avoid disappointment. I would Highly recommend this place.
