this is the perfect hidaway, just a small hotel run by two sisters, all the accomodation is in bungalows overlooking the sea, there are no local bars or resorts, this is 'get away from it all heaven', you need to book well in advance as they only have about 20 rooms, there is no pool but a wonderful beach which stretches for miles with very few people on it.
Food is wonderful and they will cook you whatever you want.
the island has not been developed but it will be in the future.

We loved our 3 days here staying in one of the Shantaa suites down by the private beach. They come with their own terraces, outdoor bathrooms and beautiful views over the sea. We had one small problem with our room on the first night and the second night we were whisked away to another suite.

Great grounds, great food and lovely welcoming staff.

My girlfriend and I got in engaged at Shantaa and the hotel manager without asking organised us a romantic dinner the next day with a complimentary bottle of wine.

Their Thai and Oil massages are also fantastic.

Room Tip: Avoid suite 5, the other 4 are great.

We stayed 4 nights at Shantaa resort in december 2010. The bungalows is very nice and clean and with a lovely view on the ocean. The staff on the resort is just perfect! The food on the resort is one of the best in whole Thailand! The island is beautiful with so little tourist! The beaches is one of the best in Thailand! The resort has nice beach but we also rent vespa and took a ride 10 minutes south of the island to even more beautiful beaches. A perfect place to relax, eat good food and to visit beautiful beaches with crystal clear blue water! We hope to come back one day!

To all people working at Shantaa resort:

Thank you for a lovely stay!

Peter and Anna from Sweden

Shantaa, true to is meaning, tranquility.
We were there 3D2N and it was truely relaxing.
The staffs were friendly and helpful. Although the beach was small but we had it to ourself. Shantaa only have 15 "rooms" therefore no need to share the beach with a lot of people.
We stayed in the Shantaa Sweet. The decoration , the bed, the bathtub were amazing. And not forgetting the bean chair on the balcony with beautiful sea view.
We tried the fresh seafood and it was cooked perfectly and the taste was superb.
I will definitely be there again.

We hadn't planned on staying at Shantaa, but after a poor experience at a much cheaper resort on Koh Kood we decided to move here. Not wanting to risk another bad experience we decided to go with TripAdvisor's top recommendation and we certainly were not disappointed. Shantaa is an immaculate little resort, and a good value for the amount of work that goes into keeping the service and the grounds at a top-notch level.

We arrived early, around 9:30, but only had to wait twenty minutes for our room even though the usual check-in time is 12:00. We were served a welcome drink and then enjoyed some of the food a the restaurant while we waited.

The resort has a well-maintained fleet of motorbikes for rent (400 baht for 24 hours). We took advantage of this and had a great time exploring the island. We visited the fisherman's village and both waterfalls. The larger of the waterfalls is especially worthwhile because, if you're willing to make your way over some some slippery rocks, you can swim in the pool at the base of the falls which was great fun. We also checked out some of the other resorts on the island and were pleased that Shantaa seems to be one of the nicest, but certainly not the most expensive.

The beach at Shantaa is not the best on the island. I suspect the sand is not native to the island but rather shipped from elsewhere and deposited--it's too coarse and grainy. The best beach we found was at Peter Pan Resort--very white, fine sand like you would expect. We had lunch at their restaurant (which wasn't nearly as good as Shantaa's food) and they didn't seem to mind that we stuck around to enjoy their beach for a few hours.

There were just a few minor niggling complaints:
- They don't allow you to run the air con in your room during the day. Their website says it's because there is only a limited amount of electricity on the island. However, other resorts have 24-hour air con, so I have to wonder why Shantaa can not. At any rate, it would have been nice to shower and have a refreshing afternoon nap but with the ocean breeze the temperature was never unbearable, so not a big deal.
- Our shower could only produce hot or cold water, but not warm. When we brought it to their attention they promptly came to look at it but weren't able to solve the problem. Again, not a huge deal.

Overall, we had a great stay at Shantaa and if we go back to Koh Kood we will not hesitate to stay there again!

Room Tip: Villa 10 is closest to the restaurant and beech.

I don't often give five stars to hotels - I am picky. While this hotel wasn't perfect, it came darn close....Definitely delivered a "near-perfect" tropical experience in the upscale category.

PROS:
1) We stayed in one of the "Sweet" rooms. The room is chic and comfortable; nice bed; outdoor "garden" bathroom which will please most people (I have lived in the tropics and Asia for close to two decades and am a bit jaded; the "outdoor" bathroom thing doesn't thrill me anymore....).
2) Location. the hotel is constructed on a slight hill, above a rocky coastline. Views are fantastic. They have retained the coconut grove and integrated a garden with it. From your room, you view gardens and the beautiful bay beyond. Just to the left of the hotel is a fantastic, nearly pristine, long beach which is wonderful for swimming.
3) Restaurant. The menu is quite expansive, the food good and not outrageously-priced, and the atmosphere of the restaurant very nice.
4) Breakfast. The included breakfast is generous, and there is a big variety to choose from.
5) Service. The service blew me away, especially considering that most of the workers are local and not "professionally trained." Genuinely friendly, helpful and efficient. Five stars!

CONS:
1) The hotel is not cheap. I think it is a bit overpriced, but am willing to swallow this pill given that it is so well run.
2) No swimming pool. I know that there are water and energy resource issues on the island....Sorry, I am selfish when on holiday and love pools....
3) The room could use some kind of chair/desk for sitting during the day. The furniture is not well set up to inhabit the room during the day.

VERDICT:
If you are looking for an upscale experience on a beautiful, relatively undeveloped island, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Shantaa Koh Kood!

We spent 10 days at Shantaa in April this year.
We were looking for a desert island experience but without having to rough it. Shantaa was the perfect place - you can believe the reviews. It's so relaxing, as soon as you walk in, the vibe is just so chilled out. The resort is tasteful, simple and clean.
We stayed in both the Villa and the Sweet - both were great but it is worth spending the extra money and opting for the Sweet - although it is no bigger, it is nicer, and has a hottub in the garden.
Two highlights of the trip were the staff and the food. Staff were unobtrusive, friendly and helpful - perfect. And the food... we worked our way through the entire menu, then on the last night had a 'greatest hits feast'. You can order fresh seafood in advance - the crabs and the whole fish, steamed with chilli and lime were probably our favourites.
We spent most days exploring the island by kayak which was fun and good exercise. There are some beautiful waterfalls nearby which the staff told us about.
The one slight letdown was the snorkelling trip - it was good to see the area a bit, but the underwater life just wasn't that impressive, and there were big groups from Koh Chang also visiting the same areas.
All in all, we had an amazing time and didn't want to leave. We've already recommended Shantaa to two groups of friends who are planning trips there.

Room Tip: Go for the Sweet
