The cross keys is a typical village pub, but with great food and lovely surroundings. The food was presented well and really tasty - and the service was great. the bar is buzzy and busy - which makes for a nice pre dinner drink, and the restaurant area is smart and relaxed - overall a great place for a relaxed dinner. Specials are on offer and the main menu is varied and good.

A friend and I stopped for lunch at the Cross Keys during a day trip by train from London to Great Missenden to see the Roald Dahl Museum. Our meal there was very special. The Hake fish (very similar to cod for those of you like myself who do not live anywhere near the ocean--white and flaky meat; no fishy taste) was prepared with the lightest crumb crust on top, seasoned very delicately and perfectly. Everything about this meal--sides and dessert included--was delicious. The setting of the pub itself was clearly very old and therefore interesting in itself, but it has also been beautifully restored and/or maintained. This relaxing, perfect lunch capped a lovely day in a small English village for us.

We booked a table for 22 people, arrived early but that was no problem. They took some time to serve us, my food arriving when some were just finishing. Not good but there were a lot of us and we were not in any hurry. Food was tasty, my only disappointment was the dressing on my salad was so strong with mustard I had to remove as much as I could before I could eat it, and I like mustard.

Arrived at this pub soaked to the bone after a rainy day's walking in the Chilterns. The food was average but tasty, but at least there were plenty of veggie options - bubble and squeak, some kind of roasted pepper strudel, a tasty pizza. Nothing outstanding, but good solid food.

So I must like the Cross Keys - twice in two weeks - once for a girls dinner and then today for a family sunday lunch - and great as usual. Today the Pork sunday roast was lovely, full plate of delicious meat, great veg, scrummy potatoes and crackling…… husband had the always enjoyable scampi and daughter had sausages and mash - lovely.
Great atmosphere as always, brilliant service - really friendly staff.
THis is a great village pub, that keeps the traditions but also serves up to date proper food - a real gem in great missenden - if you are in the area you should make time to visit - lunch, dinner, coffee and cake ( all home-made) a really lovely pub
