“Fabulous Four Season”
Reviewed 20 January 2012

If you are like me and you only read the first few lines to get a feel for a review then here it is. I am the fussiest person I know and we travelled for 10 days with my children (5 of them aging from 15 to 5) to the resort over New Year (their busiest time) and it was fantastic. There were a couple of really minor points which irritated me but other than that it was perfect.

Now for the details....The room we stayed in was a 3 bedroom garden Villa the layout and design were really good, lots of space and a practical layout. The large 2nd bedroom easily had space for a 3rd bed for my 5 year old. The outdoor showers were a real hit with the kids as was the large plunge pool in the garden.... which was big and very deep and for the small ones more than good enough to play in rather many hotels where they are only just big enough to use for a dip to cool down.

The beach is Beautiful white sand with sun bed well spaced out so that you had lots of privacy and right next to the pool so we could go down to the general area and swap between the sea and the pool without moving sun beds. There are also beds by both of the pools which, whilst they were closer together, are still not overcrowded. There are two pools and the kids one had 2/3 of the edge as a walk in rather than steps which was fantastic. The Bamboo restaurant runs down the side of the pool onto the beach and is great for breakfast and eating during the day... Pool side drinks and ice cream were available all day with people walking about rather than you having to go in search of them...

The food was varied and we didnt feel the like we were stuck in the resort.... We ate in all the restaurants when we were there (3) and they are varied and all have different characteristics. the children made their own pizzas in the Italian, fed the fish in the Main restaurant and played on the beach when we ate in Bamboo.... over the New year there was a fantastic variety of themed evenings, the Indian one being the best, but they worked very well for the children as we could all eat as soon as we got there but we could sit at the table and have a drink after dinner whilst they went off an played on the beach.

They also set up a "Lounge" I am not sure if they do this outside the Xmas season but this was a hit the older children and my husband and I, it was basically an outdoor disco with lazer show on the beach with a separate bar area. We couldnt hear the music from our villa but perhaps it would have affected some of the accommodation.... worth checking.

We had in room dinning on a couple of occasions in the evening and half of the time for breakfast. It was fantastic quality always came in hot cabinets so stayed hot and arrived on time....

5 out of 7 of us used the gym virtually every day and whilst it is quite small it is well equipped and more than adequate to work off the excessive food intake whilst you are there, there is also a lap pool in the gym ...

Two complaints... The buggy service is dire when you are away from your villa, we regularly ordered a buggy to take us back to the room from the restaurants and beach and it would take 20 minutes to arrive and there is no real system for calling one. Also the bike situation, they dont have enough for everyone on the resort and half of the ones they do have are very poor quality, this may not be an issue iof you go outside peak times, so there is a waiting list.... in reality that means when you get a bike and take it to the beach it is likely to get stolen.... we have 7 bikes and 25 incidents of them being taken including my 5 year olds which was really very annoying...

All in all fab place would recommend it to anyone going to Mauritius....

Room Tip: We stayed in 309 but all the rooms looked beautiful...

My wife and I honeymooned here shortly after the resort opened. We were there for a week and absolutely loved it. The attention to detail, fresh flowers and fruit, bicycles to explore, tennis lessons with Karl were all just perfect. A short boat ride over to Ile cerfs was easy to do and so much fun. The restaurants were great...the breakfasts in particular were really delicious.

The private pool in the room was often too cold to get into, but good for a quick refreshing dip. The staffing ratio was really ridiculous...we felt we were waited on hand and foot, but not obtrusively. When we needed something, they showed up quickly. In particular, the privacy was impressive. I would strongly recommend this, and plan to return.

Room Tip: The oceanfront rooms with private pools are like a little slice of heaven.

This is an excellent resort hotel. It pains me to say that we didnt leave the resort for the 10 days we were there - most uncharacteristic of us...but then why would we...

Greeted on arrival by friendly staff (we used a local taxi which seemed more reasonably priced), we were shown to a beautiful room with its own pool, amazing bathroom and very comfy bed. We were supplied with 2 bikes which was fun. on arrival we had a couple of bottles of bubbly bought from duty free - this was almost encouraged by the guy who showed us to our room - so nothing to be shy about and a good saving on the hotel rate!

