“Still Undiscovered”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 January 2013

I live 10 minutes from Cattana Wetlands and come here every so often for a walk as a form of exercise. It is quite clean and very well maintained and there is always something that catches your eye. There is also a variety of butterflies and beautiful bird life as well beautiful water lilies especially in the winter months. The nature walk is very good either on bare ground, the pavement or board walk so you get a good work out. It has all the amenities including toilets, sitting bench and BBQ areas needed to cater for everyone who visits so quite welcoming that way. The good thing about this wetlands when you visit is that you are bound to see someone or no one while walking or jogging at any one time.Still undiscovered but well worth a visit.

“On my way back to Cairns”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 September 2012

On the way back to Cairns I stop at Cattana Wetlands near Yorkey's Knob. I spot some green pygmy-geese from the hide (another new species). On leaving I spot metallic starlings and a yellow-bellied sunbird near the entrance. In town a huge flock of rainbow bee-eaters settle down for the night. Pied imperial-pigeons (my favourite bird) fly from tree to tree

“Worth a visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 June 2012

Like previous reviewers have said - early morning or late afternoon is best. Plenty of bird life and butterflies and certainly the hint of crocodiles. Beautiful piece of 'quietness' just off the highway - great for photography or simply going for a peaceful hike. Toilets and BBQ areas provided - plenty of different walking trails. No dogs allowed. Cover up for mozzies. I only had an hour and wasn't enough time to explore thoroughly.

Not too big, not too small. Easy access and good starting place for budding ornithologists!

“Are you kidding?”

'closed due to flooding' was the sign on the gates. It's a wet land, it's supposed to be wet.
