“beautiful gardens and lovely bungalows”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 February 2014

We stayed in one of the Bali style bungalows while exploring Ko Kood for a week. The gardens are beautifully kept, a short walk away from the beach and from the main bar/restaurant. The staff were kind and hardworking and the pool is stunning.Food at the restaurant was lovely but please do venture out for some delicious local food! This is our second time on Ko Kood and we still think it is stunning. Having to stop our moped so that a little family of pigs could cross the road by the temple is one of the loveliest things I have experienced. The outdoor bathrooms are fantastic and we had a pet gecko.
There were only two minor problems - one was with the construction work happening near our bungalow whig was noisy for a few hours each day. and the other issue was that while taking photos of the resort I stood on the edge of one of the wooden platforms that had tables on chairs on top - and one of the planks broke. It was about 5 foot tall and i scraped myself quite badly. The staff were most helpful and I felt it was just bad luck, but I'd be careful of those areas in future.

Koh Kood isn't for everyone - it is a largish island in the Andaman accessible by boat only. The story of the boat ride is a different story all together.

I was collected from the port by the Koh Kood truck. We bounced up and down over the winding mountain roads, stopping for supplies for the restaurant along the way.

When we pulled up to the resort - which was close to pretty much nothing it was paradise. The landscaping was completely stunning. Rolling lawns with flowers, flowering trees and a small but pristine beach. A small pool had a sea view that was also breathtaking.

The reception shares space with the restaurant and bar. This space is a covered pavillion. There is wifi in the pavillion area that when it works is good, strong and free. But this is a relatively remote island so it doesn't always work.

The rooms are individual bunaglows. Mine was very comfortable with a big bed - firm as always in Thailand, a sofa (that could have used new seat covers) and good lighting. There was a TV but it was pretty much useless.

The bathroom was completely outdoor. It was private due to a high stone wall. The sink and toilet where overhung while the shower was more exposed. As it never gets cold on Koh Kood this was a great experience. At first it was a bit odd but I grew to love it.

There was also a nice dressing room area with two identical wardrobes, drawers and dresser top to put your toiletries on. The air con worked well and it was always comfortable.

I had problems with my lock on the second day and they replaced it within 20 minutes. The bunaglow was well serviced and always clean. They supply drinking water which is a good thing as there are no shops near by.

Breakfast was plentiful and changed daily. Lots of fresh fruit was included. The restaurant was great. I ate all Thai so can't comment on their western options but it did feature both. The curries were spicy and nicely prepared. The sunset from the restaurant was one of the most stunning I have ever seen.

The resort loans out kayaks for those so inclined to paddle. They also have a massage hut on the beach. My massage was good but not great. It was, however, reasonably priced.

All in all a good experience.

Please go to other accommodations of the island with more value for money. The professional photo's of this resort are not like reality. Moreover, our son of 5 years old was injured because of the construction stuff under the house (kids can walk under the house and there is a big space with pipe lines, open electricity?lines etc) after one night of sleep, playing outside in the morning around the house. Because of the unsafe situation, we decided to move to another hotel and checked out at 12 am. The manager decided we had to pay for the 2 nights ahead we planned to stay, despite the unsafe situation. Staff in general is great.

Dear Traveler,

Thank you for staying at our place and taking your time to review our property.
We do indeed have great staff, a real asset. So we are happy you mentioned this also.

It is important for us to underscore that there is no unsafe installations or electricity lines that guests can accidently access. You are right that there is a space with TV cables below exactly the House you stayed in. But it is not a place guests would normally see or go and we have not previously had the issue raised by guests. Nevertheless, we welcome the feedback and take this as an opportunity to improve and seal it off.

Overall, we regret that you decided to leave our resort. We find it generally safe and living up to standards. Not least, we put great pride in not manipulating photos of our property into something that it isn’t. In fact, over time we have received great feedback from our guests that they found our place to be even better than what they had come to expect from pictures.

Once again, we would like to thank you for your feedback and sincerely hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay in Thailand.

I would say it's a good family option but far from all other resort or local.

