Recommended length of visit: 1-2 hours
Owner description: Founded in 2012 by Nick Watson, this microbrewery is based at the heart of the Chiltern Hills and has a real focus on the natural ingredients that go into making fine real ales. This includes very British malted barley farmed on the Icknield series through to contemporary hops sourced from around the world. Whether you enjoy traditional British real ales like our Anniversary Ale or more contemporary and fruitier real ales such as Starry Nights, you’ll find something to suit your taste. Come and 'Taste The Chilterns'. Visit the brewery shop 7 days a week and see straight into the brewery hall, where all our ales are hand made. At our Tasting Station, enjoy an ale flight of 3 Malt Ales with tasting notes, a guided tasting with one of our knowledgeable team or on Sundays enjoy a brewer-led tour around the brewery with the Brewer. Tasting is a personal experience and we encourage you to taste our ales in whatever format works for you, whether it's 3 half pints or pints. It's entirely up to you. A range of options are available.

3 friends took the tour having been impressed by one of Malt's beers (Starry Nights) enjoyed at a local pub a few days earlier.
We continued to be impressed with our reception, the whole tour experience & the samples of the 4 stock beers. Our favourite remained 'Starry Nights'!
Well worth £15!

Went to the Malt with a couple of dedicated beer drinking friends on the brewery tour after finding Starry Night on tap at The squirrel in Penn.
Can only say it was an excellent couple of hours, brewing process was explain in detail with obvious pride in the brewing area having been preceeded by tasting of their brews.

The tour ended with a pint of which ever beer you wanted.

If you enjoy a decent real ale this is the place to visit

Visited here for a drink on a Saturday evening and was surprised how busy it was! My uncle had the 3x half pint tasters and said it was lovely beer. Me and my aunt had local gin and tonics which were delicious! Would recommend a visit :)

I guess this is a micro pub. It has a tasting bar but from what I gather is used by locals as a pub. It’s opening hours are not like pubs though- all ahead of check online to avoid disappointment.
The shop is small but perfectly adequate and it is adjacent to the brewery itself, so you can see the brewing processing plant from the shop. They have a good selection of bitters and a few soft drinks, I think they sell crisps too.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review for us we really appreciate it.

Our brewery shop and tasting bar is open Tuesday and Wednesday from 10am - 5.30pm and Thursday to Saturday from 10am to 7pm to allow customers to pick up ale on their way home from work.

A 3 star review is very unusual and somewhat disappointing. If you would like to email the reasons for your rating to Hello@maltthebrewery.co.uk we would appreciate it as we are always keen to hear visitor feedback.

Best wishes

I originally booked the tour for some friends coming over from overseas but failed to turn up due to unforeseen circumstances. Kudos to Jenny, who was very accommodating and happy to re-arrange. We enjoyed the visit throughout: friendly and casual tasting before and after the tour, the tour itself was very enjoyable and we loved Nic's wit and passion for brew. The beer was magnificent - the Harvest being my favourite! Highly recommendable.
