HillsNek Safaris, Amakhala Game Reserve
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 1 October 2012

My wife and I recently spent two nights at Hillsnek (Mid Sept 2012) and had a fantastic time.

Trevor was incredibly informative and his enthusiasm and passion were contagious. My wife and I got to see more game and wildlife than we have ever seen before and felt incredibly lucky and pampered throughout the drives.

Tamsin and the kitchen staff made sure we were very comfortable and spoilt us no end. The food and fresh drinks were very tasty and the chocolate chip cookies hard to stop eating.

We will highly recommend Hillsnek Safaris to everyone and loved the tented accomodation.

We will back with friends!

We stayed at Hillsnek Safaris for 3 nights in late August 2012. It was the first safari experience for our children (8 and 9) while my husband and I have been on many other safaris in Kenya, Tansania and Botswana.
We loved every single moment at Amakhala and Hillsnek Safaris. At the lodge - only 3 tents, all lovingly renovated with an amazing eye for detail - we instantaneously were made to feel at home by Brent and the wonderful ladies who looked after our every need in a very personable way. Our tent was luxurious, intimate and perfect for us as family, as it had a small annex where the children could play and sleep. We especially enjoyed the outdoor shower, the bathtub, the safari pack for our children (the collected dung is proudly displayed at our home!) and the treats plus bedtime stories for the children. The food was delicious, plentiful and very lovingly presented. But of course we were not only there to enjoy the luxuries of the lodge, but to experience the wildlife, flora & fauna of Amakhala Game Reserve. I can without doubt say that the game drives we had with our guide Mike were the best we have ever experienced, left us in awe at the wealth of information he possesses on all things big or small at Amakhala and planted a wonderful seed with our children, which is love for the bush! By making us aware of not just the big animals and big facts, but paying attention to the entire ecosystem at Amakhala, explaining the wonders of nature in a very accessible way, Mike not just inspired our children but us adults as well. We cannot thank him enough for the well rounded safari experience he gave our entire family and I am sure he would be happy to know that the children have been telling everyone at home about their knowledge on tracking, dung identification, sweet thorn acacia trees and rhino protection.
Brent, Chantelle, your passion is evident in every detail at the lodge, as well as with the people you work with. Thanks for creating such a wonderful place and for sharing it with us! Since the children now caught the "safari bug" it's probably safe to say that we will be back.
Best from Germany,
Alexandra

Dear Alexandra, Ralf, Davidson and Leane,

Thank-you so much for the wonderful review. The positive feedback extended to all staff is so appreciated and re-affirms why we so enjoy hosting and sharing our lodge and reserve with guests like yourselves. Mike thoroughly enjoyed the time spent out in the bush showing all creatures and more, especially with a family with young children that showed a genuine enthusiasm and appreciation for our natural world! Your compliments are what encourages us to make every guests experience the best that we can - thank-you again!! Keep well and we look forward to welcoming the family at Hillsnek again in the near future!

Best Regards,

Brent

From being collected by Trevor at the arrivals area to being taken back there two days later everything was breathtaking and spectacular. Trevor was an unending source of information about the animals, flora and fauna of the reserve and he went out of his way to show us as much as he could (only the lion defeated him). Tamsin managed the front of house with great confidence and her team produced excellent food which was presented as if we were in a First Class hotel. How they did it I don't know. We were spoiled by all of them and I am sure you will be too.

Room Tip: all of the three tented rooms are delightful.

What a fantastic end to our holiday in South Africa. Although we only stayed 2 nights, not a moment was wasted. The hospitality we encountered, from the moment we arrived till the time of our reluctant departure, was outstanding. All the staff made us feel so welcome.
The tented accommodation was excellent, the view perfect and we loved the outside shower.
Be prepared to put on a few pounds as the food is plentiful, of excellent quality and beautifully prepared and presented.
Each of the game drives was brilliant even when it rained. The completely open vehicle we rode in made the experience really exhilarating. Rhynard (?? Sorry) our ranger guide was so enthusiastic, knowledgeable and entertaining, we can't imagine how our experience could have been bettered.
Thanks again Chantelle, Brent and all staff at HillsNek for a most memorable end to our holiday. We will return.

One of the most memorable places I have ever experienced! From the charming wakeup call at 6am bringing us coffee and tea to our tent....to the amazing experience out on the safari sitting and watching the Cheetah right beside our safari vehicle. Literally... right beside us!! Our two rangers did an incredible job of getting us out to see as much as possible in the short time we stayed. All of the staff so very friendly and helpful in any way. Highly recommend to anyone looking.... you will not go wrong here and expect to be treated with warm greetings and outstanding hospitality!!!

We had an absolutely fabulous time at Hillsnek Safari. I went there with four other friends and we stayed for three nights. The service was just impeccable and everyone who works there really went out of their way to make the whole experience perfect for us. They thought of everything, and there is not a thing I would change. We had such an amazing adventure. The game drives were fascinating, and Trevor our ranger was just a fountain of knowledge. Back at the lodge/tents we were made to feel at home and were treated like royalty! And as for the food, it was divine! With me being vegetarian, I was really impressed at the extent to which they catered for my dietary needs. They served some of the best vegetarian dishes that I have EVER tasted! The extra personal touch, treats and surprises really made it such a memorable experience.
Well done Chantelle and Brent! You really know how to do safari in style!
