After seven days at Shantaa we were sad to leave and will certainly go back. The place runs like clockwork and although this is seemingly effortless, someone must be working very hard at it. The staff are lovely but never impose.
We stayed in a Sweet which stands on a slope overlooking the gardens and sea but close to both the beach and the dining room. We were able lounge on our deck or close the curtains and have complete privacy. The outside bathroom is spacious and attractive. The Sweet had excellent internet reception.
The food was excellent, with generous portions and a wide menu with helpful descriptions of the dishes.
There were plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas by the beach and snorkelling equipment and children's toys available at the little beach bar. We took a kayak out around the bay into the canal and were delighted to see kingfishers flying up as we drifted past.
The local pier closeby is fascinating to watch with fishing boats coming in and out, the occasional dive boat dropping in and the ferry arriving every day as well as boats transporting gas bottles and coconuts and the island's recycling! Just the other side of the pier is a long sandy beach which is great for swimming and there are interesting rocks for snorkelling.
Altogether a wonderful relaxing place which we loved.
