We spent three days at Bukela in August 2014. This was our first African Safari and it lived up to our hopes and expectations in every possible way. The accommodation was fantastic - beautifully appointed cottages which blend in with the scenery perfectly. All of the staff were very friendly and welcoming and the food was fantastic (top notch breakfasts to return to after an early morning safari). The wildlife guides are very knowledgeable and were fantastic at finding all of the species were were looking for. I can highly recommend Bukela - choose it and you will not be disappointed.

Hi Simon. Wow! Thanks for your glowing review of Bukela, and thanks for choosing to spend your first African safari experience with us. We feel privileged to share our part of the world with passionate travelers.

Every member of the Bukela team plays their role, and for it to all come together perfectly makes us extremely proud! We're so happy you got to experience all that we have to offer. Our talented team of cooks and chefs pride themselves on cooking fabulous meals, and breakfasts are no exception. Nothing like some exciting game viewing in the morning to top if off with a scrumptious breakfast! So glad you loved it all.

It's so great to hear our rangers did a top-notch job and we hope their passion for wildlife has rubbed off on you and you'll soon return for another visit.

We hope to see you again and welcome you back to our beautiful lodge. Best wishes from the Bukela team and the Bailey family.

We are a family of four (two older teenagers) who stayed here for three nights in August. The lodge is luxurious, and Simon and the rest of the staff were very welcoming and friendly. My husband and I stayed in Room1 near the waterhole, which was fantastic to look at the bird life, monkeys and warthogs from the patio. The frogs started croaking in the early evening and carried on till dawn, which we loved, but if you want a quieter night ask to be in one of the other rooms instead. The food here is absolutely delicious and beautifully presented, and in plentiful supply - you will not go hungry! The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and warm (a big consideration in winter).
Our ranger, Jacques, was excellent - friendly, knowledgeable, and great at finding everything we wanted to see, especially the birds for my husband. We saw elephants, rhinos, lions, leopard, buffalo, many kinds of antelope, zebras, giraffes, ostriches, warthogs, and jackal - fantastic! Altogether an amazing experience in a beautiful area, done in luxury. We cannot fault our time here and were just sad it had to come to an end.

Thank you for this great review! Family holidays are very special indeed, and we're so glad we were able to make this one count! Simon heads the team of brilliant staff members, each contributing to ensuring your experience here is nothing short of perfect.

Room One is fabulous, and it's great that managed to do some bird-watching from the comfort of your private suite. Monkeys are some of our frequent visitors at the lodge and we hope they weren't too cheeky! Given the close proximity to the waterhole, the frogs are our most frequent "guests", and falling asleep to the natural sounds of the bush is one of South Africa's true luxuries.

Compliments go to the Chefs for their effortless display of culinary skills, thank you for their praise. We're so glad you enjoyed our taste of South African fare. It sounds as if you saw an abundance of wildlife on your drives, too - how wonderful! Jacques' knowledge and passion ensures a memorable safari experience.

We hope you and your fmaily can return to our piece of paradise one day. Best wishes and safe travels form the Bailey family and the team here at Bukela Game Lodge.

We recently spent two nights at Bukela Lodge at the end of July. From the moment we arrived we were warmly welcomed by Simon, Wella1 and the rest of the team, who were so friendly. Our accommodation was truly luxurious, with a fireplace, underfloor heating and a lovely spa bath in our suite. Our room overlooked a water hole from which we observed a family of warthogs and a black-backed jackal come to drink. On the game drives, with our own ranger Jacques, who was very knowledgeable, we managed to see all of the big five and many other interesting animals, including a bush pig, which is apparently quite unusual during the day as these animals are nocturnal. Jacques went the extra mile to make us comfortable on these trips, even down to providing a hot water bottle and blanket for us to stave off the cold air. We were even lucky enough to see a lion kill (or bamba as the rangers called it).
As we were the only guests at Bukela that weekend, Simon arranged for private dining in our room the first evening. They set up a table in front of the fireplace, with candlelight - very romantic. The food was superb. This was altogether a fabulous experience and great value for money. I would not hesitate to recommend to friends and family and hope to return again.

WOW! Thanks for this great feedback. We can't tell you how pleased we are that your stay was nothing short of fabulous. Simon and his team have an incredible knack of making guests feel right at home upon arrival.

As you may already know, our Eastern Cape winters can be a bit chilly, so it's great to know that the fireplace and underfloor heating allowed for extra comfort. Watching the animals go by from the luxury of your private suite is something we hope sets Bukela apart from the rest, so it's great to hear you had a few visitors at the waterhole!

Jacques is a dedicated and passionate ranger who works hard to ensure our guests have optimised game viewing so it's fantastic to know you saw the Big 5! What a win! Not many people can say that. A "bamba" is something very rare to witness - we hope you're re-telling that story over and over again!

As for your private dinner, Simon and his team always go above and beyond, so to hear how much you loved it puts a huge smile on our faces. To know that your evening was extra special is reward enough.

As amazing as your time was, we hope you visit again so we can try top it. Perhaps in summer this time? We look forward to it.

Hope to see you soon, from the Bailey family and the team here at Bukela Game Lodge.

Just celebrated our 12th wedding anniversary with a night at Bukela lodge! What a fantastic trip! Simon and his team went out of their way to make our stay very special! Lukanyo our ranger went that extra mile to try and find the cheetah for us - and because we didn't find him we will definitely have to make a return trip soon to remedy that!! Well done guys - your service is outstanding!

Hi Sue, thanks for your lovely review. We're so happy you chose Bukela Game Lodge to celebrate 12 years of marriage - we feel honoured to have hosted you and we hope your time here here was extra special.

We're very lucky to have Lukhanyo on our team of talented rangers. His passion for wildlife is contagious and it's wonderful to hear he made such an impression on you. Pity about the cheetah! They are the more elusive of the animals on the reserve, so let's hold thumbs for next time. We look forward to seeing you back here again in the near future.

Once again, thank you for your kind words and your wonderful praise of both our lodge and Simon and his team. We're very lucky to have such a brilliant team at Bukela Game Lodge, and it's due to all feedback, good and bad, that we're forever working on being the best.

We look forward to seeing you again. Stay well.

Hi Janet. Thanks for your feedback and for taking the time to share your experience with us and other potential travelers.

Bukela Game Lodge is a very special place, and we're lucky enough to be situated amongst the most varied and beautiful flora & fauna in South Africa. Being perched on a small hillside on the Amakhala Game Reserve allows for spectacular views, and we're so pleased you spent some time taking it all in.

It's great to hear that your game drives were exciting and that your family's needs were well-taken care of. Thanks for your recommendation to future travelers too - this is a great way for others to hear about first-hand experiences - we really appreciate it!

We hope to welcome you back in the near future, so until then, stay well.

Warm wishes from the Bailey family and the Bukela team.
