Bann Makok is a really charming getaway, far from the hustle and bustle of the majority
of other Thai destinations. Attention to detail is evident throughout the venue, with subtle charms wherever you look. Excellent staff, like a small friendly family, would definitely return.

Absolutely loved our stay here! Rooms, food, staff - everything was lovely. Only downside is that any other restaurant is a moped ride or a kayak ride away, also the beach is a kayak ride away but that just called for a nice daily small exercise

For me, this is the place of the paradise. May be lost in paradise? Well in the evening, you stay there, enjoy the food and the very friendly service.
What I enjoyed most, is to live like the local people do, on the water, wooden house, open bathroom. This is a nice place to relax, on the sun, on the shadow. We had room 7, it's called the fan room, nevertheless there was a huge airco availalble. However the nights were cool, there was no need of airco. The people lighted up a candle with aroma oil in the evening, so we slept with open windows and had no moscitos. We watched the stars at night, heard the fishes springing - great experience. During the day you take a kajak and row down the canal for about 500m and reach a small beach full of coconut trees. A beach you usually only see on pictures, however there it's real. Water was marvelous, clear and warm. In the eveing we enjoyed swimming in the cooler water of the canal.
To explore the island you can get a driver or hire a motobike. There are interesting fisher villages and spots to visit.
The poeple of Bann Makok are very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: room 7 is not as big as other rooms, however has a separate balcony, fully private

Bann Makok would have to be one of the most unique and pleasant places that I have ever stayed. I really liked the location in the mangrove as is was so quiet and peaceful with none of the 'noise' that comes with a regular hotel or guesthouse. There was some quiet music at meal times but the rest of the place was quiet. The only real noise was that of the passing boats. We were in Room #2 (it was a little cheaper) and it was very pleasant even though we didn't have a place to sit outside. However it's very close to the lounge area which was a good place to relax. It does have a 'dip bath' area off the bathroom and that was a great way to bathe in the afternoon - it would be a bit cool at night. We found the food and drinks reasonable in price and a good variety with a willingness to adapt to food preferences. There are mosquitoes in the evening for about an hour but with prevention they were not a problem. We had more problem with sandflies in the evening on the beach. The beach was quiet and with very few people - lovely fine sand and clear water. Mostly people used the kayaks to get to the beach, some swam but for older 'mamas' like me they were happy to take you by boat and come back and pick up. If you want a place that is close to night life and action this is not for you. It is isolated but that was part of its charm for us. There is a massage service but it seems as with anywhere its the luck of the draw as to how good it is - I have had a lot better. It 's not a place for small children as everything is very open and its built above the water. The staff were very pleasant and accomodating. I could highly recommend Bann Makok for those wanting a quiet retreat from the outside world...........

Room Tip: I think that Rooms 5, 6, 7 & 8 would have to be the prime locations as they all have a verndah a...

Loads of rustic charm with friendly and attentive service. Its location, however, in the forest and mangroves, made it feel claustrophobic and airless, away from the views and breezes of the coast. Room 1 was functional but dark and uninviting, with no views, and a ceiling fan that, annoyingly, even on its highest speed setting, seemed to move no air, as if the blades had no pitch. Rustic also means open to mosquitos, and one night, managing somehow to open a sizeable gap in my mosquito net, I woke to find myself covered in bites. What I enjoyed most during my stay was kayaking to the beach and the open sea, and exploring the island at my leisure on a hired motor scooter.

Room Tip: Room 8 - large, separate, big openings onto good outlook

We stayed in this guest house for 6 nights and I have to say that the staff are truly what make this place so special. They are so genuine, friendly and helpful. Yes, the guest house itself is so pretty and well set up. I loved the dining area and the lounging area. We had a canal view room #6 and it was a beautiful room, large, spacious with high ceilings and a separate living area. The food here is great, a bit pricier than mainland but you have to remember Koh Kood is a more remote island. They do offer happy hour every day 2 for 1 drinks so take advantage of that! :) There is a small beach you can kayak to just down the river, it is very pretty, it only lacks some beach chairs but the water is warm and clear. If you like going out at night then this place is not for you, they are quite remote and nothing is nearby to walk to. The island itself is beautiful and still relatively quiet and unspoiled. We rented scooters right from the staff and biking around the island was such a pleasure and so beautiful...and there was hardly a car or scooter that passed you. We loved visiting the two fishing villages that are on the island. If you are up for total r&r then this is a good place to do it. The only "negative" comment that I have is the guesthouse is eco friendly which is great but the a/c is only on from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. I found it being so hot and when coming home from scootering or to the beach late afternoon it would be nice to cool off and have the air con back on a bit earlier, other guests felt the same way.
Even though I loved this guesthouse I did think it was priced too high.
Pangrum is the new manager and I found her delightful, friendly, speaks excellent English and we enjoyed our talks with her.

While reading all the reviews of Bann Makok, I made up my mind that this was a special place; how could you go wrong when so many people were so positively effusive ? From the moment I arrived, I quickly realized that this place was far better than what I thought it was going it be.Pricey, but worth every Satang as you feel you get a very fair bargain and the staff go all out to make it worth your money-from the food to the rooms and the hospitality especially. The location on the mangrove swamps, the deep silence, the helpful, kind and happy staff, and the enchanting decor. all ensure a truly memorable stay at Bann Makok. You can either kayak down to the beautiful stretch of tree-lined beach (5 mins) or swim down leisurely(25 mins). The included breakfast is hearty and tasty and the rest of the food comes in good quantities. The seafood grill for 2 is excellent if you want to treat yourself to a feast! You WILL feel a surprising amount of sadness when you leave, because the opportuity to relax and unwind in such a fashion is almost extinct in the hotel industry.

Room Tip: All the rooms are beautifully done, (no bland hotel uniformity visible!) though rooms 5-8 face the...
