“An excellent pub”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2014

Arrived late for our booking, but it was fairly quiet and we were still welcomed. No problems. Food was very good. Lots of choice and specials on the board. Generous portions at reasonable prices. Lovely old pub.

“Excellent local place with very friendly, human service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 May 2014

Kept meaning to try this out since the Grego family took it over. Went last week with a friend and had an excellent evening. Good, well priced food; choice of menu without making it too difficult with lots of different ideas; most impressed with the staff. They really tried to anticipate our needs, were very down to earth, very friendly. Had a good evening, enjoyed my food immensely and would definitely recommend. If you want a special night out we have lots of 'special priced' places but for a good night out, with friends/family/whatever then the Walnut Tree is the place.

“Great local pub, quality food.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 May 2014 via mobile

Decided to eat out and went to The Walnut Tree as local and recently had a delicious lunch here. Wasn't disappointed by the food- superbly cooked and presented and generous portions. Staff friendly and attentive, only negative is the lack of ambience but that is down to the layout of this fine old building so a minor point. I am sure that this pub will go from strength to strength under the new proprietor, it's good to have an alternative to Indian, Chinese and Italian restaurants in Bourne End- good though they are.

“Good but not brilliant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 April 2014

We went here for Sunday lunch. The welcome, ambiance and atmosphere was all very good. The restaurant is tiny but you can eat in the bar too. Menu and prices were good. Generous portions of food were served in an attractive manner - we had Sunday roasts: lamb and beef. Both dishes were marginally over-cooked and the lamb was pretty tough though tasty. There were insufficient "green" vegetables on the plates but plenty of parsnips, potatoes and a massive Yorkshire pudding. These dishes could be improved, especially as there is considerable competition in the area. Other touches which would have been nice - flowers in the ladies loo, a biscuit with coffee and mints when the bill was brought. This pub has vastly improved with more recent new owners but has yet to reach it's full potential which definitely exists.

3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 April 2014 via mobile

Pleasant meal,I ordered steak and extra salad no chips as dieting, same price as those that had chips but they had just as much salad as me!!, bit of a wait for a meal, but it was nice, waitresses could be a bit on the friendlier side,no atmosphere in the dining area, okay for a week night meal though