Safe place, beautiful landscape and very nice Bangalow.

The place on itself is located well because of the sea view and the small pretty well maintain beach.
(Very intimate)
There is also a very nice pool.

The restaurant is nice, good and clean but some persons should work in the kitchen instead of serving.
The food is little bit more expensive but there is a price for been in a nice big resort.
The included breakfast buffet is absolutely amazing.

The only sad thing about the restaurant it's , they have no idea how to make good Capucino even with a full automatic machine ?

Has a coffe geek, I did many place on the island to find the best Capucino.
The best place it at Ngamkho resort.
The daughter of Oncle Jo study in Bangkok for many years will she was working in a coffee shop.
The resort should pay here for giving coffee course.

If you are traveling by yourself or if you want to see more of this pretty island than you will realize you are far from everything else, witch can be good thing if you having young kid runing everywhere.

Exploring the island with motorbike it a must and there is other nice beach and restaurant.

If you feel for a little escape one night with your lover, go to the "fisherman hut" The owner play guitar and sign almost every night.
(He is very very good and sign a lot of romantic song)
Good food as well.

Have fun

We stayed a week at the Koh Kood Beach Resort in a Bali house from November 18th until November 25th and we really loved it! Very friendly staff welcomed us with a smile and a welcome drink when we arrived by pick-up truck. The resort is a truly hidden gem lying on the rocky slopes of the north-western part of Koh Kood Island, far away from other large resorts which are mainly located on the south-western part of the island. The palm-trees that overlook Koh Kood Beach Resort, its little beach and the rocky slopes add to the idea that this is a resort that really fits into the pure and natural environment of Koh Kood Island.

The Bali House in which we stayed was very spacious, its rooms neat and tidy and we loved the outdoor-shower experience that we had every morning! The only minor comment we had was that the bed/mattress was quite stiff, but still soft enough to sleep comfortably.

Free of charge use of Water bottles, Coffee/Tea, DVD's, Kayaks and Snorkeling-gear add to the extremely friendly price-quality ratio that this resorts offers. The infinity-pool is great, and so are the spectacular views of the bay (including beautiful sunsets!) from the restaurant. For 400 THB (10 Euro's) we rented a scooter to tour the beautiful and largely unspoilt island of Koh Kood; its villages and waterfalls.

The restaurant offers a great variety of food at amazingly friendly prices (main curry dish for 150-180 THB, about 4 Euro's), while breakfast was included in our room rate. Staff was very helpful, truly friendly and we felt very sorry to leave this beautiful resort already after a week.

--
Our main conclusion: if you plan a stay on Koh Kood Island we can definitely recommend this resort. Be wise and stay at the Koh Kood Beach Resort, you won't be disappointed!

Room Tip: If possible choose a Bali House. The Thai-Twin houses offer less privacy than the Bali Houses do.

Beautifull resort. Located in a beautifull scenery. You should defenately stay in the thai house (shared jacuzzi on the veranda) and ask for getting the one at the front (thai 1 or thai 2). The view is amazing. The staff is verry kind and the food is good to. The beach was very nice an d clean with crystal clear water.

Resort was gorgeous. However, tranquility was ruined by incredibly loud construction from 8am until past 7 (even though they promised it would finish at 5).

It was jack hammering and sawing hear loudly all over the resort with no reprieve.

Dear SarahDavids,

First of all, thank you for staying with us at Koh Kood Beach Resort and for taking your time reviewing our place.

We are very happy that you found our resort gorgeous. Yet very sad you experienced loud construction noise during the day.
We are currently in the process of building five new bungalows and in the planning phase, we took a number of precautions to avoid this affecting our guests.
Amongst others via protection fence and clearly defined working hours, just as the type of bungalow we are constructing does not demand for heavy machinery.
In your case, it seems like the work hours were not uphold. For this we are truly sorry and have taken action.

Our resort is quite spread out over large grounds and hence by far, most of our guests are not disturbed by the construction. We aim it to be and remain like this.

We hope you had a great onwards travel.
