Wild Tusker Lodge was an eye opener: Luxury amidst wild life all around you. Dinner had never been so exciting which we were having at the Restaurant Deck n suddenly we see a herd of app. 15 deers watching us from across the fence, barely few hundred meters away, the Corbett Park. Early morning you get up to the sweet chirping of birds n when u step out u can see so many different varieties of birds flying / perched all over with lush green surroundings and an amazing hill background. Ideal place for true nature lovers and wild life enthusiasts.

This was my 1st visit to Wild Tusker Lodge made a trip to the property earlier this year and was very impressed by the five star like facilities in a jungle. The lodges provide a great view of the forest and the sprawling verandahs are a treat to sit and enjoy the out doors.
The naturalist was a great guide and made sure we saw a tiger.

Wild Tusker Lodge is a well thought-through, and beautiful accommodation that offers a wonderful jungle experience.

The details gone into ones comfort and yet keeping a jungle feel by maintaining a rustic appeal is brilliant. The elephant grass, wild shrubs and trees at the lodge add to the entire jungle experience. The machaan overlooking the forest offers a view of the 'shepherd' stream and buffer area of the forest and gives one an opportunity to view local wildlife.

The enthusiastic, well trained and interactive naturalists keep you thoroughly involved and constantly educated of the surroundings whilst you look for the tiger and discover various surprising aspects of the forest.

The warm, courteous staff and a hospitable General Manager ensure the stay is comfortable and special. If it’s Corbett National Park you’re visiting, Wild Tusker Lodge is the ultimate abode.

Mohd Arif and friends.

visited this property - end of December, 2012 for a new year holiday (3N/4D) with family and friends.
We were a group of 4 couples and kids. Looking at the pictures and the website of the resort, we were full of expectations and hope..

Short review: to borrow from another reviewer, that I agree with - "Beautiful Property, ruined by bad management"..

If you have time on you and would like a detailed review, read on..

As I mentioned, we went there for our New Year's holiday and being the kind of busy ppl we are, we wanted an offbeat location, like we always do for our holiday. So main Corbett for us was ruled out. We had a choice between another resort at Marchula and Wild Tusker Lodge - both situated in the forest buffer belts. We finally decided upon this one.

We travelled by train till Ramnagar and from there took Innovas to reach the resort. As they claim on their website, the last leg of the journey to reach the place, is to be covered only in a 4 x 4 coz the way is uphill and a dirt-road, full of stones n pot holes.. In name of 4x4, they had an excuse of two Gypsies which were completely run down and ancient.

When we reached the resort, we were delighted by the Staff we met there and the cleanliness of the cottages. In hindsight, I know, looks can be deceptive.

Resort Location - Good. Though its too small to be called a Resort, I would stick with it for convenience of it. There are no open grounds / no activities to be done in -house. Even the jungle views are not aplenty from the property.

For meals - well the lesser said the better. The only meal that we enjoyed there, was the breakfast on our day of arrival. After that the meal quality (taste as well as variety kept going downhill). On two occassions - snacks for one evening and lunch for another day, we took over the kitchen and prepared food for ourselves. While we did this, the Estate Manager (Mahesh) expected us to cook more qty so the same could be served to the other guests as well.. Yeah.. even we thought so, what the hell.. which ofcourse we did not.

For Service - At the start, the service was good. There is a guy named - Basant who is a master of all. Cook, Server, Guide - everything. He was helpful, jolly and good at his work. Two other service guys - Mukesh & Naresh- were good too.

Cleanliness - Property is nice, well maintained. the location is good. away from the hustle bustle, extrremely quiet. The cottage was clean on our arrival, cleaned only on Day 2 and then rest of the days conveniently forgotten.

Supervision & Management - This man - Mahesh, who calls himself an ex-serviceman and the estate manager is a complete failure at his job. He is extremely arrogant and interferring guy. He will be hovering around you/r group, when you are enjoying your eve around bonfire. not in a service-guy manner, but more aiming towards being invited to join in. This, we found wierd. this guy completely ruined our holiday. He picked up a fight with our group on the New Year;s eve, yes.. thats what he did. This is beyond imagation and the worst nightmare. The resort manager picking up a fight with his guests and shouting, screaming and abusing on top of his lungs - coz he was drunk and high.

We left the place highly disappointed and dissatisfied.
Wish the owners would pay attention to how their place and property is being run and damaged..

