rooms ok staff atrocious.....

1.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 31 Aug 2012
After staying at this hotel for a few nights in May 2012 i was absolutely disgusted with the staff they were rude, arrogant and very unhelpful and if you pay by a credit card watch your bill when you get home as they charge you twice and then play the "No speak English".

Other than that the rooms were ok but when we had a flood in the bathroom at 530am the staff again didnt want to know and no help was offered to us to move rooms even though my wife and i are of the older generation and my wife is disabled. I would definately not stay here again.

I am working in Yasothon over the next few months. I got lost in my hotel room - it was huge, and clean.
The hotel is a massive place for such a small place.
I got lots of sleep and he staff were very nice.
The karaoke at dinner time was a crime against humanity, but thankfully there is a good coffee shop down the street, just ask erception.
Wednesday night they have a night market abut 600m down the road, it is really quite nice and friendly. Not many farangs in Yaso!!!
I am looking forward to going back

Room tip: Get a high floor and you can see the lake

Going to the annual rocket festival? Then this is the only hotel for foreigners to stay at in Yasothon. Few staff speak English yet you can manage to get by. The buffet breakfast mainly caters to Thai people but you can get fried eggs, ham, toast and coffee although its nothing to write home about. But you can get it! Breakfast finishes at 10am - just a little too early for some farang. The dinner menu is a surprise. Quite extensive and offering Thai and International dishes to a good standard, if a little overpriced for a provincial hotel.

Bed large and comfortable, spacious room, and everything worked in the bathroom. All reasonably clean if a little tired. Despite the large room there wasn't much in the way of cupboard space; you're clearly expected to live out of a suitcase here. But if farang and travelling to Yasothon you'll be very grateful for this hotel indeed.

Book early for the rocket festival as this hotel does get booked by contingents of villagers journeying to the city for the festival.

We arrived after an all night bus trip at 6am to be curtly told that check-in was not until 12.00. Yes they may have been full as it was festival time (we had to pay double the normal price for the privellege of staying here) but the vibe we got was "just go away". We had to ask 3 times if we could leave our bags there (a fairly obvious request I would have thought and yes we even said it in our broken Thai). The main english speaking guy wandered off but had to be called back when we wanted to know where we could get a coffee and where to go to see the parade. He eventually decided to tell us they had a coffee shop/restaurant at the hotel. Not a good welcome.
After 12 we returned to check-in and fortunately they seemed to have our paperwork in order (but were reluctant to give us our bag back for some reason). Got into the room. The carpet looked grubby and the bathroom was old and mouldy the rooms have a TV and fridge but that's all and the beds were clean but very firm. We desparately needed a shower, however we discovered there were no towels (after a guy delivered the water they also hadn't put into the room). Went to get some lunch and ask for towels. We were told that they couldn't give us towels as they had no electricity!! We had to insist that we needed them and only then was a phonecall made. When we got back to the room we had 2 bath towels (but no hand towels).
Lunch at the restaurant was ok, nothing special. Interestingly they had a drinks waiter who topped our drinks up once and then seemed to wander off and forget us. We then had to help ourselves, even though when we walked in there seemed to be more waiting staff than patrons (but they all vanished). Breakfast in the restaurant was a reasonable selection (of asian favouites) but the food was all pretty cold.
The next day we needed to ask how we could get to Ubon to get our flight, and were frankly dreading the response. However, today the manager was at the desk who was very friendly, helpful, and spoke fluent english. He helped us to book a taxi for the afternoon, with no dramas. We also asked if we could have late check-out seeing our taxi was not until mid-afternoon, and he happily obliged. The staff at the desk also seemed more helpful as well as the waiters in the restaurant (he was having lunch in there at the same time as us). MORAL; The manager has to be around to get decent service!
My expectations were low and they were fully met.

I just can`t make my mind up about this hotel, i have stayed here a few times due to lack of other hotels in the vacinity, i even got married there a few years ago!

No problem with check in but they demanded an extra 300 baht for an extra bed in the room which turned out to be an old put you up type bed.

The rooms are awful, old and tired, i had i stain on my sheet that was ingrained, the sheets had clearly been cleaned, the same on my next set of sheets but because it looked sterile i put up with it. The tv had a poor reception and was the old box type of tv.

I had the deluxe room at 1,400 baht a night for three people with breakfast which at these prices was a disgrace, i could have got a standard room for 450 baht plus the extra bed.

The breakfast is an absolute disgrace...they put the fried eggs out and let them go cold, the "ham" was swimming in luke warm water...and no bacon in site but the tea and toast was o.k!.......but in fairness if you asked them to cook you some fresh eggs they would but they were also happy to let you eat the stone cold ones.

The restaurant is not geared for westeners but the food was reasonable cooked to order.

I found the laundry very good, same day service and reasonably priced.

The reception organised a pick up truck to take us to the airport due to the volume of luggage and were very helpful....i paid in cash for the stay after my card problems the time before.

This used to be a grand hotel and still has a lot of functions and is clearly at the heart of the community....i always feel very relaxed here and have a soft spot for the place, the night club underneath is good and the hotel is central to the town, however i will be investigating a "new" hotel which i belive has been opened about a year on the outskirts of town, before i book next time....which i am told has a nice pool, lacking at JP

My wife comes from a village about 5 miles from Yasothon. We have stayed at the JP Emerald several times. The last time we stayed we gave them some laundry to do. Our clothes came back a different colour having been washed with clothes who's colours ran. The last time we stopped, we stayed about 10 minutes. Yes 10 minutes!! As soon as we go to the room and I saw how badly stained and dirty the carpet was, I pushed the bed to one side. It could not have been vacumed under neath in years and I say that not lightly!! Years!! I went down stairs and demanded our deposit and left. Its not expensive but the management and staff have no idea how to run an hotel.

Room tip: Stay in another hotel. A new one has opened in thd