We used the gym every day which was well stocked with machines and quiet. The golf course is very good - els style with tricky approaches but given the standard of the majority of players - (some may not have played before by the looks of things) - fun for all involved.

Food was excellent - the italien place being my favourite. Breakfast was plentiful and the wine list was well balanced and not over the top. I am normally concerned about half board but there was no need to be...

My wife used the spa - and said it was great - she is a conossuier of such things, whereas i played golf, and sunbathed. The hotel manager was a very nice guy - knowing his brand and treating the guests to a weekly drinks party.

We stayed here a year ago and the property/amenities are WONDERFUL. The staff is super friendly and helpful arranging cars/tours. I loved the plunge pool and the outdoor shower. If you could get a bike they are great.

My only complaint is the food...I really was looking forward to having delicious Indian food while I was in Mauritius and there was a very limited offering and what it was was not good. The other food was just okay(Italian being the best of the 3) and obviously overpriced but hey its the Four Seasons.

All in all i would definitely recommend this hotel

We decided to go to FS Mauritius for the 40th birthday of my partner. Prior to this trip we had stayed in several FS in European cities, but it was our first FS beach resort.

We arrived after a night flight and were immediately taken in charge by a FS attendant at the airport. We were escorted to one of the hotel Land Rover (130 Eur one-way from/to airport), and we were given cold towels and fresh water.

We stayed in garden villa #123. It was very quiet, not windy as ocean / beach villa can be. Rabbits, frogs, beautiful birds, it felt like paradise! We thoroughly enjoyed the plunge pool (warm enough) and terrace. The villa itself is very nice, with large walk-in closet, bathroom amenities/products in large bottles refilled everyday. In fact we did not use the indoor shower nor the bathtub as the outdoor shower was so great. Every day at 4pm some fresh fruits or treats (coconut rocher, orange cake) were delivered. The villa is equipped with a big flat screen TV with DVD player (we borrowed several ones from a large selection available at Karokan), iPod station, internet wifi access (a bit slow / 4000 Rupees for one week notwithstanding number of devices you want to connect – iPhone / iPad / computers / etc.).

The only negative point at check-in was that a rollaway bed was in the villa when we arrived. We are a gay couple, may be they were surprised that two guys would sleep in the same bed, but hey, this is 2011, and I guess they could have checked our profile in their system. It felt quite odd for me to ask to remove the additional bed because yes, we will sleep together and yes we are sure of it.

Pool service is nice but nothing special for a 5-star hotel

The hotel offers several activities:
- great fitness centre
- free shuttle boat to Ile aux Cerfs every hour (beaches are amazing there, you must go!)
- hotel Land Rover at your disposal to visit the island (we went to the Botanical Gardens in Pamplemousse & an old sugar plant. Cost was 7500 Rupees for the whole day. The driver was so nice, taking time to explain many things about nature, social life in Mauritius, etc.)
- of course there is the golf (with two big old turtles at hole #9)
- and the Spa is beautiful but expensive (up to 12.500 Rupees for a 2.5 hours treatment)

We tried all 3 restaurants: Beau Champ (ok, but nothing special), Bamboo (excellent Asian cuisine) and Acquapazza (fantastic Italian dishes, the best of the 3!). We didn’t say anything about the birthday of my partner but they surprised us with a birthday cake at the end of the meal. Thank you again!

Weather in mid-December was ok, not as hot as it was supposed to be but still 28°C, with occasional rain. This was still acceptable as Mauritius suffered from a very dry climate in the past few months and if we want the beautiful gardens to remain lush & green we have to accept this! ;o)

What makes FS Mauritius such a nice place is the staff, they’re always smiling, available to help, enquiring about your day, giving valuable advices to enjoy your holidays in the best possible way.

On the day we left we asked for a late check-out. They offered either a 3pm late check-out free of charge, or a 6pm late check out at 50% of the room price.

For those of you you may hesitate between Mauritius & Maldives, I would say that Maldives is the perfect destination for honeymooners. Mauritius is more a family / friends experience, but we still enjoyed it very much and we are considering to go back! We visited 3-bedroom & 4-bedroom residences, they are fantastic.