Wild Tusker Lodge is a beautiful property with good, clean, well maintained rooms & excellent food, but was marred by bad management to quite an extent. The manager Mahesh is particularly a very nosy staff member who proved to be the biggest irritant in the trip. For starters, while booking our cottage we were not specefically told that the cottage had no electricity & hot water supply. Once we checked in the rooms, and got comfortable, we came to know of the same. All our requests of providing heaters and hot water in the cottage fell on deaf ears. In fact we had least electricity supply for major portion of the day with just one candle to look in the dark. It was only after repeated yelling on the staff that we finally managed to get electricity & heaters on the last day of our trip. To top it Mahesh was an extremely nosy & over friendly person who would not respect the privacy of his guests, and constantly hinted at partying with our group, which we were not comfortable with. To our rescue came the lovely food of the resort accompanied by extremely good service of a staff member named Basant. Although we managed to get him on the last day of our trip, he made up for all the sour expreience. All in all, its a peaceful place in wilderness only if you can bear with the over indulgent manager.

I had been to this resort earlier as well and its truly a treat for people looking to stay in true wilderness and peace. The lodge offers a unique opportunity to authentically connect with nature and explore the wilderness.

The service of the staff and their attitude is really good and the cottages are good too.

Location and the resort is surrounded by thick forest on all sides and one can see variety of wildlife in the premises of lodge itself. A nature walk around in morning is amazing.

Last half a km of road to resort to be motored only in a 4x4 vehicle. So, it is advised that these last 400 m to the lodge should be climbed on foot or in a 4x4 vehicle which is made available to the guests. Adequate arrangements are made to park vehicles and for porters to carry luggage.

We were planing for corbett and got so confused in choosing the resort because we dnt want to stay in the typical corporate resorts situated in numbers in one line in dhikula in ramnagar. Luckily we find wild tusker lodge with the help of trip advisor and feels lucky for making the right decision of choosing WTL We stayed at WTL for 2 nights and it was a wonderful jungle experience. WTL is situated in village mohan 24 kms from ramnagar , away from cluster of resorts situated in ramnagar. you have to park your vehicle 1/2 kms before the lodge as the last ½ km can be reached only by 4x4 which the lodge guys arrange in their vehicle. Awesome location and the resort is surrounded by thick forest on all sides and one can see variety of birds and small animals in the premises of lodge itself..One can walk around the lodge with the help of well trained guide Mr. Gurprit available at the lodge. It was very well maintained and the food was so good that you can eat double of your hunger. Staff was very carrying. The way to resort is wonderful. We had a true holiday with jungle feeling. The General Manager ( Mr. Mahesh ) is very helpful n gr8 person. Hope to Visit WTL soon :-))

Room Tip: Individual Cottages are better than duplex bulding.

We alighted at Ramnagar station at 9.00 pm, hungry and tired from a morning flight from Hyderabad to Delhi and a 5 hour train ride. After an initial hiccup with a technical problem with the jeep, we started off into the unknown. Passing through the multitude of resorts which line Ramnagar road, I was relieved that we weren’t going to be part of this madding crowd.
Wild Tusker Lodge is near Bhakrakot village, about 23 km from Ramnagar. The last ½ km can be reached only by 4x4 and at that time of the night we really felt that we could be mauled by a tiger at any moment. Which obviously added to the excitement and that’s what were we in Corbett for-wildlife encounters & fishing!!
What a little gem Wildtusker turned out to be. It’s surrounded by thick forest on 2 sides and there’s only a semblance of a fence on one side. The alarm calls at night seem like they are coming from right behind your cottage. There’s no electricity, only a generator that works through the evening and night, & some solar powered electricity. We stayed for 4 nights and enjoyed every moment.
The proprietors of the lodge have their hearts in the right place. They are very clear that they only want to cater to people who are making the journey for a peaceful holiday with jungle activities and not the typical ‘weekend break’ types. There is no swimming pool or spa or folk dances. One can take an exciting jungle trek with Mr Satyapal the naturalist who is interesting & very knowledgeable, & the birding in the Bhakrakot range is very rewarding-supposed to be one of the best places to see exotic & rare birds. The lodge is at a strategic point for anyone who wants to do angling and safari in the Dhikala area. Bijrani requires a ½ hr drive.
The food is delicious and wholesome, and service is exceptional. For example, when we came back after spending a night in Dhikala, they had beautifully decorated the rooms (we were a group of 12)with flowers etc. My neice had left her wallet behind (she wasn’t sure if she’d lost it in Dhikala) with Rs 3000+ in it, and they just kept it on the bed as part of the decorations, money intact!!
Only thing they need to improve on is the coordination between the management at the lodge & the marketing guys sitting in Delhi. Though ours was a large group (12 people) with quite a bit of intricate planning, there were some hiccups before we sorted out the bookings for Dhikala, fishing, transfers, etc.

Room Tip: all are good but maybe the ones nearer to the dining hall are better placed

A visit to the Wild-Tusker Lodge would be a rare opportunity for wildlife lovers and adventurers to romance the ethereal world of Jim Corbett. Wild Tusker Lodge is unlike other luxury resorts which dot the eastern boundary of the park. It is rather a deluxe jungle lodge similar to the ‘daak-bungalows’ of the British era. The place promises an exclusive tete-a-tete with the wilderness and of being amidst nature in all its glory. ... more   less
